What core competencies did you demonstrate with the Connecting Media and Psychological Disorder Mind Map Assignment?
I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way. By choosing the film Nuremberg, and creating a mind map displaying how the events that took place can be understood and analyzed through 3 different psychological perspectives, I was able to share my understanding of the topic clearly. The mind map I produced was organized yet detailed making sure to include necessary details to explain each of the perspectives.
I can develop a body of creative work over time. Creating the Nuremberg mind map required me to display the information I gathered in a simple and easy-to-understand way. The mind map is categorized into boxes to clearly show the different perspectives and answer the questions asked. The background of the mind map is on theme and includes a picture of the chosen media source to help with understanding.
I can analyze evidence to make judgments. I examined the film to get a clear understanding of different factors that were shown that tie into the different psychological perspectives. Using evidence from the film and my previous knowledge about psychology perspectives, I was able to clearly state 3 different psychological perspectives that strongly connected to Nuremberg.
The solid red parabola represents the parent function, with no transformations applied, meaning the vertex is (0,0).
The solid blue parabola has been transformed by the values a=1, h=0, and k=5. The coefficient a=1 means the parabola opens upwards and has not been stretched or compressed, while h=0 means that the parabola has not been shifted left or right, the axis of symmetry remains 0, and k=5 means it has a vertical shift upward of 5. The vertex of this parabola is (0,5).
The solid green parabola has been transformed by the values a=1, h=0, and k=-6. The coefficient a=1 means the parabola opens upwards and has not been stretched or compressed, while h=0 means that the parabola has not been shifted left or right, the axis of symmetry remains 0, and k=-6 means it has a vertical shift down of 6. The vertex of this parabola is (0,-6).
The solid purple parabola has been transformed by the values a=1, h=-7, and k=0. The coefficient a=1 means the parabola opens upwards and has not been stretched or compressed, while h=-7 means that the parabola has been shifted horizontally to the left, the axis of symmetry is -7, and k=0 means the parabola has no vertical shift. The vertex of this parabola is (-7,0).
The solid black parabola has been transformed by the values a=1, h=7, and k=0. The coefficient a=1 means the parabola opens upwards and has not been stretched or compressed, while h=7 means that the parabola has been horizontally shifted to the right, the axis of symmetry is 7, and k=0 means the parabola has no vertical shift. The vertex of this parabola is (7,0).
The dashed red parabola has been transformed by the values a=1/5, h=0, and k=-3. The coefficient a=1/5 means the parabola opens upwards and demonstrates a vertical compression, while h=0 means that the parabola has not been shifted left or right, the axis of symmetry remains 0, and k=-3 means that the parabola has been vertically shifted down by 3 units. The vertex of this parabola is (0,-3).
The dashed green parabola has been transformed by the values a=5, h=12, and k=0. The coefficient a=5 means the parabola opens upwards and has been vertically stretched, while h=12 means that the parabola has been horizontally shifted to the right, the axis of symmetry is 12, and k=0 means that the parabola has no vertical shift. The vertex of this parabola is (12,0).
Communication Core Competency Reflection:
In this assignment, I demonstrated that I can understand and share information in a clear, organized way by individually describing how each parabola’s shape and position were transformed by the values of a, h, and k. I explained how each value affected the parabolas while considering what I was going to convey and to whom I was going to convey it to. Using appropriate mathematical vocabulary and presenting my explanations in a logical order allows my teacher and peers to clearly understand and follow the information I am communicating. This assignment allowed me to strengthen my ability to understand and communicate mathematical concepts through writing.
I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way.
In this assignment, I demonstrated this core competency by researching and learning about various social psychology terms. I took time to understand the concepts, then applied my understanding by creating a Monopoly board with different sections, each representing the different concepts and terms I learned. This Monopoly board also included chance cards, which involved numerous psychology terms and concepts connected to real-life scenarios.
I can develop a body of creative work over time.
For this Monopoly board assignment, I took the time to understand all of the concepts and terms and chose which ones I thought should be displayed. After adding all of the concepts and terms to the board, I added colour to differentiate the different sections. Additionally, I added a key in the corner to show which colour corresponded to which concept.
In my titration lab, I was able to demonstrate the communication core competency, specifically the collaboration portion. The lab required plenty of communication between my partner and me to ensure we could reach our end goal successfully. We divided up a few small responsibilities to do individually after reading over the procedure, and did the rest side by side to ensure the lab was conducted to the best of our abilities. Having a partner allowed me to feel more confident in my work because there was someone else also focusing on the same task at hand. Collaborating was an important part of this lab because if there had been poor communication between my partner and me, there are many things that could have gone wrong. I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share.
State the domain and range of your graph using proper notation.
Domain: x ∈ R Range: y ∈ R
Explain what the domain and range mean in words
Domain refers to all the possible input values we can plug into a function. Domain refers to the x values on a graph.
Range refers to all the possible output values of a function. Range refers to the y values on a graph.
Is your graph a function or not? Explain how you can tell
My graph is a one-to-one function. Using the vertical line test you can confirm that the graph is a function by checking that the vertical line only touches the graph at one point at a time. Using the horizontal line test you can confirm that the graph is a one-to-one function by checking that the horizontal line only touches one point of the graph at a time.
Self-Assessment
Give an example from this assignment where you represented the same mathematical idea in multiple ways.
In this assignment, I represented the same mathematical equation as both a graph and an equation. The graph provides a visual representation of the equation, making it easier to understand, unlike the equation, which may be harder to interpret.
Give an example from this assignment where you used mathematical vocabulary to demonstrate your understanding.
In this assignment, I used mathematical vocabulary such as domain, range, function, and one-to-one function to describe and analyze my graph. These terms helped me clearly explain the details of my graph and demonstrate my understanding.
Give an example from this assignment where you used formatting to share the information in a clear and organized way.
In this assignment, I used headings and bold text to organize my responses and clearly separate my work into different sections. This made the information easier to understand and follow. For example, I used the heading Self-Assessment to show where the topic shifted to a new idea, helping the reader understand the new focus of the section.
When working on this project, I knew the group was working well together when I heard/saw that we had met all the criteria and wrote our script successfully with minimal challenges, we were both fully engaged the entire time and used our time in and out of school to make sure we were ready to present when it was due. We worked well together while writing the script, and collaborated on our ideas to ensure our success.
An example of something I have spent a lot of time learning about is proper French grammar and French vocabulary. In our skit, we had to incorporate the grammar and vocabulary which we had learned in class along with other commonly used French phrases to further enhance our skit. Using what I learned in class I formulated a two-minute-long skit with a partner to showcase my new skills.
A goal I have set for myself moving forward is to procrastinate less with my assignments and studying, I often put off studying or in this case, memorizing my script until the day before it is due which causes a lot of stress for me. Moving forward I would like to work on this and hopefully create less stress for myself.
Some short/long-term goals for myself include completing my assignments a couple of days before they are due, procrastinating less, and sticking to my goals. My plan to achieve these goals starts with small, manageable steps. For example, I’ll aim to finish a few assignments ahead of schedule while working on the remaining ones closer to their due date. To procrastinate less, I can set reminders throughout the day to allocate small chunks of time for working on assignments. This will help spread out my workload. To stick to my goals, they need to be achievable. When setting a goal, I’ll ask myself: “Can I realistically complete this in the time I’ve set?” If not, I will adjust the goal to make it more realistic. Knowing I’m capable of reaching the goal helps me stay motivated.
If the group is not productive during a project, we can start by working on small sections of the project together. This could help spark ideas and inspire each other while also building momentum as we see parts of the project getting completed. Taking these steps can help get the group back on track and moving in the right direction.
Curricular Competencies
1. How did you create or interpret graphs, theoretical or physical models, or diagrams to understand or explain scientific ideas?
In Earth Science 11, we completed a unit focused on weather, specifically clouds and various types of extreme weather. During this unit, we studied numerous diagrams and had the opportunity to collect and analyze data by recording different types of information multiple times a week. We then used this data to create and analyze various graphs. Working with these diagrams and graphs gave me a deeper understanding of the topic.
2. Which physical activities did you engage in and enjoy the most this term?
In Physical Health Education 10, I engaged in multiple physical activities outdoors, such as snowshoeing up to Brockton Point, canoeing at Sasamat Lake, and hiking many different trails in our area. These activities were enjoyable because I saw beautiful views and bonded with my classmates while being active. I was able to work on my physical and mental health on these out trips.
3. How have you grown in your leadership skills this term? When and where do you think you have demonstrated leadership the best?
When the semester started, I only intended to talk to the friends that I had in my class. However, as the term went on, I realized that showing good leadership skills meant that I had to reach out and talk to my other classmates that I didn’t know well. I’ve grown in my leadership skills by initiating conversations with my classmates during group work and trying to spark ideas during projects. I think I demonstrated leadership the best during group projects when I encouraged everyone to contribute and worked to keep the group organized. For example, I encouraged my group members to share their ideas by asking them questions about the topic at hand.
4. How did you explore the diversity of Canadian Identities and perspectives?
As a part of my Echo project, I decided to interview my dad about his journey to Canada from Poland and why he decided to come here for a life filled with more opportunities. I got to learn about the history of Poland from my dad and all the diverse Canadian identities that are a part of my classmates’ families during our class presentations. I heard about many different identities and their unique journeys.
5. How have you begun planning for your career-life pathways? What skills in networking, job-seeking, and employment marketing have you developed?
In Career Life Education 10, I worked on developing my job-seeking and employment-marketing skills by creating a resume and practicing writing a cover letter for a theoretical job position. I also completed an assignment where I looked into a few careers I was interested in pursuing and researched them to see if I thought it was a good match for me. This taught me many important skills when it comes to applying for jobs.
This year I enjoyed exploring the various sciences. I participated in numerous chemistry labs where we observed and performed chemical reactions, I also learned how to calculate the velocity of an object along with many more formulas in physics. In metal class, I learned how to use tools to make rings and more, while in wood class, I created a charcuterie board. My writing skills have improved significantly thanks to English 9, where I learned to analyze images and write poems. I can also speak a few sentences in French as a result of my French class. I’ve delved into world history, learning about the past and how we have evolved. Math has also taught me to solve complex equations and challenge myself every day. All of these experiences have prepared me for my future years at Centennial.
Perplexity was incredibly useful during Social Studies. It allowed me to quickly find information with websites attached so I could verify their reliability, it would provide me with the answers I needed quickly with summaries. Whenever I had trouble understanding something, I could ask Perplexity to simplify and explain it which helped me immensely.
A Useful Educational Video
This video significantly enhanced my understanding of the Voyageurs by providing detailed information along with plenty of visuals. It helped me grasp what their lives were like and why their jobs were so challenging. After watching this video, I felt confident in explaining who the voyageurs were, which I previously struggled with.
A Useful Educational Image
This school year, I took Science 9 Honours and Science 10 Honours. I relied heavily on the periodic table, especially during chemistry and occasionally during physics. I used it so often that without it, I would be lost. The periodic table has been essential in supporting my learning and helping me reach my goals. This is hopefully paving the way for future success.
A Useful Educational Quote
“A little progress each day adds up to big results” – Satya Nani
I chose this quote because I often see classmates who have given up on their studies, which makes me question why I put so much time and effort into my classes. The reason why is because I know all of my hard work will shape my future. Completing a few assignments each week may seem small but it adds up and in the end, will impact my future. This quote reminds me of why I should continue to at least make a little progress even when I’m not feeling motivated because every bit contributes to my future goals.

Is violence justified during a revolution/protest?
A) How did the use of AI assist you in developing this project
I used AI to research historical events and find examples to support my argument. It helped me quickly find information without having to search through tons of links, it gave me the information in a simple paragraph and added the website so I could cite my work and make sure it had accurate information. Using AI saved a lot of time and was very helpful in creating my supporting statements.
B) How did you ensure that the work you created was still your own, rather than just a product of the AI
After receiving the information from AI I would research it like normal to find out more about that example. I would then write it in my own words in a way I can understand whilst providing accurate details I got from AI.
C) Did you agree with the position you had to argue? Why or why not?
Yes, although I don’t think violence is always the answer to problems I believe it is justified during revolutions and/or protests because if it is peaceful not much attention is brought to the problem. There is also a chance that the police/government will end up using violence to clear out the protest. Peaceful protests may be ignored or take a long time to succeed in their goal which is why I think violence is justified during revolutions/protests.
Core Competency Reflection
I use evidence to make judgements or decisions as demonstrated in this project such as when I collected some of the research and decided if I thought that violence was necessary during revolutions or not. After deciding which side I was on, I collected more evidence to support my judgment. All the information I found allowed me to make judgements and decisions for this project.
My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include using AI to quickly access simplified information that is easy for me to understand. When reading through the information AI provided me I check all the websites to see if the source is accurate and reliable. I also search for keywords to help find information that I can use.
