Core Competency Reflection
· Some things I thought about when dividing tasks among my group members was putting people where they want and that they are good at so every one be happy.
· I knew my group is working well together when I heard/saw communication and people geting along with eth other and the project is geting worked on and they are doing good work and makinging it look good.
· When there was disagreement within the group, I found it helpful to find out what the problem was and fix it for every one can get togther and work on the project again.
This year, I have learned how to make a pine wooden shelf in woodwork. I used a bandsaw, table saw, joiner and a sander. I was in the hockey Academy in first semester. In hockey, I learned more skills to improve my skating, stick handling and improved my cardio fitness. In science, I learned about biology and the cell, I learned about the table of elements and other things about chemistry, and I learned about the environment in physics. I also learned that I am smart – if I study I can pass my courses. I just need to focus and work hard.

I can analyze evidence to make judgements. An example of how I demonstrated this core competency was during the “Pop Can Race” in my Science 9 class. This lab was during our Static Electricity unit. We learned that when an object is charged by another object, the electrons move from one object to another through friction. I realized that if I rubbed a balloon on my hair, the electrons would jump from one object to another. The charged balloon allowed us to help drag the pop can around the track. We realized that metal is a good conductor. The key to getting the pop can to move around the race track was that you need objects that have opposite charges to attract each other. We found out very quickly that you could only pull the pop can. You could not push it. The balloon was the positive charge and the pop can was the negative charge. The pop can could also be neutral for this to work. By analyzing the evidence during our experiment, I was able to make judgements as to how this could be done successfully.
