Getting presentations done today was like pulling teeth. Maybe i should have been a dentist?! Tomorrow we will all go.. at lunch if needs be! Get ‘er done. Happy holidays too eh!

T-Chart the Metis list of rights with your own rights…
When the Métis negotiating committee went to Ottawa it carried with it a List of Rights which included the following items:
- That the people have the right to elect their own legislature.
- That the legislature have the power to pass all laws local to the territory.
- That a portion of the public lands be appropriated to the benefit of schools, the building of bridges, roads and public buildings.
- That the English and French languages be common in the legislature and courts and that all public documents and acts of legislature be published in both languages.
- That the judge of the Supreme Court speak the French and English languages.
- That treaties be concluded and ratified between the Dominion Government and the several tribes of Indians in the territory to ensure peace on the frontier.
- That we have fair and full representation in the Canadian parliament.
- That all privileges, customs and usages existing at the time of the transfer be respected.
Political Deadlock
We only got half way through our Tuesday Lecture. Wednesday you will finish with a look at the conferences
-Charlottetown Conference (convinced maritime to join a union)
-Quebec Conference (wrote the Federal / Provincial Powers)
-London Conference (past the BNA Act in England –> Canada is now a country).

As well as working on a geography postcard. You are researching two provinces and writing a postcard from one! post card assignment

Today you had an extension after finishing the above worksheets to create a mini biography on one of the promient politicians. Pick between the 8 of – George Brown, John A Macdonad, AA Dorion, George-Etienne Cartier, Louise-Joseph Papineau, Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine, William Lyon Mackenzie, Robert Baldwin. OR do questions 1 (for and against confederation list). and 3 (report on parliament fire) on page 73.

Responsible Government
Today we looked at a timeline of Responsible Government.
Terms included 1791 Constitutional Act, Reformers, 1837 Rebellions, 1840 Act of Union, Rebellion Losses Bill. People include Baldwin, Lafontaine, Sir Francis Bond-Head, Lord Elgin, Lord Durham. There is handout with a timeline of these on them. See me if you need one.
You did the back side of the sheet i handed out Friday Whole Chapter Summary Questions (new 9)and started a map on Canada. horizonschpt1(1) (map is last page of this worksheet we’re not using) Also we have signed out the textbook “Horizons”.
