In my Holocaust memorial project, I showed strength in Social Awareness and Responsibility, especially through ethical thinking. I chose to focus my memorial on the children of Theresienstadt, a camp where many young lives were taken. I thought about the emotional and ethical impact of their stories. The butterfly in my memorial represents how their dreams and voices were trapped by violence and never had the chance to fully “fly.” By choosing this design, I tried to honor them as human with thoughts, feelings, and hope. One area of strength in this project was my ability to see history from the perspective of others, especially children who lived through the Holocaust. I used their own drawings and poems as a inspiration for the memorial. I also thought carefully about how the memorial would make others feel, especially young people, educators, and families of survivors. I wanted the message to be respectful, meaningful, and emotional, not just informative. One area I’d like to grow in is being more confident with sharing my ideas publicly. I had lots written down, but when it came to the small group presentation, i didn’t present much. In the future, I want to use what I’ve learned from this project to become more active in conversations about history, human rights, and standing up for others in real life but not just in school work. This project reminded me that history is more than just learning facts. It’s about understanding people, making ethical choices, and imrpoving the future.

Cause and consequence
One of the curricular competencies I’ve been developing is understanding case and consequence in historical events. I’ve become stronger at identifying what led to certain historical events and explaining how they created long term r short term impacts. for example, when learning about WW1, I was able to explain how militarism, alliances and nationalism played a role in starting the war, and how those causes impacted on the war. I’m able to break down complex events into smaller events or sections, to understand how each actions create a chained effect and led to the war breakout. However, an area I’m still focusing on is using inquiry to explore deeper consequences. I sometimes just accept the first explanation i find on the internet when I search the topic up without even asking more questions or thinking about other perspectives. To improve, I want to ask more thoughtful questions that challenges myself and to build the habit of wanting to know more and be able to answer with more than just surface-level answers. By strengthening my inquiry skills, I can develop a more complete understanding of the topic and be more familiar with the impacts on those historical events.
Core Competency
Communication is a core competency I’ve worked on throughout the second semester in this class. I think one of my strengths is being able to express my ideas somewhat clearly in writing. I’ve imrpoved at organizing my thoughts, using evidence to support my points and to make my writing more engaging for the readers. In writing assignments, i try my best to address my ideas clearly while providing an in deth explanation to support my ideas. However, one area i want to grow in is my communication during group works or presentations. Sometimes i find it challenging to speak up or clearly share my ieeas when working with a group, especially presentations in front of the class. I also tend to hold back when I disagree in a large group project even when i have a different opinion. To improve, I want to work on being mroe confident in group discussions and avtively contribute ideas and asking quesitons that helps the group moving fowar. I also want to build onto the leader role by practicing my listening skills as to make sure everyone in the group feels heard and collaborate better as a team.
