Using feedback to improve is a skill that is one of my strengths.
During english 12 this semester i was faced with multiple literary paragraphs, from not knowing much about how to write them at the start, to acing the final write we did. I felt very proud of myself, but it wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for my teachers feedback, which pushed me to succeed to my full potential.
Core Competency Reflection
I can identify ways in which my strengths can help me meet challenges, and how my challenges can be opportunities for growth. faced with challenges, the way i like to deal with them is through trial and error. This skill has helped me throughout my entire high school career, and has pushed me to be as best as i can in the classroom.
The game i played and enjoyed the most is mastermind, it is a game about pure guess and check, there is a secret code that you need to crack by using the right colours in the right spots.
Strategies:
there really wasn’t a strategy i used to win the game, for me i was just guessing then going off whether i got 1 right or 3 right, i just put randoms colours in the spaces and check it to see if i got anything right.
Inductive or Deductive?
i think it uses deductive because in order to win you need to get the code right (conclusion). i don’t think the ending is simple, for me its complex so that’s the deductive part for me, while the start isn’t off anything i already know so you’re basically going off of nothing and that’s also a deductive part i found.
Personal Awareness And Responsibility: What do you do to help yourself when you are feeling a bit discouraged about your work?
For me I usually realize that if I do it now, then I wont have to worry about doing it last minute and get stressed. I used this strategy while I was working on the WW1 podcast assignment, we were getting off task and I realized that it is due the next day and that was the only we had to work on it in class, so we got it done in a good amount of time, stress free. By doing that, we got a mark that we were both proud of.
What does it mean to be disciplined in math? How do you show you are disciplined in this course?
For me, being disciplined in this course is not bragging about what mark i got or what i have achieved in this course. i think that being disciplined is a good way to be in this class.
What is your strength in group work? How do you use this to actively contribute during group work activities?
my strengths when working in groups is connecting with my group partners to further our understanding for the unit. i like working in groups because i can ask questions and my group members can tell me what i want to know easily, working in groups helps me understand concepts better.
i connected to core competencies because we were working in a group and we had to figure out how to do a 10 minute podcast that included all of our group members and a guest speaker that can answer a bit of questions about feed .
i think that playing sports is a big part of health and well-being. for me spots calm me down in a way that nothing else can. nutrition plays a role in your performance, if you have good nutrition then you can play to your full ability. i have good nutrition therefore i can play well in all my sports.
Core Competency Reflection
I find it easy to be part of a group.
i think that when i work in groups i get things done to my full ability whereas if i am by myself i can’t focus as well and usually end up getting off task.
I am kind to others, and support others when they need it.
when playing basketball in pe i always try to help people and tell them what they can do better. i am a leader in most activities we do and always give support. i feel like i am a leader in our class.
I demonstrate respectful, inclusive behaviour.
i always try to include everyone in the activities we do and i usually involve everyone. i try my best in everything we do and i am respectful.
there was extra eggs left over so i used it for extra polish on top of the scones
Decide on how and with whom to share prepared food products.
eating these scones with my table group allowed us to decide on what we could’ve done better or what we did that was perfect.
Core Competency Reflection
Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in…
when we are washing and drying our dirty dishes, i can clearly communicate with my table group to figure who is doing what, such as; who is the dish washer? dryer? ect..
While working in the kitchen, I help to build and extend understanding by…
Following each recipe responsibly, it helps me understand how to complete each recipe thoroughly. following each step to make sure i have done everything correct. this also helps me in the future so i can make a recipe again.
The ways I communicate while cooking differ from how I communicate at ____ (soccer/ work/ hockey/ piano lessons/ family events/etc) in these ways:
in the kitchen i communicate in a respectful manner where as at soccer i might be a little more hands on with my communication.
One goal i have for myself going forward is to be able to work with my table group members a little better.
An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is… This was not my idea fully, it was part of a story i heard when i was younger.
Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better are… learning how to go into full detail explaining the noises, feelings, and scenery.
I am so curious about … further writing processes and what steps i take to make a better story.
Goal
An example of where I took a significant risk in the expected process was when… i never really took a risk in this story, but i would like to learn how to improve on that.
I know that my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences, including…so I adjust my actions to…
I chose this core competency because i can understand what to post on social media and what not to post, i always think, “what if my parents saw this, what would they think” and if they wouldn’t like it then i don’t post it.
My values around being safe onlineinform my decisions about… having a clean digital footprint.
I think my experiences as a digital citizen, such as…. influenced my choice of course/hobbies/ teams because…
I chose this core competency because when i want to get a job they can look at my digital footprint, so i must maintain a good reflection online.
Whistler glaciers were formed from the last ice age, this is how they were formed:
As Cretaceous rivers continuously sent granular material into the former ocean, it was deposited yearly to eventually form layers of sedimentary material. Once the sedimentary material was compressed, it created the compound rock formations that now form portions of Whistler Mountain.
2. the lake in Garibaldi Park was formed by lava flows blocking the valley creating a dug out which was filled with water and is now a lake. Glaciers created a dug out in the land which filled up with water and became a lake.
Economic activities:
Glacier mountains in whistler: Skiing and snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, snowmobiling.
Garibaldi provincial park lake: Swimming, ice skating in winter, paddle boarding, canoeing, and hiking around the lake.
How Whistler can make money off these activities:
For swimming, the lake is cold, so you can rent a wet suit which costs $20 an hour.
Skating you can rent out skates because people do not have skates.
For hiking, people might want a guide to help them around and to take them to nice spots that could make money.
These are economic activities because most people come to Whistler, rent a hotel room, buy a ski pass, rent equipment. They go out for meals and spend money in the shops in the village while they are there. Many people rent paddle boards, kayaks and/or canoes to explore the lakes. The lakes are also used for large competitions such as the Tough Mudder which brought about 10,000 people to whistler for the weekend to participate.
2. Climate
Whistler has its cold and snowy weather because it is a part of the coast mountains.
Whistler is extremely high, so it gets cold because when you are at a high altitude the heat must spread out to reach the whole peak, therefore whistler is colder because there is less air pressure.
The average temperature in Whistler’s summer is around 23° Celsius!! As the locals say, “people move here in the winter and stay for the summer.”
In the winter Whistler holds a wine and food festival called Cornucopia.
Whistler holds many mountain biking, trail running, ziplining and archery events almost every year.
Whistler makes approximately $262.3 million per year!!
Whistler also held the Olympics which generated huge money for Whistler and people from all over the world came to watch and now they come back regularly because they loved it so much. The Olympics in total made a whopping CAD$ 1,900,000.
3. Vegetation
1. Variety of trees, including Pine, Cedar, Hemlock, and Evergreen
2. Moss and wildflowers depending on the season
Trees and other plants exist in Whistlers’ forests because the soil is rich in black organic material, extremely high in nutrients. Many different types of plants (like ferns and all kinds of colorful wildflowers) and trees (like spruce, pine, cedar, hemlock, and Evergreen) can grow in this kind of soil.
Economic activities:
One activity that exists because of the vegetation is ziplining. While ziplining, people like to look at the views from the mountaintops, the crystal lakes that look green and sparkle when you look down from the ziplines, and the lush forests. Ziplining is a very profitable business in Whistler. It is also a non-harmful way to use the mature trees to support the ziplines.
Another activity is hiking. Hiking in Whistler provides great exercise due to the changes in terrain – steep mountain inclines can be very challenging. There are great viewpoints along almost every trail in Whistler and if you are lucky, you may see a variety of different wildlife – from bald eagles to black bears.
