Reflection

One project that was challenging for me was the Articulated Critter Project. There were a lot of problems when it came to printing it like the joint didn’t line up and the whole project wasn’t properly aligned. It took a lot of different tries to actually get it to finally work and I had to completely redo my project. I did however enjoy this project because I got to be creative and come up with my own idea to get printed and keep. During this project I learned about how dimensions really matter and how if one little dimension is messed up it can mess up the whole project.

Creative Thinking:

  • I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others. I did this when we and my partner were coming up with ideas for the comic strips. We built off of each others ideas.
  • I can develop a body of creative work over time. The comic strip is an example of this because it is creative work and it took time to complete.

Collaborating:

  • I can work with others to achieve a goal. I showed this with the comic strip because it was a partner project and my partner and I worked together to come up with the idea and the basics of the story to complete the comic strip.
  • I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share. I did this with the comic strip because although we came up with the basic idea together I wrote it out and fine lined it while my partner drew the pictures and colored it.

Critical and Reflective Thinking

Canada’s war declaration on Nazi Germany was important because it showed that they still knew what they had to do but they made the decisions for themselves. The Canadians waited 7 days after France and Great Britain before declaring war on the Nazis. The placement of their declaration proved that they had the power to make their own decisions and do what’s best for them rather than what’s best for Britain. The declaration is also important because that means that Canada saw the Germany as a threat. They believed that France and Britain couldn’t handle it on their own. So, the declaration was important because it says many things about the country of Canada and what they believe in on their own.

I can analyze evidence to make judgements because I don’t just make judgements out of the blue off nothing. I need to have some form of information to base my judgements and decisions on. Sometimes I do make judgements on things out of the blue, but it’s usually based on a gut feeling, so that isn’t really based of nothing. My judgments may be based on a lot of evidence or not a lot of evidence but there is evidence involved with the judgements that I make.

I give, receive, and act on feedback to progress in my goals. I did this while working on the conversation by listening to what my partners had to say and change it based on what we agreed on. We gave feedback on what ideas we had and then created the conversation based on what we said. I can develop a body of creative work over time. The project is an example of this. We used creativity to create the conversation within the class time that we had. I can form new ideas and create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others. I showed this when we created the conversation by using the ideas I had to help create the conversation. I built on the ideas of others by building on the ideas that my partners said.

I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way. I understood and shared information on the conversation in a organized way. We went through the notes to find everything we needed and then shared the information.

I think about what I am going to convey and to whom I will convey it. During this project I thought about the ideas I had for the conversation and I thought about whom I had to convey it to which was my partner.

I work with others to achieve a goal. I did this while working on the conversation. With the completed conversation as the goal I worked with my partner to achieve.

I take on roles and responsibilities in the group; I do my share. I did this by helping write the conversation and helping to type it out. I did my share while doing this project.

I can represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experience. I want to work on being able to connect my learning to the experiences I have. I also want to work on being able to represent it.

This assignment impacted how I have an unconscious bias to things that I don’t even realize. I hadn’t really realized how much my decisions and thoughts are unconsciously biased. For example, I have a peanut allergy so through this assignment I really recognized how much thought goes into the news I try and if I can have them or if I will react to them. This assignment has also revealed to me how many little things my family and I have in common. Sports are a big part of life on one side of my family, and I never really realized how much we have in common when it comes to things sports related. On the other side of my family food and gardening are a big part of life and I never noticed how much we have in common when it comes to that. So really this assignment opened my eyes to the unconscious biases I have and the things that I have in common with my family members. 

Core Competency Reflection

I think my experiences such as playing games with my cousin influenced my choice of sports because he helped me be competitive and want to win. Yes, I would be competitive without him but I get more competitive when we try to one-up each other with our accomplishments.

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in the paragraph because I communicated pretty clearly how the assignment made me notice thigs about myself that I would not have likely noticed without it.

Although I am challenged by a lot of little things, I can get through these challenges by tapping in to my perseverance and slowly but surely make it through all the little things that I find challenging.

I appreciate feedback on everything I ask about and prefer it comes in the form of honest but still kind words. Brutal honesty is sometimes wanted but if its not needed then I don’t really want it.

My Goal

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus I listen to music. My goal is to stop relying on music to help me refocus and try to be able to focus without it because I will not always have access to music.

Public Speaking

I think that being a good public speaker is knowing your audience. If people say something that the audience doesn’t like it’s most likely not going to be a good speech. To be a good audience I think the number one thing is listening. If you don’t listen it’s the extremely disrespectful. The other thing with being a good audience member is having good body language. If the audience is acting like they don’t want to be there then the speaker is not going to try as hard as they can.

One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to talk and give each person in the group a chance to agree or disagree with what we’re doing.

I know the group is working well together when I hear us all agreeing on something and sharing different ideas.

I show that I value feedback from others in my group by listening to it and in some cases using it in projects.

If there is a disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to talk about something else and then go back to what we were disagreeing about and then try to deal with it again.

My goal is to be more clear about who is doing what within the group. I’m doing this by whenever I start a group project going over what needs to be done and then splitting the work.

I think that I used analyzing and applying content by first coming up with our original list for Earth 2 and then after finding out the main points of the Industrial Revolution, changing what I think needed to be changed or go into more detail about what need to be in more detail. I learned that there is a lot more that goes into creating nations and cities than I thought. For past connections I realized that a lot of things would be different if the Industrial Revolution never happened. Kids would start working at a younger age and many things would still be done by hand. I think that in the future things are going to made by hand less and less due to the advances in technology made everyday.

One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is when I have a topic to just say whatever I think would make sense in that situation and don’t have a specific thing to talk about just an area of ideas

I know the group is working well together when I see and hear that we have brainstormed ideas and have written a good amount down on paper.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus I take a second to stop what I was doing and just do something else for a minute or listen to music to just let my thoughts calm down and then I go back to my original task and have a better focus.

One of the ways I ensure that my group is clear on the common purpose is by going around and making sure that everyone is ok with the ideas that have been shared. If they say something else they have this opportunity to say something

My goal is to be more focused on using other peoples feedback in my work. I am working on this when I have an assignment to hand in and I get feedback from a peer. I try to change what I think needs to be changed based on their feedback.
