My Artifact
My Identity poem
Drip, drip, drip.
The faucet drips in the kitchen
It’s so quiet you could hear a pin drop
the racing thoughts stop
Drip, drip, drip.
The feeling of loneliness takes over
The world goes quiet, just for a moment
Overwhelming silence fills the room
The world goes back to the loud, busy city it once was
You can hear slight voices from the tv
And an angry person honking their horn
But what could have changed?
In that one moment of silence
Are you still the same person you once were?
Drip, drip, drip.
The faucet still drips
In one second your life can change
You might not feel it
Everything might look the same
But everything could be different
One minute you’re laughing with your friends
The next you’re shaking uncontrollably,
Hyperventilating but still
A tooth showing grin
Cemented on your face
Drip, drip, drip.
The sound of the dripping faucet
Engraved in my memory
Mocking me wherever I go
Curricular Competencies Reflection
During this task I learned I had to use figures of speech and sound devices to enhance my poem, and let the viewer visualise what was happening without describing it too much. Which was hard trying to tie in figures of speech and sound devices in a way that made sense to me and the reader, and trying to build your poem off of those devices.
Core Competencies Reflection
#ThinkingCC
Ways I formed some ideas for my poem was to read and think about the sound devices and figures of speech and build off of them. Talking to others about their poems and seeing what they wrote about helped me generate ideas about my poem and how I should formate my poem. Also talking daily experiences helped my write my poem. Because it’s an identity poem I focused in on certain memories/experiences which helped me form ideas.
