Reporting Reflection

My Reflection

The Writing Process

When the article is about something as surface level as Halloween costumes, it can be difficult to come up with questions. The quality of these questions came across a bit in the answers as people often only answered the questions at a basic level, but did not elaborate because there was not that much to elaborate on. This was especially the case with the students, but Mr. Rensen and Ms. Chambers seemed to find them quite interesting. It was a good learning experience as I now may have an easier time differentiating between the topics that will give me the best interviews. Cutlines gave me a bit of struggle in the beginning as I had trouble identifying the information to put in the cutline and the information that I shouldn’t put in the cutline. However, by the second article I realized that it is basically about checking off the who, what, where, when, why, and sometimes how. Truth be told, most high school students do not have good grammar. This is why I found it somewhat entertaining to go through my peers’ drafts and edit them, there was always a lot to point out and I allowed myself to pick and tear at most of the mistakes I ran into.

Core Competency Reflection

  • I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is when I wrote cutlines. There is very specific criteria that I realized I had to follow, and it is ultimately what led to me being able to write the best, most straightforward cutlines.
  • Others find my feedback useful because I do not hold back when making suggestions. It can sometimes be hard to hear criticism, but at the end of the day good constructive-criticism can really change someone’s ways.
  • One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is analyzing songs. This is exactly what I did to add additional information to my review of “I Let It In and It Took Everything” by Loathe. I drew connections to what I thought the songs might be about.
  • Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better are doing something production before getting on my homework. I’ve read the Bible and practised Japanese before sitting down and getting to work, and the results are often less distracted and quite a bit more productive.

As an active listener, I notice that I … – This is a prompt I need to work on for the next year, as I am not a super active listener. I enjoy talking a lot and sometimes I need to remember that people also want to talk about themselves. I am very social, but I need to work on having better back and forth conversations with people.
