Reflecting on My First Year

My Grade 9 Year

Overall, this first year of high school went great for me. I achieved my goal of getting A’s in multiple classes. Also, I became the top student in my Science 9 class, which is my proudest achievement this year. A stretch this year is that I’m currently at a B in my PE class, though I plan to put in more effort to excel to an A for the final report card. What made this year enjoyable was that I made new friends and met up with old ones from my middle school; those friends made the year breeze by for me. In conclusion, my first year of high school was excellent because of all the friends I made and the goals I achieved.

My Favourite Website

https://www.chess.com

This is my favourite website because I can use it to play chess and learn how to improve my openings and strategies. Playing chess requires me to think ahead and anticipate my opponent’s moves, thus improving my critical thinking skills. This website allows me to play with my friends without a board and challenge people from all over the world, so it makes for a fun activity to do during lunch with friends while keeping your brain sharp.

My Favourite Video

This Is a Trailer for the Movie I Picked

In my Social Studies 9 class, we were learning about factory workers in the 19th century, so we decided to watch a movie called Oliver Twist. This is my favourite video because the movie showed me the perspective of orphaned children in the 19th century who were taken in by the workhouses to work; text wouldn’t have been able to describe that perspective as well as the movie. This movie was very helpful to watch in social studies because it described the perspective of workhouse children, which is why it is my favourite video.

My Favourite Image

This is my favourite image because it’s an informational poster about Panama that me and my partner made for my Spanish project, where we had to do research and make a poster of a country. While making this poster, we learned many things about Panama, like its climate and culture. In the end, we ended up with a poster that we put much effort into and that we were proud of; thus, this is my favourite image.

My Favourite Quote

“Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary.” -Dead Poets Society, 1989

This is a quote from a movie that I liked and watched in my Language Arts 9 class. For context, it’s said by John Keating, telling his students to live their lives as best they can. This is my favourite quote and is meaningful to me because it’s from a movie I really enjoyed, and it also relates to my learning because this year I learned that I should strive to live my life as best I can by trying and putting in effort in my classes to excel and make good habits.
