Curricular Response:
Building both golf ball tower and egg dropper improved my understanding of scientific method process, by the development of planning, followed by phototyping designs, that needed to be sketched beforehand, and built, then considering it was a suitable model or needed adjustments to be made (inductive learning). As well as observing if all my experiments, if not or did support my hypothesis, and make a reflection upon the results (deductive learning) .
Core Competency Self-Assessment and Creative Thinking:
The scientific method lab that I am most proud of is the gold ball tower, although being ranked low, I was move over impress my accomplish of being able to construct my tower over 3 feet, which I couldn’t think was possible being limited to provided materials such as paper and tape. As well as when constructing it kept having an unsecure connection between the base structure, resulting it to fall constantly, and challenging to fix. The strategy I overcame this, was to put more support connecting base and lengthier tower, which did help in the short-term when further adding height to the tower before it fell again. Working with experiments hands on helps further understand the scientific method through constructing both devices and draw conclusions from observations.
A) I demonstrated that I can create new things when I sketch several phototypes and apply it when constructing them.
B) I demonstrated that I can build on the idea of other when referencing and observing other peoples and what all had in common designs and further extending it, as well as combining my partner’s ideas and till both of us are satisfied.
C) When trying new things, I expect setbacks and failures and use them to develop my ideas. An example of this from the method labs would be the egg drop experiment, which as result failed because of having 0 support on its sides as I was designing a cone shaped structure. I develop my ideas through this by either adding support landing on its sides or simply construct a parachute to decrease the force of it falling.
