Core Competency Reflection

If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to stop what we are all doing and working on so that we are able to have a discussion together and agree upon a common goal.

I know the group is working well together when I hear everyone communicating together and keeping all discussions on the task which we are working on.

One goal I have for myself is to not just work on an assignment during school hours, but also taking extra time after school hours to compete the assignment and communicate with my group members about the work I will be competing while to in person with them.

One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to discuss what we will do before getting into the project. It is also important to communicate during our project and seeing areas which might need extra time on.

I know the group is working well together when I see people on task and hear them communicating. It is very important to communicate during group activities to the group all knows what each person is doing.

When I work collaboratively with people I don’t know well ,I try to briefly get to know them a bit so we are not strangers to each other.

If there is a disagreement between the group, I find it helpful to see both peoples perspective. One person then might understand what the other person is saying and they will agree with them.

One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to, one the first day, have a group meeting and have everyone take a part and do that part, then have a few check-ins with your group to make sure everyone is doing their assigned part.

I know the group is working well together when I hear positive feedback and communication. I feel like this is very important to have in a group activity because hard and unhealthy to work in a toxic environment and it is important to know what other members of your group is feeling and if they have any questions or other things to bring up.

The ways I communicate at school differ from how I communicate at hockey in these ways: usually in hockey you use a more forceful/aggressive tone, were in school you would just talk normally. In school you are more patience with your classmates and in hockey things need to be done in the moment.
