Core Competency Reflection
When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I try to be nice and respectful. Talking to them in respect of there opinions and ideas. Which always turns out with a good friend or a classmate I can ask too.
One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to ask. If I miss hear or forget about something I will always ask. Even if it has already been over, I ask again to make sure they hadn’t changed anything.
This year I enjoyed and am enjoying art and sewing. When I first got the schedule for my grade nine year, I was slightly annoyed that I hadn’t got much that I signed up for. The two were art and sewing. However now as I’m doing projects and activities, I can’t help but want to spend more time on it. I’m glad I was put in these two classes and am enjoying them like id signed up for it.
YouTube may not be the best educational website as students can get quite distracted by the videos, however, it is not just a distraction as many think. There are many good videos like science videos that explain the laws of nature or videos explaining how to design something out of recycled fabric. Not just that but also a variety of music that helps students like me study, relax, but also dance and have fun. And that is why YouTube is a great educational website. 🙂
A Useful Educational Video
I chose this video for multiple reasons. One of the reasons was that it reminded me of when my socials teacher had compared school shootings to revolutions in the past. like the French revolution and the English revolution. one other reason was how grateful students and teachers should be that we do not have to worry much about such things. School shootings can still happen in Canada however, it is a lower chance than in America which I feel like we should always be grateful and happy for.
A Useful Educational IMAGE
I choose the periodic table because we used it quite frequently in Chemistry. I was also always curious what all the symbols and numbers meant on the periodic table, which we got to learn in science. Looking at the elements on the table and drawing Bohr models was honestly not that bad of an experience and I’m glad it aided me throughout chemistry.

I chose this quote because it was a quote that always stuck with me. I tell myself this in many things especially at school because even when people say “everyone makes mistakes” people still judge. So instead of it being a mistake I rather make it a happy accident. An accident made but turned it into something beautiful and happy, even if it’s not the best.

a. Which advertising technique did you choose and how did you use that technique to create your poster? I used the glittering generalities technique. This technique was used in the ad to make it sound more connectable or appealing to the person looking at the ad. Making the person think about how comfy, stylish and cool the product may really be.
b. Explain how and why you chose the colours, words, background, etc. that you used to make your advertisement. I chose these colours not just because they were suggested but because it helps the words pop out, not too much that it would feel awkward but enough to make someone interested and intrigued.
c. What do you think others who aren’t in your class should know about advertising? They should know that lots of words always the best for advertising. Unlike paragraphs or essays it is almost always better to use simple words and photos for advertisement. After all the whole point is to grasp the audience’s attention, not bore them.

This is how I selected images and words to create an impact for my planned audience: When I was coming up with ideas for the ad I tried to think of something many people liked or wanted. And for me I love fashion, but I also like to feel comfortable in my clothes. So, the first thing I thought of was baggy clothing. They are cool, fashionable, and comfy. Not being too tight or showing too much. Being comfortable and still having the looks. For adults, for example parents love wearing something comfortable, and young adults love fashion. So put them together and have something everyone wants.
I used to think that catchy songs and funny ads were the only main strategies about advertising and now I know that there are more than just video ads. Learning lots about all the different strategies in advertisement not just video but also in posters. After learning and going over the strategies, I believe that the ad making project did help. Unlike what I had thought the project made me rethink all of the strategies, helping me understand the way of making persuading ads.
