Textiles Core Competency

This is a navy blue off-the-shoulder hoodie I made. Throughout the process, the core competency I demonstrated was collaboration. My friend was also making a hoodie, and we worked together to guide and support each other. Whenever she faced challenges, I helped her, and vice versa. During this experience, I learned many new skills and would definitely try making another hoodie in the future. I feel that I completed it in a reasonable amount of time and am proud of the final result

Titration Lab 20c Edublog

Curricular Competency Explanation

A titration is a lab technique used to determine the concentration of a substance in a solution. In this lab, we used titrations to find out how much base was needed to neutralize an acid, which was HCl in our lab. To do this, we added a few drops of phenolphthalein, to the acid. The goal was to reach a very light pink colour, that shows for about 30 seconds. We knew the endpoint was close then the pink colour started to last longer. This Is when we started to use the technique of single and half drops, leading us with a more accurate result. After getting a good titration we calculated the Molarity of HCl, which was 0.136M, with an uncertainty of 0.7%.

Core Competency Reflection

I demonstrated communication skills with my partner throughout Lab 20c. We worked together to decide which step each of us would take, and we also discussed where we needed help from one another. A great example I can think of is, when it came to getting the pipette accuracy just right, we agreed that I should do that part of the lab, since I found it easier. While my partner was better at achieving accuracy when it came to the single and half drops. Because of our clear communication, we were able to complete two titrations with an average difference of only 0.01%. Another example, was when determining whether the titration had reached the correct colour. It was really enjoyable watching the bright pink colour change into a faint pink. We both felt a sense of accomplishment when the titration reached the perfect faint pink. Communication was a big factor with each other, that made this lab achievable and accurate.

The Crucible Essay

To Truley understand the characters in the Crucible and the reasons for their behavior, one only has to use Kollberg’s moral perceptions as an explanation to describe in detail their motivations for doing what they do. This essay will look at three different moral perceptions that develop chronologically over time. They are pre-conventional, conventional, and post-conventional. All three motivate people to behave in certain ways. Often, all three or two of the three receptions are factors in behavior. This essay will explain, define, and demonstrate Kollbergs moral perceptions influence on characters.

There are many examples within the English literature that illustrate that there are pre conventional characters in the crucible. To start with Betty Parris is egocentric. Parris said, “will you wake.”  In this situation Betty is more focused on her own safety and avoiding punishment. This is motivated by her own anxiety and instinct for survival. She prioritizes her own safety by avoiding consequences instead of considering the wider consequences of her actions. She lays in bed pretending to be ill so Reverend Parris does not find out the truth. This causes Betty to become self-centered and not consider how her actions might influence her in the future. Moving onto Ann Putnam, she illustrated desperate behavior. Specifically, when Reverend Hale explained to Ann that “It is a formidable sin to conjure up the dead.” Ann Putnam illustrated signs of desperateness because she wanted her daughter to use witchcraft to communicate with her dead children. Her actions were self-interested in wanting to explain her pain and loss. By using her daughter, she ignores the consequences of her behavior, concentrating instead on reliving her own pain and identifying someone or something to blame. Finally, Abaigail Williams is threatening. Abigail shows this when mentioning to Mary Warrener “I can make you wish you had never see the sun go down.” Abigail realizes that if any of the girls speak up and expose the truth, she might face consequences for her involvement in the false claims. Abigail intimidates Mary to prevent her from revealing the truth, using fear tactics to assert her dominance. This situation shows that Abigail is a controlling and intimidating character as she attempts to safeguard herself and her standing in the group so that she avoids all punishment. To conclude there are many pre conventional characters in the crucible including Betty Parris, Ann Putnam and Abigail Willams that show examples of their behavior and hoe they behave in a way to get a reward and avoid punishment

There are many conventional characters found in the crucible; conventional behavior refers to people behaving in a way that allows them to be accepted into a group. To begin with, Mary Warren is fearful. She shows this fear when saying “I’ll never hurt you more.” Marry Warren was lying in the court leaving her in fear and discomfort, although avoiding trouble with Abigail.  Mary shows that she is scared but does not want to upset anyone, leading her to go against her own will. This shows her desire to fit in with others and put her own beliefs to the side. Next, Betty Parris is manipulative. This is illustrated when Betty explained “[she] saw Alice Burron with the devil.” For Betty to feel like she fit into the group and avoid punishment she followed the crowd. She heard all the girls confess and thought to do the same for herself. Betty provides a great example of being manipulated by avoiding trouble, then telling the truth. She shows that she is more focused on prioritizing fitting in. Lastly, Reverend Parris indicated that he is very self-interested. Specifically, when he explained “[He] would postpone those hangings for a time.”  This is an example that he does not care about justice in this situation but about his position in the community and how his actions may affect others and his image. His desire to delay the hangings illustrates his focus on how he thinks others may react. In conclusion, the conventional behavior of all these characters demonstrates the same actions in ways that allow them to be accepted into a group and go behind their beliefs.

There are characters in the Crucible that are post conventional. Post-conventional characters are confident in what they believe, with no reward, punishment of group acceptance is needed.  First, John Hale is frustrated.  This is demonstrated when John Hale proclaimed, “[He] quit the court.”  John Hale thought it was the right thing to leave, so he did just that. He feels frustrated as he understands that the court is biased and that innocent individuals are suffering consequences. Because the trial is unjust, he wants to resign. This response relies on his emotions instead of a strong ethical obligation. Moreover, Elizabeth proctor is loyal. This is show when she explains that “[Her] husband is a goodly man.” Elisbeth demonstrates her loyalty, because despite everything John Proctor has done, she still believes he possesses some goodness and defends him. Elizabeth is supporting her husband, John Proctor, despite being aware that his relationship with Abigail demonstrates a strong loyalty to her husband, regardless of the challenges they are experiencing. Elizabeth’s behaviors are motivated by her personal connections and a wish to safeguard her family. Her focus is keeping her relationship with John Proctor. At last, Giles is determined. For example, when he states “My proof is there” he presents evidence that saves his wife from false accusations of witchcraft stated by Thomas Putnam. His statement reflects a strong determination to stand by his beliefs, even in the face of getting accused. This determination, however, is driven by protecting his loved ones and making sure that he is not caught up in the wrongs of the trials. Overall, this illustrates that post-conventional characters are confident in what they believe, with no reward, punishment of group acceptance is needed including characters from the Crucible such as John Hale, Eliabeth proctor and Giles.

In summary, applying Kohlberg’s stages of moral development offers a strong perspective for analyzing the characters in The Crucible and the reasons for their behaviors. This essay examined the three levels of moral development, pre-conventional, conventional, and post-conventional. And how these levels influence the actions and choices of main characters in the play. Characters such as Betty Parris, Ann Putnam, and Abigail Williams illustrate pre-conventional behavior by acting in self-interest to avoid punishment and gain a reward or benefits. In the meantime, characters like Mary Warren and Reverend Parris show a typical behavior, driven by the need to conform to the group and fit in. Ultimately, individuals such as John Hale, Elizabeth Proctor, and Giles show post-conventional behavior by their actions and dedication to their principles, even in difficult situations. Examining the characters using Kohlberg’s stages of moral development provides a better understanding of the motivations behind the events that occur in the Crucible.

Textiles Core Competency Self- Assessment

Core competency Self Assessment

Communication

This year, so far I have been working on communication, especially when it comes to my project. As this is my first piece of clothing I have ever made it have it has lead me to a lot of questions, which I’ve gotten a lot of support and answers from my peers and teachers. Having these questions has left me with improving my communication skills especially with my peers, as we try to figure out the problems together forming friendships.

These are the pajama shorts that I made, with a stretchy waist band and lace to add the final touch.

Social Justice 12 Core Competency Self-Assessment

Part 1- Article

Causes and consequences

Based on the article, there are several factors that attribute towards the causes of the gender pay gap in British Columbia. Among some of the main ones are occupational segregation, whereby women are more likely to work in lower positions or -paying industries compared to men. Discrimination and bias in hiring, salary negotiations and promotion also contribute to this gap. Therefore more then average of caregiving responsibilities, such as child care and eldercare, generally fall on woman, leading to careen interruptions and deduce earing potential.

In BC the consequences of the gender pay gap are very noticeable and significant.  Women earning 83 cents for every dollar earned by men means they have less financial stability, struggle to afford basic necessities, and are more likely to experience poverty and economic insecurity. Addressing these issues requires systemic changes in policies, workplace practices, and societal attitudes towards gender equality and fair compensation.

Part 2- Refection

Throughout this course I demonstrated the core competences of communication as well as creative/ critical thinking. Starting with communication, I feel as though through the class discussions  we often partook in, they were a helpful way for me to learn and understand concepts. When we had group discussions at our table, I felt these really helped. I often contributed, and had lots of opportunity to learn.  If I did not understand something or felt I was finding something difficult, I would discuss with my group and get different ideas to help me.

When it comes to creative and critical thinking, one assignment that stands out for me is the “I had a dream” poster. I felt like I did a good job in that assignment because I found a way to turn my quote into an art piece that resembles the meaning without words. Throughout the term, I consistently applied critical thinking skills, whether it was in reflections, project work, or assignments. Overall, I feel as though I learned so much new information in this class and I tried my best throughout the semester.

Drama Refection

Communication

This semester in drama, I believe I demonstrated significant communication skills. Effective scripts, scenes, and improv rely heavily on clear communication and active listening within the group. Collaborating with my peers required us to exchange ideas, give and receive feedback, and ensure everyone was on the same page.

Additionally, this class has greatly contributed to my confidence and public speaking abilities. Performing in front of an audience and participating in class discussions have pushed me out of my comfort zone, allowing me to become more comfortable and articulate when speaking in public. Overall, my experiences in this drama class have not only improved my communication skills but have also helped me grow as a more confident and effective speaker.

EFP 11 Reflection

Curricular Competencies Reflection

For this project, our group had to work together to create a presentation about a character from Thomas King’s book “Green Grass Running Water.” We were given the character Latisha, who had both advantages and disadvantages. I learned a lot about indigenous perspectives and even the treatment of women at times from reading only about Latisha. I thought that I spoke pretty clearly and, for the most part, confidently when I was delivering the power point. The presentations, in my opinion, was really successful in making our points very evident.

Core Competencies Reflection- Communication/Collaboration

During project preparation, I noticed that the group worked effectively together. To make things fair, we all collaborated and divided the presentation into equal parts. We would all contribute to making the presentation the best it could be.

Connecting Media and Psychological Disorder Mind Map Reflection

3 Core Competencies

I can analyze evidence to make judgements.

For this assignment, we had to pick a song and describe three different psychological perspectives that the music focuses on. I chose the song “In my Blood” by Shawn Mendes. We got given a list of psychological perspectives to choose from, I analyzed the evidence to make judgments and connections between which perspectives related to the meaning behind the lyrics.

I can reflect on my thinking.

Making this mind map, I used a lot of creative thinking, I made connections from the lyrics and psychological perspectives. While reading and listening to the lyrics, I gave careful thought to my thoughts in an attempt to comprehend the singer’s experiences.

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others.

Choosing a song that talks about dealing with a psychological disorder was a bit difficult. After some thought I chose the song in my Blood. I built off the idea that the lyrics talk about the struggles with anxiety. I made connections and went more in depth about how dealing with anxiety can look like.

Research Assignment Reflection

Core Competency: I can persevere over time to develop my ideas, and I expect setbacks and failure, but use that to develop my ideas

For this research assignment I chose this core competency because I feel it reflects me well. During this assignment, some of difficulties that I had were to find the right information that matches the criteria but also ensure the viewer of the poster is interested in all the information. I sometimes spend too much time and overthink the layout of my work, however I know I have lots of ideas and will use this to develop my work as I persevere and don’t give up.
