Textile Arts and Crafts Core Competency Self-Assessment

Core Competency Self-Assessment: Textile Arts and Crafts

Creative Thinking

My Artifact: spider web shoes

An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is when I choose to embroider and sew on beads to shoes taking inspiration from someone embroidering a spider web with beads. I then thought of putting it on shoes building on there idea by putting it on something else. When it seems the good ideas just won’t come to me, I try to take inspiration from different things to help create space in my mind to be creative. I can persevere over time to develop my ideas, and I expect setbacks and failure, but use that to develop my ideas. if you make a mistake it is a change to create that into something or the mistake makes the project look better. This project has some stitch’s that I didn’t mean to do but turned out fine.

Domain & Range

Y=1/2 x^3

Domain: XER

Range: YER

The domain is all the possible X values there can be and the range is all the possible Y values you can have.

My graph is a function and a one to one function because there are no X values that have two Y values and there are Y values that have the same X values.

Self-Assessment

  1. I showed the equation and the equation on a graph
  2. I used the words “domain” and “range” properly and explained what they mean.
  3. I clearly formates the equation so you can read it clearly

Core Competency Reflection

If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to come to a compromise where both people can agree on what ever it is. If they refuse to come to a agreement you come up with a different solution.

I show that I value feedback from others in my group by listening and trying there ideas or incorporating there ideas into the project.

Goal

An example of an idea I developed that was new to my peers is…

I need to work on sharing my ideas with bigger groups and people I do not know.

Curricular Competency Reflection

Where were you able to assess how underlying conditions and the actions of individuals or groups influence events, decisions, or developments, and analyze multiple consequences? (Social Studies 10)

In my Echo Project I will be exploring the decisions made not only by my Grandfather but others both before and after him and how their decision and actions lead to the AIDS crisis, mitigated the possible effects on British Columbia, and how it has lead us to where we are with HIV/AIDS now.

How have you grown in your leadership skills this term? When and where do you think you have demonstrated leadership the best? (Leadership 11)

I have become more comfortable expressing my opinion in both small groups and with the large group but the place I have demonstrated this best is in my willingness to lead the entire group during hiking/snow shoeing sessions for periods of time.

How have you developed skills in maintaining healthy relationships, promoting physical and mental well-being, and analyzing the risks and effects of social media, substance abuse, stereotyping, and exploitative situations? (PHE 10)

I am much better at recognizing when people truly want to be my friend and when they are just trying to take advantage of my good nature. I have remained off of social media though I do recognized that it has both benefits and dangers. I have also earned more about the dangers of substance abuse, stereo tying, and exploitive situations while also learning why people get themselves into those situations. I have learned about different types of being in shape and being healthy both mental and physical.

Which physical activities did you engage in and enjoy the most this term? (PHE 10)

This term I enjoyed going on the hikes the most. While I found them quite tiring, it was fun to get out in the wilderness with a group of people and challenge ourselves while enjoying nature.

My First Year

My Grade 9 Year

When I am having difficulty with something, I usually struggle. I look at the page. I ask the people around me, and ask, “Do you know what this is?”, and hope that they understood it. In Social Studies, for example, it’s easy to lean over and ask if I missed something, or if I missed something important. If that doesn’t work, I will go to an adult that I trust, like my parents. I go my parents because it’s easier for me to ask them, they are good at explaining things in a way I understand. It’s also easier to ask at home, sometimes it’s why I email my teachers instead of asking in person.

My Useful Educational Website

I don’t remember using it, but

My useful Educational Video

This video is about asexual/sexual reproduction of cells. Learning about this was very helpful, we studied plant cells and animal calls. Of everything I’ve learned this year this topic is the one I know the least about.

My Useful Educational Image

It’s a word play on teaching a lesson you won’t soon forget and word play is a fun and interesting part of English class. It’s also related to my learning, specifically the novel I read for English.

My Inspirational Quote

Don’t let the prospect of being by yourself hold you back from doing what you love to do because even if you were alone in the beginning you won’t be by the end.

Elizabeth. B

This is a quote that I feel is a good one to live your life by. It feels true. I also have an attachment to it because it was said by someone I know.

ADL Social Studies- Ethical Judgement

Reflection Questions- Is violence justified during a revolution/ protest?

A) How did the use of AI assist you in developing this project

it made things easier to find and look up. it made sourcing so much easier.

B) How did you ensure that the work you created was still your own, rather than just a product of the AI

not actually taking word for word there sentences and looking at the sources given. also not using the ai sometimes

C) Did you agree with the position you had to argue? Why or why not?

absolutely violence should not be used if there is evidence of it being accomplished in a not violent way.

Core Competency Reflection

I use evidence to make judgements or decisions as demonstrated with information I collected from the variety of expert sources brought to me by the AI. I took the evidence and was able to put together a cogent argument in opposition to using violence during protests.

I compile and synthesize information to draw reasoned conclusions, such as when I took a variety of sources in this assignment and was to compile them into a complete argument that made sense when arguing that violence during protests is working against your own interests.

The Wee Free Men: My Movie

My Movie

plot, character, setting, and mood

· Explain how you figured out what your Avatar would look like.

It has a good description of the of the protagonist and has a picture of her at the beginning of the book.

· How did you choose the plot points?

I summarized the plot first and then went through the plot and picked out what was going to be the main plot points.

· Explain how you figured out the setting in your story. Why is the setting significant to the story?

It was explained in the book and it is based on where the author grew up.

· Explain what the word mood means and how/why you picked the song that you picked?

The pervading tone or feeling in a work of art. The high lazy notes of the song make me thing of dreams. in the story a major plot point is about dreams.

Core Competency Reflection

This is how I select images and words to create impact for different audiences. I chose images for this project that showed some concepts and visuals that would have been difficult to communicate clearly in words. The image I chose of the Queen of the Fairies in both of her forms at once was a particularly impactful image that conveys much more to the reader than even a whole paragraph can. In this assignment choosing words is much easier as well, since the writer is so good with words that much of my job was just choosing just the right descriptions that he did of the characters and the action to convey what I needed for the project. The concepts of first sight and second thoughts was something that I particularly connected with and conveys so much with just a few words.

I seek, develop and weigh options as demonstrated by the plot points I used in my presentation and the pictures I chose for it. The plot points I used are the ones that I felt were reasonably easy for my classmates to understand and form a narrative overall. The pictures I chose back up the words with visuals that match them quite well.

An example of an idea I developed that was new to my peers are the ideas that most people see what they want to see and that only a few people see what is really there. This is true for real life as well, as many people see things the way they feel they should be and have a difficult time seeing things for how they really are. Often people simplify things for them to try to understand them better but end up losing the complicated true thing that is actually there.

Core Competencies

Thinking: Critical & Reflective Thinking

I can connect my learning with my experiences, efforts, and goals.

I connected the sewing projects to my past experiences I have had with sewing. I connected it with the small goals I made to finish the bigger and more important goal. I connected it with the effort I was willing to put in with past project and or experiences I have had. I connect some the projects with my past experience with not wanting to try a new thing but trying it anyway and finding a new interest in that thing.
