A Spanish Speaking Country

Panama

Comparison To Canada

Panama and Canada are very different countries, even if the names follow a similar pattern. Unlike Canada, Panama is very focused on their religion of choice, shown by some of the most important holidays to the country being focused around religion. Both countries have a lot of popular landmarks, but Panama’s are older and more history based, while Canada’s are more about geography. both countries have rich musical heritages, and have many popular types of music. I would absolutely love to visit Panama because it is where my dad was raised so learning more about my heritage would be really fun.

Core Competency Reflection

I can form new ideas and create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others. I did this by turning a power point slide into my poster, and using the flag of Panama as my background and to make the poster look more finished.

I can persevere over time to develop my ideas, and I expect setbacks and failure, but use that to develop my ideas. When my entire project was deleted by my parents accidentally while I was showing it to them I persevered and restarted the entire poster.

I can reflect on my thinking by taking breaks from writing and rereading what I have already wrote to get a better understanding on the topic and my works.

I can create creative work over time by taking small breaks when I start to feel bored to avoid burnout and to make sure all my work is as good as I can make it.

My Creation

Core Competency Reflection

I can ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. I showed this by listening and giving feedback on my groupmates ideas.

I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way. I showed this by explaining to my group how and why we should explain our information to the class.

I can think about what I am going to convey and to whom I will convey it. I knew that I was going to convey the creation of a mutt from the perspective of a capitol scientist. I knew my audience wouldn’t care about real science so the creature and it’s abilities didn’t need to be accurate.

I can inquire into and present on topics of interest and topics related to my studies. I showed this by researching many different animals to find the best ones to suit the idea we had thought of.

My Advertisement

Persuasion and Advertisement Techniques

Persuasion and Advertisement Unit Reflection

Why is it important to remember who benefits from the advertisement when you view an advertisement?

If you forget that an advertisement is trying to make money and not help you then you will be more likely to get persuaded and buy things that you don’t need / want.

Choose one form of persuasion and explain why it is effective in persuading you/an audience: logical, ethical, emotional on an audience

Ethical persuasion works so well because generally the people who are in the advertisement are trusted by the viewer, and that makes the people believe that the advertised thing is the best.

Choose an advertising technique and explain why it is effective in selling a product.

Snob shaming works on people because it targets there egos. It makes them think they are better then others because of the expensive soap that they use.

Core Competency Reflection

I knew my group was working well together when my partner and I each played to our individual strengths to go as fast as possible during this project.

One of the ways I ensured my group was clear on what we were doing was to go over multiple different ideas so we could get the best possible one, and then made sure we were both on the same page about it.

I sought, developed and weighed options as demonstrated by changing my original plan and over came the adversity of my own ignorance.

Math Self Assessment

  1. Some of the ways i work to build and maintain relationships are trying to make the people laugh, and just generally trying to entertain people, especially if they are having bad days. I also try to help peope when they need it.
  2. When I am sad, angry, or frustrated, playing chess usually helps me be calm and productive, until I forget about my work and lose track of time playing chess.
  3. When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I try to turn on relaxing music on Spotify. Sometimes that isn’t enough, when that is the case I try to talk to my friends or family depending on where I am.
  4. To celebrate an accomplishment like doing well on a test, I like to try to see the mistakes I made and how to improve so next time I do even better.

ADL-Collaboration and Solutions for Financial Literacy

1: Solution

The way I am choosing to earn enough money to put the $120, 000 down payment is by investing in stocks for the first two years, because if the stock goes down in either of these two years, I lose significantly less than in the third year. In the third year I will put all my money into a 3.5% one-year GIC, because this is guaranteed to get the amount of money I will need.

This way to me seems much less risky than putting all three years with stocks.

         Year 1

$80,000 x 1.07486 = $85,988.8

+10k = $95, 988.8                     Year 2

$95,988.8 x 1.07486 = $103,174.52

+10k = $113,174.52                  Year 3

$113,174.52 x 1.035 =$117,135.63

+10k = $127, 135.63

2: Visual Representation – I used Excel to make this graph

3: Justifications

The reason I choses this solution is because as I said earlier, the risk of a bad year of stocks is much less damaging in the first two years then the last, and I end up with an extra $7k.

The advantages of this way are :

  1. Lower risk of huge loss
  1. Extra $7k at the end of year 3

The disadvantages are:

  1. First two years are susceptible to losses
  1. If either of the first two years have a loss, it will take more then 3 years to make the money
  1. If the first 2 years do go well for stocks, it might have been smarter to invest in stocks because of the extra ~$4k.

4: Collaboration and Contributions

a) I really liked working with my group. I think we work well together, but I think I didn’t give them enough chances to do the work, and just did most of it myself, which is a mistake, because if one person does too much of the assignment, the others could lose interest very quickly.

b) I contributed to my group by taking charge and doing a lot of the equations. My group mates didn’t do to much, but they corrected my mistakes when I made them.

c) No I didn’t because the solution we did was too risky for me to do IRL, and I know I wouldn’t want to do it if I was actually trying to buy a house.

d) I would rather it a ¾ because though I did help, I feel like a didn’t leave room for my team to do much

5: Core Competency

  • One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to…

Explain what we need to do after reading the instructions, then asking for assistance from an authority if I need to ask a question. This way if my group doesn’t know something, I can get help from someone who they will believe and trust with giving us the information.

  • If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to…

If I am the one disagreeing, I try to put myself into the other persons shoes to see their perspective. If I am not, I will try to mediate the disagreement and prevent it from turning into a problem.

  • When I am sad, angry or frustrated, doing…

Taking a break from what I am doing, removing myself from the situation, and try to refocus and remember that none of what I do right now really matters, because all it will amass to is a letter on a piece of paper helps me be more productive or calm.

  • Although I am challenged by my hearing loss I can get through these challenges by tapping in to…

My people skills, so that if I miss something, I can ask for an explanation from either my peers or teacher(s). I can also turn my hearing aids up or down depending on the situation at hand to hopefully hear better.
