My Digital Footprint: Keeping Myself Safe

Creating a Positive and Safe Digital Footprint

What is a Digital Footprint? Why is internet safety important?

Digital footprint is a person’s information that exists online. A digital footprint, sometimes a digital shadow, can be used to track a person’s online activities and devices.  Being safe on the internet is important because if you’re not there is a risk of accidentally disclosing their personal data, illegal downloads, file sharing, spyware, viruses, inappropriate advances and cyber bullying. Dangerous/unsafe activities of leaving a digital footprint are bullying and harassment, scams and danger to reputation.

To build a positive digital footprint you must think before posting because it never really goes away when you delete it, searching yourself up to see that you might not want anyone seeing and if you do to check privacy settings. A positive footprint will benefit your future opportunities and your reputation.

To reduce and protect your digital footprint are by deleting old email accounts, limiting social media to reduce a digital footprint, skip the survey, create a spam email address, remove yourself from people search sites, set up stealth mode when you search. Digital footprints can negatively affect your life by influencing someone’s opinion or Perceptive of you and by ruining friendships and relationships. It can also affect your future because college admission officers look at an applicant’s social media profile which includes Facebook, twitter and Instagram to learn more about you. Digital footprints can expose an individual’s private psychological sphere into the social sphere and can be used to get personal information without the person’s knowing.

Core Competency Reflection

My online support network Teachers’ TEAMS pages, is helpful to me because they.. they provide me with work that I missed when I’m not at school.

Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence include…not abusing my time online by staying on my computer all day, manage my anger by not spreading hate messages on someone’s video and be nice and positive to everyone.

I know that my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences, including…so I adjust my actions to… including my relationships with my friends, family, and peers, so I adjust my actions to create a positive, safe, and helpful digital footprint.

The Things She’s Seen: The Movie

My Movie

Plot, Character, Setting and Mood

  • When finding out what the character looked like was easy because it said in the book that she had “curly dark hair, round cheeks, brown skin and blue eyes.”
  • I figured out the setting when was reading because it said the fire happened in a remote Australian town and when reading more into the book you can kind of set a time for it.
  • I chose those plot points because it takes place in Australia, in the beginning they are in their house telling us about the characters, and its all happening around the small little town.
  • I chose that song to play in the background because its a subtle book and nothing too sad or happy about.

Core Competency Reflection

In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by… asking questions about the topic, saying my opinion and being more involved in discussions.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I… I take a 10 minute break to clear my mind and reset so when I go back everything is fresh and new ideas appear.

Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better are… taking other people advise/ideas and channeling my inner child.

My Favourite Science 9 Activity

I really enjoyed this assignment because it was cool to use different elements of the periodic table to create different coloured flames. I also enjoyed it because I work better with hands on work and understood it more then I would have if we just watched videos and read from the texts book. I liked that we got to work with a partner because I got to listen to her ideas and hear her understanding of the project, which helped me understand it aswell.

Core Competency Reflection

when I need to boost my mood or re focus… something that has helped me keep my focus is listening to music. Music helps me concentrate on lots of things I do but mostly schoolwork. I used to get distracted by the lyrics and dance to it, but now I don’t dance often to music and the lyrics help me with writing and other subjects.it was last year that I realized music helped me focus more.

Technology & Wellbeing Reflection

I managed my stress by listening to music because when I focus on the melody and the words if the song everything in my mind disappears. I have temporary stress so when listen to music at night it goes away. Technology gives me access to music. I also manage my stress by watching funny people on YouTube because they always make me laugh.

Core Competency Reflection

I am kind to others, and support others when they need it. I always support my friends with good decisions but if its not a good choice I always try to help find a better way.

I find it easy to be part of a group. when I’m working with a group of people its less stressful to get it done on time and its better when I work with others so I can make connects with them.

I demonstrate respectful, inclusive behaviour. when people are off to the side during an activity I try my best to always include them so they don’t feel left out.

Core Competency Goals

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I… I tend to lose focus when I’m trying to do my homework at home. When I lose focus the majority of the time it’s because I’m on my phone. At school, I tend to get distracted by what’s around me or by zoning out because I’ve got something else on my mind or I don’t understand what to do for the assignment. Often at home I reread the assignment when I’m having a hard time understanding it because I usually get distracted in class. My goal is to try and focus more on my assignment in class by being more interactive and at home to clear the area I’m working on, so I don’t get any distractions. A way that has helped me keep my focus at home is by listening to music. Music helps me concentrate on lots of things I do like soccer but mostly schoolwork. I used to get distracted by the lyrics and dance to it, but now I don’t dance often to music and the lyrics help me with writing and other subjects.it was last year that I realized music helped me focus more.  A thing that helps me re-focus when studying for a test is to review the topic, take notes and then ask one of my family members to quiz me and whatever I got wrong or mixed up I review it all again. It doesn’t sound like much, but it helps me remember for the test/quiz. The last thing that helps me more is being more awake so I can go to sleep early and get at least 9 hours of sleep, so I wake up on time and feel more energized for the day.

When I’m sad, angry, or frustrated, doing … helps me be more productive or calm…  most of the time when I get a bad mark or grade, I tend to get frustrated and angry at myself because I knew I could do better if I just put a that bit more of effort the night before and because of that I also tend to get sad.  I also get extremely frustrated when I don’t understand the assignment at all and none of my friends can help me because I got nervous about asking a question in front of the class. My goal is to regulate my emotions when a bad grade comes across my path and not stress about it. Some ways I can do that are by asking more questions.

An example of something I have spent a lot of time learning about is… most of my time this year I have been playing soccer in my backyard or busy with practices. I think all the work I have put into soccer will pay off if I just gain the bravery for 1vs1. This spring I’m thinking of trying out for the centennial soccer team to help me get even better.

To summarize, my 3 goals this semester are to try and focus more in class and at home, control my emotions when I get a bad mark or grade and to become confident in soccer.
