Rube Goldberg Video

I used the core competency “I generate new ideas as pursue my interests” by suggesting creative chain reactions that matched our groups and myself overall theme which kept the group engaged and active.

During the design process, brainstorming ideas worked well. Executing those ideas didn’t until we started to do more simple designs. I solved problems by testing new idea and helping the group adjust designs together.

Our initial end-result was to somehow turn the water tap on. It did not stay that way because it was too difficult to get from the table to where the sink was in the lab.

If I did this again, I would like to change our end-result to something more exciting because that is the main point in the end of it all.

Career Project

Career Life Project Presentation

Curricular Reflection

Through this course I have learned a lot about career planning and made many life goals for the future. My strengths were being able to understand the different career paths and to match them with my interests and passions. My interests throughout this course have changed to be more around math and science as careers following that are more interesting to me. The way I have found information throughout this course is by using my blueprint which is a site that has everything to do with planning a career path. After exploring careers for more than half the course, I have settled on an Accountant because I like the environment they work in and the work they perform.

Core Competency Reflection

“I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way.”

I used this core competency in CLE 10 when researching my career as I Learned all the information needed and shared it via a presentation in a clear and concise manner.

“I can identify my strengths and identify my potential.”

I used this core competency when choosing a career to research. I identified what my strengths were, and I chose a career I had potential in to do well.

” I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others.”

I used this core competency when trying to find a career that suit me. I used others career ideas and compared them to myself to narrow down on what I wanted to do.

“I can ask open-ended questions to gather information.”

I used this when asking questions about my budgeting final project. I asked my teacher questions to help me move further along my budgeting project and to help me when I was stuck.

Core Competency Reflection

1- I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way. I chose this competency because I feel like while forming my paragraphs I could truly understand information and put in into my own words.

2- I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself. I chose this competency because working on this project took many hours so I kind of connect with this competency because after finishing I was so happy of my work.

3- I can appreciate diverse perspectives on issues and can resolve problems respectfully and effectively. This competency is basically saying that you can sit and listen to someone’s opinion/perspective no matter what it is and work things out without ignoring what they had to say.

4- I can represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experiences. This competency is saying that you can present your learning and connect it to your experiences at the same time. For example, If I went to the aquarium and saw a fish while 4 fins and examined it then later on I end up having to do a fish project for school, I can then use my experience with the fish I saw to help support my learning.

My Goal

I can identify my strengths and identify my potential. I am working on this goal because it can majorly increase my confidence in things I am strong in. I will achieve this goal by exceeding in things I am strong in and making sure I work my hardest.

Chemistry Unit Core Competency Reflection

Artifact Caption

In the video above, it shows the flame color when you light a few drops of copper chloride on fire. The video was recorded by me while my partner held the q-tip over the fire. I chose this artifact because, as you can see, the flame color was very unique and never seen before, making it very fascinating for me and other people around us.

Reflection

For my first chemistry unit in high school, I am extremely proud of the flame test lab. During this lab, we lit a handful of chemicals on fire and observed each of their unique fire colors. For my group, our lab was so great because all the colors were clear and visible, making it a sight to see. I also liked this lab the most because I scored a high mark on it.

An area of improvement for me in chemistry is fully understanding how to write the formulas and names for ionic compounds confidently instead of doubting if my answer is right or not. I can improve on this by continuing to practice with plenty of examples until I develop a technique that works for me.

During this unit and especially this artifact, I think I demonstrated the core competency: I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share. I demonstrated this competency because for every group project, I did what I had to do and got everything done as a group. In the artifact above, I demonstrated this competency by collecting the chemicals and all the required supplies while my partner did her share. In the artifact video, I recorded the video while my partner held the q-tip and burned the chemical to make the fire turn green.

Reflecting on My First Year

My Grade 9 Year

This year, I am most proud of how excellent my grades were in the first semester and how quickly I settled into the school making it comfortable and safe in my eyes. Some words that described my year are adapting, grinding, easygoing and fun. This year I learned a lot about Centennial’s school history and the complete layout of the entire school and schoolyard. This year I realized I work best when working alone because for many of my classes I did not so well working in groups with people i don’t know. This year I enjoyed the different activities provided in electives such as Power Technology. I liked how much stuff you could make and get to keep and there was always something more to do. My strengths this year are writing, math, sports and doing well in my classes.

My Favorite website

https://zbib.org

I chose this website because it was very helpful and made my life easier. Zbib.org has to be one of the most useful sites I discovered this year so far because it makes citing my sources from a wide range of classes so simple and extremely fast. I’ve used Zbib.org countless of times for any projects with the requirements of citing my sources (even this one) and always scored a high mark, thus making Zbib.org my favorite website this school year.

My Favorite Video

I chose to share this video because it helped me a lot about understanding the French Revolution in Social Studies. At the start of learning the French Revolution I truly struggled in understanding what was going on until my teacher showed us this video, which shows and describes everything you need to know about the French Revolution.

My Favorite Image

I chose this image because I saw it and deeply connected with it and wanted to share. I connected with this image and really thought deep about what it really meant and I came up with, the books being the years you must do in high school and the last book being graduating. As you can see the last book has a figure on top with a graduation cap and I thought that would be students after high school.

My Favorite Quote

I chose this quote and wanted to share it because it helped me a lot throughout the year. This quote is extremely powerful because many times in the past I had given up and became very frustrated but keeping this quote in the back of my head really helped me get through tough times.

Reflection Questions- Is violence justified during a protest?

A) How did the use of AI assist you in developing this project- AI assisted me in the creation of this project by helping me develop my ideas and give me key information with the click of a button. AI was very useful because it helped me save a lot of time and research.

B) How did you ensure that the work you created was still your own, rather than just a product of the AI- I Know the work is mine because I made sure to put any information I read into my own words and also site my sources.

C) Did you agree with the position you had to argue? Why or why not?- I highly agreed with the position I had because I really feel like nonviolent protests are a more peaceful way for asking what you want. Nonviolent protests are are just a better way of protesting without anyone getting hurt.

Competency Reflection

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include reading information carefully, searching for the correct information and making sure the information is legit by checking the sources.

One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to let them voice their own opinion and after i say my opinion. After discussing, this ensures that we are heavily clear on a certain purpose.

Geography Town Assignment

Geography Town Assignment

Curricular Competency Reflection

  • I understood, identified and explained the reasons for the physical process that formed and shaped the area of the town i chose.
  • I learned how to put this into a maphub and explain it.
  • i understood, identified and explained the reasons for the vegetation that grows in the area of the town i chose.

Core Competency Reflection

  • I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way. I chose this core competency because i feel like my presentation is clear about Whistler and organized. I also feel like i understood the information i gathered.
  • I can ask open-ended questions to gather information. I chose this core competency because i felt like i asked important questions for me to be able to gather the correct information to move forward with my presentation.
  • I can persevere over time to develop my ideas, and I expect setbacks and failure, but use that to develop my ideas. This core competency is saying that developing ideas take time and setbacks can help a lot with moving forward and eventually having solid ideas.
  • I can ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. This core competency is saying that once you be a good listener you and ask and respond to questions to help you.
  • I can represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experiences. I am working towards this goal because i feel like it will help develop my writing or projects to make them more interesting. I will achieve this by choosing topics that connect with me or doing things outside my comfort zone to have more experiences.

Capitol Mutation Collaborative Project

My Project

Public Speaking

This semester, i learned a lot about public speaking. I learned that public speaking can be very nerve racking and requires a lot of confidence and practice. A good public speaker should be able to glance at the audience every once in awhile to show that they are speaking word for word and know what they are talking about. I learned that it takes a lot to become a good public speaker because you need to convey information while also engaging with the audience you are presenting to. A good speech should have the audience interested and engage at all times and should be written with facts, proper sentence structure, proper punctuation and with good paragraph and idea structure. To be a good audience/listener you should always be respectful of the speaker and not be distracted.

Collaborating Core Competency Reflection

  • If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to let everyone share their ideas. I would usually let each person explain their idea one at a time and after we discuss and settle down on a idea.
  • When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I try to be friendly and really listen to what they have to say. In a group with no one i know i will try to get to know them and what they might want to agree on for the project and overall make jokes and be kind.
  • I know the group is working well together when I hear/ see my peers complementing each others work or saying what they did looks good.
  • I show others that I truly value their contributions by saying thank you if they fixed my work or if they gave me feedback on something i did wrong.

What is one goal you have for yourself going forward?

– One goal that i have for myself moving forward is getting better at English and overall become a better writer. I can achieve this goal by continuing to pay attention in class and to continue putting extra writing or work into my English work. I am working towards this goal because i was very bad at English in the past and now i really want to be good at it.

Advertisement Persuasion Project

My Advertisement

Persuasion and Advertisement Techniques

Persuasion and Advertisement Unit Reflection

Why is it important to remember who benefits from the advertisement when you view an advertisement?

-It is important to remember who benefits from an advertisement because if the advertisement ever persuades you, always remember not to give in and analyze who actually benefits from the ad.

Choose one form of persuasion and explain why it is effective in persuading you/an audience: logical, ethical, emotional

-Ethical Persuasion is very effective when persuading. It uses your idols and inspirations for example to persuade you into thinking the advertisement is good and you should invest into it. If i saw someone very famous and a doctor for example advertising that a certain toothpaste brand is healthy and good for you, i will most likely give in to it and invest in the toothpaste.

Choose an advertising technique and explain why it is effective in selling a product.

-Bandwagon is very effective in selling a product. For example if an advertisement was telling me to buy these new shoes, bandwagon will apply if they say something like “Everyone is wearing these shoes right now and so should you”, or “These shoes are being worn by every popular teenager”. Those types of phrases will catch most people and think the product makes them cool etc.

Core Competency Reflection

One of the ways I ensured my group was clear on what we were doing was to brainstorm our ideas first on a different PowerPoint then gathering all our good ideas and pasting it on a good copy.

When there was disagreement within the group, I found it helpful to let everyone share there ideas one at a time and we try to agree on one thing as a group.

I showed that I valued feedback from others in my group by asking them if a did a good job on my part of the advertisement and asking them if i should change anything.
