Communication Competency

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in my Earth Science project on Fiji. I created a visually engaging PowerPoint that explained Fiji’s volcanic activity, plate tectonics, and environmental challenges. I used images, and clear informative paragraphs, making sure it was both informative and easy to understand.

Critical and Reflective Thinking Competency

I used to think Fiji was just a tropical vacation spot, and now I know it’s also a geologically region with a lot of Earth science significance, like its location on the Pacific Plate and exposure to natural hazards.

Personal Awareness and Responsibility

Some short-term goals for myself include improving my time management so I don’t leave projects to the last minute. I plan to achieve this by setting earlier deadlines for myself. That way, I can lower stress and produce higher quality work.

Goal

One goal I have going forward is to seek, develop my options as demonstrated by how I chose to present my project. I considered doing a written report or poster but realized a PowerPoint would better show images. Going forward, I want to keep thinking carefully about how I present ideas.

When I work with peers I am able to express my ideas and make suggestions to our discussions. Our discussions help improve the quality and quantity of our work, which leads to the best mark possible. I strove for greatness and help in group discussions.

Inductive/Deductive Reasoning in Popular Games

Mastermind

The game that I played was Mastermind. Mastermind is a game where you have to guess a code that includes 4 colors. You have 8 colors to choose from and you can guess a sequence of 4 colors from those 8 at a time. When you guess a code, red and white pegs are placed into 4 slots to determine how many colors are correct. A red peg means a color is correct and in the correct spot, and a white peg means a color is correct but in the wrong spot. Although you get this information, you do not know which colors are correct, and that is where you have to do the rest of the thinking.

-By doing questions on the white board, I was able to make a positive difference to my peers by learning and contributing.

Chanson Francophone Presentation Project

My strategies for collecting information for specific tasks include using reliable sources, which means not using random information from some random website, and using google translate to help translate my sentences. Instead I use reliable sources such as word reference to help me translate single words from English to French.

As an active listener, I notice that while people are presenting their projects I pay attention and take notes while they speak. I also put away my work while they present instead of preparing for my own presentation.

Earthworm Lab Dissection

During the dissection of this earthworm, I enjoyed being able to visualize and learn through hands-on experience. Working with someone during this lab allowed me to the enjoy the lab and experience the core competency of communication. That is because I successful worked with a partner, and when working with someone it requires communication and effective collaboration. In this dissection Collaboration plays a significant role in group work. It improves the overall outcome, compared to taking arguing over each other’s ideas. In this lab, my partner and I worked together to identify body parts and structures, ensure that we both knew where and what they were. Which led to both of us completing the lab correctly. In conclusion, this lab showed the importance of teamwork when working with others.

This is my best work because I took time out of my day to research about my future education. My biggest take away from Career Life Education is probably how I got to research for jobs and my education. I liked how we got to develop resumes, make cover letters and get interviews.

Core Competency

I can make choices that help me meet my wants and needs and increase my feelings of well-being. I take responsibility for my actions.

I used that core competency during my assignment by making decisions to meet my own wants and needs for what college or university I wanted to go to. I also didn’t feel stressed when making those decisions
