Reflecting on My First Year

My Grade 9 year

This school year was quite interesting. It felt much longer then any of my other school years and although it wasn’t my favorite it was quite enjoyable. At first I did struggle a bit since this is my first year in highschool and there was a lot of new rules and people. But eventually I got the hang of it. I’ve made many accomplishments and learned many new things such as improved my art or broadened my knowledge in history. I haven’t met a lot of new people but my relationships with my friends has definetly grown stronger. I think I’m most proud of how strong I’ve grown mentally over the past few months. Looking back a year ago I was a lot more fragile and closed minded. But now I’m much more open and ready to take on challenges.

My Favorite Website

https://limbuscompany.com/

The website I chose is for a game called Limbus Company. Not only has this game comforted me in times of poor mental health but has also introduced me into stories that helped open my eyes and become more mature. See in Limbus Company all the main characters are based off main characters from different classic novels. The game makes a ton of refernces and each characters backstory is basically a re telling of the book their from. Because of this I decided to start reading the books and ever since them I’ve read countless classics. Not only have they helped develope my writing, reading, and story telling abilities but they’ve also helped me learn important things about how to live a good and successful life.

My Favorite Video

This video is part of a series on Youtube that explains different classic literature books. This particular one is about the Odyssey which is a book we read in my English class. Not only did it help me study for the test but it was quite enjoyable. Since then I’ve watched several other videos from this series and they’ve really helped me explore classic literature more.

My Favorite Image

This is a image of on of the art pieces I created in art class last semester. I chose to include it because I really enjoyed that course and it really helped my art grow. This was a water colour piece I created and it is one of my favorites. I hadn’t really experimented with water colours before so this was a very intresting and exciting experience.

My Favorite Quote

I don’t have a specific quote in mind but my English teacher, Mr. Cook has said a lot of things that have really inspired me and improved my grade 9 year. He talk a lot about importance/meaning behind stories and how older stories have stuck around for so long because they teach us important things. He also told me to treat life like an adventure and to not be afraid of new experinces. I feel ever since I’ve step into that classroom my life has improved so much and it’s all thanks to the little things Mr. Cook has taught me.

Demian: The Movie

My Movie

Plot, Character, Setting and Mood

· Explain how you figured out what your Avatar would look like.

This wasn’t much of a physical description so I guess it just kind of came to me based off how they described the characters personality.

· How did you choose the plot points?

I went through the book and tried to find the main point of each chapter and then I used my knowledge on stories to sort them into diferent parts like the climax and rising action.

· Explain how you figured out the setting in your story. Why is the setting significant to the story?

It told me where the story took place and thats how i knew. The stories setting is significant because back in that time Christianity was very big in Europe. I feel like this story could have taken place in our time any where in the world though.

· Explain what the word mood means and how/why you picked the song that you picked

Mood to me is how something feels. Like what thoughts it brings to my mind. I chose a song that felt not happy but not sad to repersent how the book made me feel.

Core Competency Reflection

An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is when I made my own original art work for based off scenes from the book.

When i need to boost my mood or refocus, I take a break from working/reading and i go for a walk or play a simple video game.

I can describe how things that happen in the book relate to my life. Like when Sinclair talked about how he views Demian I related to that in the way where i too view certain people in my life like that.

ADL Financial Literacy

Start: 80,000

GIC: 80,000 x 1.035 = 82,800

Savings: 82,800 + 10,000 = 92,800

Stocks year 1: 92,800 x 1.075 = 99,760

Stocks year 2: (99,760 + 10,000) x 1.075 = 117,992

Total: 117,992 + 10,000 = 127,992

Why did I chose to put my money into GIC and Stocks?

My reasons for chosing GIC and stocks is because they would get me enough money for the down payment. Plus I didn’t want to compeltley risk it losing all my money but at the same time I’m open to some risk.

Assesing my collaboration:

I feel like everyone in my group equally contributed although some did put in more effort then others. We all got along well though and combined our ideas and thoughts to come up with our ideas.

Reflection:

I can collaborate well with others and share my ideas. For example when my group mates needed ideas i shared mine to help them out.

I can comunicate well with my other group mates and respect what they have to say. For example if one of my group mates wanted to share their idea or point I’d let them have the chance to talk.

I can take responsibility over my share of work. I make sure that I am not getting distracted and staying on task. I also make sure I complete my share of work.

I can use my critical thinking skills to solve problems and figure out the best solution for myself.
