Bio 12

In biology 12 we demonstrated communication in labs between partners.

In this fetal pig dissection, my lab partner and I used communication to better dissect and label parts of the pig. One of us dissected the pig and made the incisions where the other one looked at notes and diagrams, pointing out parts and points to dissect the pig. We also communicated with each other about any disagreements we had about which part of the pig is which. Communication was key in this lab and without it we would have taken far longer to complete it and would have had many disagreements unresolved.

The Crucible Essay on Kohlberg’s Moral Precepts

According to Kohlberg’s Moral Precepts, the characters in Arthur Miller’s drama “The Crucible” represent preconventional, conventional, and postconventional morality during the play.

Preconventional Morality is when an individual bases their decisions on avoiding punishment or seeking a reward. Abigail Williams, Reverend Parris, and Thomas Putnam are examples of characters that exhibit preconventional morals. Using Abigail as an example, she says in Act 1, Scene 1, Page 48, “I want to open myself!… I saw Indians bash my lovely parents’ heads on the pillow next to mine,” justifying her immoral behavior. The Reverend Parris declares, “She’ll kill me for sayin’ that!” ” putting his reputation and status above the facts. Parris worries that Abigail may retaliate against him for suggesting that she might have done something wrong, and he also worries that her reputation and actions will reflect negatively on him. Act 1, Scene 1, Page 12 shows him acting in his own self-interest. “I have taken your part in all contention here, and I would continue; but I cannot if you hold back in this. There are hurtful, vengeful spirits layin’ hands on these children.” Thomas Putnam says in Act 1, Scene 1, Page 15, demonstrating his readiness to take advantage of the situation for his own financial benefit and to settle personal scores.

Conventional Morality is when an individual bases their decisions off societal norms and expectations. John Proctor, Elizabeth Proctor, and Judge Danforth all exhibit conventional morality. In order to preserve his image, John initially keeps his relationship with Abigail a secret, declaring in Act 1, Scene 2, Page 22, “That’s done with.” Elizabeth emphasizes her dedication to moral principles when she says in Act 2, Scene 2, Page 55, “The magistrate sits in your heart that judges you,” She explains that she appreciates honesty and does not judge her spouse. “A person is either with this court or he must be counted against it”, Judge Danforth declares in Act 3, Scene 1, Page 94, demonstrating his adherence to the law and the authority of the court.

Post-Conventional Morality is when an individual bases their decisions and choices without a care for any reward, punishment, or societal expectation. Characters like Giles Corey, Reverend Hale, and John Proctor exhibit morality that deviates from the norm (later in the play). Giles Corey challenges the court and stands up for his wife, even at the risk of personal harm, saying “I will not give you no name. I mentioned my wife’s name once and I’ll burn in hell long enough for that” (Act 3, Scene 3, Page 97), showcasing his dedication to moral beliefs. Although originally in favour of the witch trials, Reverend Hale later doubted the credibility and authority of the court, claiming “There is blood on my head! Can you not see the blood on my head!!” (Act 4, Scene 4, Page 131), demonstrating a change in his moral growth. John Proctor also demonstrates postconventional morality when he decided to confess to a crime he never committed in order to keep his name, saying “Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life!” (Act 4, Scene 4, Page 143) by putting his dignity before the social pressures upon him.

These moments in The Crucible display how characters exhibit Kohlberg’s moral precepts, from preconventional to conventional to postconventional morality, highlighting the complexity of human ethics and how it affects their decisions and acts.

Precalc 12 Self Portrait Conics Assignment

For our final unit of precalculus 12, we learned about conics. We were taught the graphs and how they work as well as what variables change the graph whether it be by translations or expansions/compressions. The reason why I chose the functions that I did was that I found an ellipse to be very useful in portraying the image of an eye, a pupil, and the iris. I found that hyperbolas were useful for making the nose and I used those for the bottom of the nose. Radical functions were very good for hair as they had a slight curve to them which my hair has in the picture I chose. Straight-line graphs were good for any portion that were straight or had a sharp curve so I used them a lot. Parabolas were also very useful, with the right compressions I could use them to make my hat as my hat is slightly curved. I also used a parabola on the lower part of my face because it matched almost perfectly when lining it up due to my oval-shaped head. A way I went above and beyond was I added custom colours to everything as well as shaded the lips in.

P.S: You may need to zoom in on the lips because I think the shading made it kind of buggy and the top lips disappear when zoomed out.

Chemistry 12 Edublog

During Chemistry 12 this semester we used communication a lot in order to effectively complete labs. During lab 20G communication was a big factor in getting accurate results. During this lab we titrated 100.0mL of Oxalic Acid (H2C2O4 .2H2O) using NaOH. Our first attempt was a failure as we got a dark pink color in our Erlenmeyer flask. However we were able to communicate with each other on results that we observed previously as to where the solution may be slightly basic and a light pink. Because of this we now knew the general area as to where our solution would turn light pink and could now do the experiment faster. On attempt 2 we barely went over and were now even closer to knowing the right amount of NaOH needed to neutralize 100.0mL of Oxalic Acid. For attempt 3 we used our communication skills to help each other use the right strategies such as using half drops at certain points once we got very close. By doing so we observed a light pink that was good for using in our average volume calculation. We then did this experiment one more time to further establish proof of the amount of NaOH needed to fully neutralize the Oxalic Acid and we completed the titration again this time with a better coloured pink then the attempt beforehand.

Communication is a huge part of Chemistry 12 in all aspects whether it be studying, doing labs, or doing normal coursework. Communication has definitely helped me improve my Chemistry skills and become more confident in this class.

Chemistry 11 Collaboration

Collaboration is a big part of Chemistry 11, it is used very often whether it is in class on some problems or in the lab on a project. Good collaboration skills allow you to help and be helped by a partner and/or peers.

Titration Lab

This Titration Lab is a great example of collaboration, it involved carefully measuring solutions and using precise techniques to get a good final product. My partner and I collaborated on observing the reaction and getting measurements. We also discussed possible sources of error and came up with some good base ideas that we could build off of individually.

Chemistry 11 is a course that heavily relies on and includes collaboration as you are nearly always with a partner during labs and work together very often during classroom time.

Brave New World

The Writing Process

Brave New World was a very interesting voook yo read. It opened up many thoughts for me and really made me think on what is more important: Truth or happinrss. The book is in a setting where happiness is far more valued qnd that allows us to visualize that kind of world because in our world truth is more valued compared to Aldous Huxleys’ Brave New World. It took some time to read the book and to find quotes. Those were the most challenging aspects of the process. In order to overcome them I just took some time and pushed through it. I enjoyed the part where Bernard brought John out and made the director resign out of out of embarrassment and shame.

Core Competency Reflection

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in the fact that I wrote and presented a book response in front of the class.

One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is imagining the world and scene that the book describes to get a better picture of the characters situation.

I remain open minded as I explore viable options or alternative approaches, like when I thought of which is more valuable, happiness or truth.

One thing I want to work on for next time is to show others that I truly value their contributions by asking for their feedback and thanking them.

Physics 11 Core Competency Assessment

Communication and Collaboration

This photo represents my ability to communicate and collaborate because during this group project, we needed to communicate effectively to ensure accurate results. We counted down 3, 2, 1, go to make sure everyone started walking/running at the same time that the timers started their timers. After collecting the data, we all met up where we collaborated and discussed the different data points that we gathered from the activities. We all did our fair share of the work contributing mostly equally. We worked together to achieve a goal and did so without problems.

foods week 7

For week 7 of foods, I made tortellini with sauteed mushrooms and parmesan cheese.

For this cooking week I did very well, everything was cooked great and on time. I could have improved on the number of ingredients I used but I was limited to ingredients at the time. So I made use of what I had and I think it turned out really good!

I knew exactly what I was making and the steps to do so and did everything right.

This is the final product for my dinner.

foods week 5

For week 5 of foods i made scrambled eggs with sauted onions and sliced turkey.

First I diced the onions, and sliced the turkey into small, thin pieces. Then I put 2 eggs into a bowl and added 50ml of milk, I then whisked the eggs and milk and 25ml of canola oil in the pan. I put the pan on medium-low and put the egg-milk mixture and the onions in until the eggs were cooked. I put it onto a plate and added the turkey pieces and put some ketchup on as well.

I did not face any challenges and did everything perfectly. I could have used more ingredients but it was still very good.

Foods final project

For my final foods project, I made potstickers with stuffing and cranberry sauce. It was easy but was very tasty at the same time.

This is me making the main course which is the potstickers.

This is the stuffing.

This is the cranberry sauce.

And this is the finished product of all 3.

The red-orange sauce in the top left is sweet pepper jelly sauce, something that goes great with potstickers.

For this meal, I planned for the feel and the appearance to have a balance of softness and crispness, I also planned for it to smell and taste sweet and herby. And my meal turned out nearly exactly how I planned it to be.

One thing I could have changed was the number of cranberries in the cranberry sauce. I wish that I added more cranberries because I felt the sauce needed to be more chunky. All the other qualities were as I expected.

I believed I showed great skills involving mis en place by making all the food at the same time because i put the stuffing in the oven first and boiled the cranberry sauce once the stuffing cooked for 1 hour 20 mins until boiled and heated the potstickers in the pan with oil and water for 3 mins then dumped the liquid out and cooked until golden brown and crispy. I also showed skills in cooking food perfectly by cooking all my food until they are perfect, none of my food was overcooked or undercooked.

This dish reflects on who I am because it is soft and crunchy which relates to me because I can be relaxed or energetic. Also, it is sweet because I can be a good person. This dish is important to me because it reflects who I am and who my family is.
