The photo above shows some onion stem cells going through Mitosis. I can give, receive and act on feedback to progress in my goals because when I was told how to find the onion cells, me and my partner followed the instructions in order to reach our goal of finding the cells. I can ask open ended questions to gather information because I had to ask the teacher sometime to help me focus the 40x lens onto the stem to make sure I get a clear picture of what the cells look. Others find my feedback useful because I tell other people in the lab what I found so we can compare cells and see what we are missing.
I can ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. I have been a active listener and I have asked for help when I needed it because when I was having troubles with the climate activities, I asked for how I can find some examples to put on the slide. I also used the information that was given to me so I could figure out what to do.
I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way. I can do this because when people asked me for help and asked me for questions, I was able to help them out because I knew what they needed because of the information given to us. I also figured out a clear way to explain to them without making it hard for the person to understand.
I can think about what I am going to convey and who I will convey it. I knew what I was going to say to the people who read my PowerPoint because I wrote it down ahead of time. Mr. Wilkinson gave us a sheet that helped us with our planning. I also tried to put myself in the other person’s perspective so I can figure out what they are thinking of.
I can deliberately learn about things that interest me, and new ideas pop into my head. I can think of ideas because I use the website that my town had and I did my research and I got ideas while I was looking at it.
Is violence justified during a revolution or protest? đ
A) How did the use of AI assist you in developing this project
It gave me ideas on how I can talk about why violence in revolutions and protests shouldn’t be justified. It also showed me helpful websites where Perplexity found the information. (I am not counting the points from Reddit…) Anyways!! AI helped me a lot with my information and other stuff.
B) How did you ensure that the work you created was still your own, rather than just a product of the AI
I know because when I was looking at the ideas for my side of the debate, I was looking at the key words in the sentence that AI made and I figured out what it meant and I put it in my own words and looked at the websites that I used and gave them the credit every time I took something from their site. I had to put it in my own word because it would be plagiarism.
C) Did you agree with the position you had to argue? Why or why not?
Yes, I did agree with the side I got. I believe that protests don’t always have to be violent. There’s always another option even if it doesn’t look like there’s a way. Every time I saw a protest or heard of one, I was always wondering if it was violent and if nobody was getting hurt.
Core Competency Reflection :/
When I need to work collaboratively with people I donât know well, I like to get to know their names and what they do. I like to get to know them better but sometimes I don’t like being around people when I’m meeting new people. But, if it was in a group project or a sports team, I would talk to them because I would have to in order to get my grades and to finish the project.
My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include doing research. I like to research my topic and see what comes up. Then I would take the information and put it into my own words. If I didn’t have my laptop or my phone to do research, I would use the sheets that my teacher gives to me and ask for help if I needed it.
I don’t really get stressed a lot luckily, but I do get stressed during group work in academic stuff. I do get stressed while being in sports. For an example, when I was in gym last year in grade 8, I had to go against someone from the basketball team. I realized that I was checking a 6 foot tall guy from the team. Although, I kind of lost at the game, I did have stress knowing that I was trying to keep my team up and going while I was checking the guy. Also, another time, last semester in English, we did a mock trial. I was the team leader and also the main lawyer of the defense team. I had to defend the game makers from the hunger games. I had a lot of stress just getting everything down. I was trying to pair up people for different jobs while I was practicing my part of the team. I dealt with the stress by taking breaks, letting other people give ideas, going home and working on it while playing/practicing basketball or any other sport. Technology actually helps me deal with stress because I can find sites that can help me calm down and it also helps me find more information so I don’t have to overthink everything.
Core Competency Reflection
I find it easy to be part of a group: I can find it easy to be a part of a group because when I’m in team sports such as basketball, soccer, volleyball etc. I can easily work in groups because I know I can be able to focus and that I’ll have backup with everything. Teamwork is awesome because when I’m playing a game, I can always rely on my teammates because it’s a team effort and that I can pass to them anytime. We can also hold each other up and encourage one another when we’re down or we lose a game.
I am kind to others, and support others when they need it: I am kind when someone is feeling down. For an example, if someone is feeling down because they either lost or are feeling left out, I like to come over and try to encourage them by saying that they did a great job and that they tried their best. I also like to include a lot of people, if they are shy and they manage to get a ball, I would help them out by standing out of the way giving them a clear path to shoot.
I participate in classroom or group activities that improve the class, school, or community: I like to interact during games because it’s teamwork and I can’t let my team down. I want to show people that they can play too no matter their skill. Helping in activities can lead to a better school where everyone is welcomed in playing sports and we can have a better community when people are working together and playing together no matter the way they are or the way they look.
During my grade nine year, it was really fun to learn about the different things that cent gives. In the DDA class (Drafting, Design, Animation) it was really fun learning about the different apps. My favorite thing in DDA was when we used Blender for animating a bouncy ball and a flapping bird. In math, I thought it would be hard and boring, but I made a friend that I always sat with and we did math together. It was more like doing algebra while drawing a lot. This year I enjoyed doing a mock trial in English class. The mock trial was based off of the Hunger Games and we had to prove that the gamemakers were innocent, I was a lawyer. The challenge I overcame was when we started algebra in math. I didn’t start algebra in grade 8 so it was harder for me, but I overcame that challenge. I learned way more things in guitar 10, I learned how to barre even though my hands are small. I actually worked hard enough that I got top student for guitar, so that was my biggest accomplishment.
This is Khan Academy (No, it wasn’t made from Noah Khan :D) Anyways, this is a good website that I used in grade 6 and I still like learning on it. It’s a free website where their goal is to provide free education for those who need it. Khan Academy helps with math, L.A (English), Science, and Life Skills!! When I was in grade 5, I used it for math and sometimes science. It’s very helpful and my favorite part is that it’s free. (This sounds like an ad)
A educational video
Bill Nye the science guy. I obviously chose him because who wouldn’t. He is super good for science and he’s has fun ways of learning. I loved watching him as a kid, I was very addicted to Science. He has a lot of good science videos like the one I posted on here. Bill has other videos about rocks, tectonic plates, etc. He gets everyone engaged, I loved watching his videos when I was bored or if I needed an educational video that I can trust.
A educational photo
Periodic table (More science, yippee :D) I chose this because it’s useful to have and to know at least some of the elements on here. It shows you all the different types of elements and in the bottom left corner, it shows you if the element is dangerous, radioactive, man made, etc. The only element I remember is hydrogen. It shows you the atomic number, the chemical symbol, chemical name, and the relative atomic mass. This photo is usually found in science classes and labs.
A educational quote
“No great discovery was ever made without a bold guess” – Sir Isaac Newton
Isaac Newton was a scientist (Wow, no way, I wonder how you guessed :D) I like this quote because it helps me to know that I can try anything because you never know if you will be able to do it without doing it. When I was doing English and the mock trial came up, I knew I wouldn’t win because I was on the defense team. But, I knew that I didn’t want to let my team down. But, I did find out that I could be a lawyer in that situation because I have tried.
An example of a time I collaborated with others in guitar class is when I was asked to work with a person when they needed to hand in an assignment and needed to play a duet with someone. I was sitting close by playing random songs because I have done it already. One of the songs I had to duet with a few people was Au Clair De La Lune.
An example of something I have spent a lot of time learning in guitar class was barre chords. At the beginning of the semester, I couldn’t do barre chords because they hurt. But, now I can do barre chord because of the class and my friend.
I used to think playing certain guitar styles or technique was challenging, and now I know it’s possible because of Practice. I kept practicing barre chords and playing songs with them in it and now I can play. I also can play finger picking better and faster due to the other songs we played in class. When we played Nothing Else Matters, I got faster at switching chords and switching finger picking styles.
I think I progressed well throughout the course. I think I did good with some subjects but I still need to work on word problems.
I set a goal to learn how to do negative and positive better than I did in middle school. I reached that goal by the end and I was happy to do it. I never really got homework in middle school because it was pretty simple. Since high school started, I got more homework in math but I did homework every night. When I faced a hard challenge, I was asking for help and tips on how to do it, sometimes I would study how to do it since the textbook tells you step by step.
I definitely improved on exponent laws and rules. I also improved on the negative and positive integers and polynomials. Next year, since we will be needing this more often, I feel like I have a basic understanding of it now.
Which advertising technique did you choose and how did you use that technique to create your poster?
I used the power of Special offers for this poster because headphones are usually expensive or theyâre cheap but donât work good, anyways, I used the special offer technique to catch people interests and make them go like âhmm, 50% on headphones? Wowâ
b. Explain how and why you chose the colours, words, background, etc. that you used to make your advertisement.Â
so, I was kind of thinking about the colours and how they donât need to pop out, because I didnât want people to think like âOh, they really want me to buy their stuffâ making things pop is good, but not always. So, I went for the more casual and neat colour. I added how the headphones would be good for bus rides and I mean it! I went on a bus once and there were so many middle schoolers that I wished I had headphones with me. I called them black panther headphones because #1: I didnât know what to call them and #2: black panthers are quiet and the headphones make it that things around you get more quiet. I used Ai to make the girls on the bottom looking out the window while wearing black headphones. Of course, you can get them all in different colours but I think it makes sense since itâs black panther headphones lol.
c. What do you think others who arenât in your class should know about advertising?
If I should say something about advertisement, it would be to watch out. You never know which advertisement is a scam or if itâs real. Sure, advertisement you find outside is usually real from companyâs and stuff. But, Advertisement online can be sometimes a scam. They can be harmless or actual harm can be done.
Core Competency
One strategy or activity that stimulated my imagination on this project was when I used the ai. I was thinking of what type of product my generation uses. Headphones came to my mind because I see everyone with either headphones or earbuds. I made Ai make the photos of the girls like how I mentioned above.
I used to think how the different ways people make things about advertisement and now I know the different ways because ADL showed me all the different ways and what they do. Like, I always used to wonder how did they get this idea or how did they ever make this? Thatâs what I thought at least.
This was a group project I made with another girl in my class. We have decided to make a mutation animal that has the body of a dog, wings of a hawk, Venom of a snake, camouflages like a chameleon and it grows limbs like a lizard. There’s two different types of this mutation animal but I’m not going to explain it.
Core Competency Reflection
I take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share
I chose this one because I used my time wisely to do the drawing that you see above; I worked in a group with another girl and my part was to draw the mutation animal. It took awhile and I stayed up late, but I did my share and it turned out to be really fun.
I can develop a body of creative work over time.
I chose this one because if I was in Middle school, I wouldn’t spend as much time on this project as I did. But I did get a creative body throughout my middle school life and my first year of High school so far. This project really showed my art skills and I love to express myself through drawings. English has become my favourite subject and it gives me time to show my art.
I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work.
I chose this sentence because when I finally finished the drawing (3am) I was so happy that it turned out amazing. I was so proud of the wings of the dogs and also the teeth! I have a tips for the artists out there. Take breaks and stretch, maybe get some water too, it helps a lot.
I use strategies to help me find peace and I sustain a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
I chose this because, I really need to talk about it. Just how I said that I finished the drawing at 3am, I take breaks a lot. Sometimes taking 5 minute breaks is good enough for me. But, if I’m drawing on my iPad, I would need to take a longer break, like Ten or fifteen minutes. I don’t want to damage my eyes when I draw on my iPad so that’s why I made a habit to take breaks. I also keep myself hydrated all the time so I don’t dysfunction while drawing.
People can be safe online when they use proper websites that are secured. If theyâre on an unstable website, the trail of info they leave can be hacked into and harmed. They can also use VPNâs which are used to protect their info and block hackers from hacking in. Also, did you know, that if youâre on a platform like Instagram, if you donât close the app fully, the app can actually track you? Itâs important that we can stay safe online because who knows that you might be playing with a creepy 40 year old man while playing Minecraft, Roblox, or Fortnite. Also, there is so much cyber bullying out there and sometimes Cyber bullying can lead up to way more complicated things, such as being punished or even suspended in some schools.

Personal/ Social Competency Reflection
My online support network (ex. Teachersâ TEAMS pages, Tech Leadership Edublog, Career Centre web-site, Library web-site, Centennial school web-site, etc) is helpful to me because they help me communicate with my teachers when Iâm sick or away. It also helps me know the schedules and important things coming up.
Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence include making sure Iâm using a proper website that is trusted from others. Also, if it ends in .org or .com, theyâre mostly safe.
I know that my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences, including being able to have a bunch of safety information access online and also not being properly on safe websites and games. so I adjust my actions to find out if Iâm safe and not being stalked or hacked by doing research on the website or game Iâm on.
