I don’t really get stressed a lot luckily, but I do get stressed during group work in academic stuff. I do get stressed while being in sports. For an example, when I was in gym last year in grade 8, I had to go against someone from the basketball team. I realized that I was checking a 6 foot tall guy from the team. Although, I kind of lost at the game, I did have stress knowing that I was trying to keep my team up and going while I was checking the guy. Also, another time, last semester in English, we did a mock trial. I was the team leader and also the main lawyer of the defense team. I had to defend the game makers from the hunger games. I had a lot of stress just getting everything down. I was trying to pair up people for different jobs while I was practicing my part of the team. I dealt with the stress by taking breaks, letting other people give ideas, going home and working on it while playing/practicing basketball or any other sport. Technology actually helps me deal with stress because I can find sites that can help me calm down and it also helps me find more information so I don’t have to overthink everything.
Core Competency Reflection
I find it easy to be part of a group: I can find it easy to be a part of a group because when I’m in team sports such as basketball, soccer, volleyball etc. I can easily work in groups because I know I can be able to focus and that I’ll have backup with everything. Teamwork is awesome because when I’m playing a game, I can always rely on my teammates because it’s a team effort and that I can pass to them anytime. We can also hold each other up and encourage one another when we’re down or we lose a game.
I am kind to others, and support others when they need it: I am kind when someone is feeling down. For an example, if someone is feeling down because they either lost or are feeling left out, I like to come over and try to encourage them by saying that they did a great job and that they tried their best. I also like to include a lot of people, if they are shy and they manage to get a ball, I would help them out by standing out of the way giving them a clear path to shoot.
I participate in classroom or group activities that improve the class, school, or community: I like to interact during games because it’s teamwork and I can’t let my team down. I want to show people that they can play too no matter their skill. Helping in activities can lead to a better school where everyone is welcomed in playing sports and we can have a better community when people are working together and playing together no matter the way they are or the way they look.
