Digital Footprint

Some strategies a youth can do to maintain a positive digital foot-print online is that first they can search themselves up to see what information about you is online and available to other people to see. This could be important if someone is spreading false information about that could effect how people think about you. Another strategy is to set alerts for your name. This means when your name comes up online, you will get a notification. This can be crucial because it helps you track how many times you appear online. Ways a youth should use technology safely is to be careful of what you download because hackers will try to trick you into downloading malware. The hackers will use the malware to steal personal data so don’t download anything for a site you don’t trust. Some harmful aspects of that exist in the use of technology is that the kid can be affect physically, mentally, and socially. A kid can be affected physically because the kid could spend too much time sitting down and playing games instead of doing sports or going outside. A kid could be affected mentally because kids who are engaged in digital media have an increased chance of developing symptoms of ADHD. A kid could be affected socially because if a kid spends too much time gaming or online, they wont spend time talking to other kids.

Personal/Social Competency Reflection

My online support network (ex. Teachers’ TEAMS pages, Tech Leadership Edublog, Career Centre web-site, Library web-site, Centennial school web-site, etc) is helpful to me because they help me learn what I am supposed to do and complete it.

Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence include not spending time on online, but not too much so it is not unhealthy for me.

I make digital ethical choices such as not spreading secrets that are only told to me in order to make the other people feel safe.
