English First Peoples 11 Identity Project: Self Reflection

Curricular Response:

This project shows both my strengths in creativity but weaknesses in drawing. I consider this to be one of the better drawings I’ve done, especially when considering the message and explanation behind the drawing. This drawing depicts an indigenous person, dressed in traditional Metis clothing, equipped with a two spirit badge and traditional beadwork. This person is locked behind the bars that keep them at a societal disadvantage, which are cracking as we move closer and closer towards reconciliation and restitution.
However, this drawings weaknesses come in the form of lack of color and proper proportion. While I believe the red clothing stands out as the most vibrant portion of the drawing, the frame of the drawing could’ve been greatly improved with the colors, same goes for the flags on the cell bars.

Core Competency Reflection

What will be one or two of your top priorities in the coming weeks for these last few assignments we will be doing in EFP 11? Think not only about the finished product of your work, but also about the process you will use or change when you approach these assignments.

My priorities for the last few assignments will be to apply my knowledge and understanding to the assignments, and to keep an open mind when filling them out. I tend to let my own opinions get in the way of my work, which can lead to a lack of comprehension. I will continue to work on this issue, and further understand the concepts we learn in EFP 11.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

I demonstrated core competency by collaborating with my partner and solving problems using critical thinking. I believe this demonstrated my social responsibility because I pulled my weight and didn’t leave my partner to do all the work, we equally did the work that needed to be done. Overall, this lab expanded my knowledge about identifying and testing for acids and bases.

ME Card Core Competency Reflection

Passions

Some of my passions include music, movies, gaming, self improvement, cooking, and helping others. Music is probably my biggest passion as it offers an escape from all the distractions there are in the world. I really enjoy to just sit down, put on some headphones, and play an album in order from start to finish and experience the music.

Values

Some of my values are family, friends, religion, love, hapiness, and holidays. Coming from a Filipino househould, family and religion are my biggest values. I have quite a large family and one thing I have learned is that no matter what, family will always be there for you. Religion is another important value as faith is one of the most powerful thing one can have. Although it sounds a little corny, I believe religion is one of the most beautiful aspects of humanity, as it brings billions together in something that may or may not exist. Happiness is another value and I belive nobody has the right to dictate or criticise what makes other people happy, unless what makes them happy directly affects other peoples well being and happiness.

Future Plans

I’m looking forward to getting my drivers license, graduation, gettinga bacheloric degree/masters degree, starting a family, travelling, and retiring. I want to retire in the Philippines because I would rather be old and surrouned by family than in a retirement home sad and lonely. Travelling is also something I am looking forward to because I haven’t been on very many vacations.

Skills

Some of my top skills include, piano, computer stuff, social skills and weightlifting. My favourite skills are my social skills and weightlifting. I just really enjoy talking to people and making them laugh, and weightlifting is important to me as not only do I improve myself but it keeps my disciplined.

Core Competency Self-Assesment

Artifact

Cell Cycle Stop Motion Video

After learning about the cell cycle in science 9, it was easy to apply my knowledge in the form of a stop motion video. However, I could’ve used a wider variety of materials but I got the assignment done efficiently so I’m not going to complain. I believe I used creative thinking in the making of this project by finding materials around my house and using them in this project. My favourite part about this artifact was the way the nuclear membrane and nucleolus dissapear, I don’t know why, it just is.

English 9 Final Reflection

My Artifact

Mulimodal Story Comic Strip

 Curricular Competencies Reflection

During the creation of this multimodal story I learned different ways to tell and how to convey a meaningful message in a compact package. My goal with this assignment was to tell a story with a basic conflict and resolution while still having a purposeful message. For this assignment, I chose to write a story in a comic strip to make it easier to read. Constructing the comic was time consuming but definitely worth it. I took in ideas for dialogue and what to put in the text boxes from my group mates. I do believe my goal of conveying a message was achieved in this assignment.

Share the experience of communication for your artifact

My groupmates and I discussed ideas for dialogue during class and when we weren’t in class we hopped in a call. The benefit of working in a group was apparent, whenever one of us ran out of ideas there would still be two of us that had ideas. Everyone played their part and the final result definitely shows that.

Scale Factor Project Reflection

Core Competency Reflection

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include working in a group and gather information from my groupmates. While I can work independently I find it easier to work in a group of 2-3 people. Having others around me makes me more productive and it also raises the amount of information that flows throughout the group.

If there is a disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to meet in the middle and find a compromise. Sometimes you wont find a complete agreement and it’s better to just meet in the middle. That way you get both ideas and put them into one.

Some of the ways I work to build and maintain relationships are stay close to whoever you are talking to. Communication is clear and I like establishing the fact that I will be with the person regardless of where I am. I have a very good example of this right now with me and one of my friends. I don’t have much time to hang out with him in school but I always let him know that deep down he is truly one of my best friends.

Health and Wellness Core Competency Reflections

When I need to boost my mood or refocus I listen to music. Music is a great way to help calm me down. Putting on some Kanye, Tyler The Creator, Kendrick Lamar or Frank Ocean really helps soothe my brain.
Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle includes taking a break every now and then. Everyone deserves a break and me, personally, taking a nap afterschool helps relieve stress. It’s a good way to re-energize and take a break from everything.

Advertisement Persuasion Project

My Advertisement

Persuasion and Advertisement Techniques

Persuasion and Advertisement Unit Reflection

  • Considering all of the examples of ads you saw and the one you created, what did you learn about who benefits from advertisement?
I learned that nearly everyone involved in the making of advertisements has some sort of benefit. For example, models can gain exposure, the product or service will generate income, and the production team will work on more projects in the future.
  • Why is the “who” important to remember when you view an advertisement?
When you see an advertisement with someone you hold in high regard, you will feel a stronger obligation to buy into the service or product depicted.
  • Discuss the effectiveness of each form of persuasion: logical, ethical and emotional on an audience
Logical and ethical are the strongest of the persuasion forms while emotional is the weakest. An outstanding example of logical advertising is the price announcement of the iPad years ago in 2010. They first introduced the price of the iPad at $1000, before descending all the way down to $500. The price was never going to be $1000 but the 50% drop makes it look like a better deal. Ethical persuasion can use techniques such and bandwagoning while emotional persuasion relies on the viewers willingness to help.

Overall, this is what I learned about advertisements and persuasion techniques.

Core Competency Reflection

I used to think it was difficult to make a good advertisement but now I know it’s not that difficult if you inform yourself of the different techniques.
When my group was not productive, we brainstormed ideas and maintained a positive attitude in order to get things moving in the right direction.
When there was disagreement within the group, I found it helpful to meet in the middle and find a compromise.
