I believe that the cupcake contest connects to the core competencies. During the making of my cupcakes, me and my partner had to think and create ideas for themes/designs which lead to us having to communicate if we agreed each other’s ideas or not. Me and my partners communications skills were great. We talked about who was going to bring what supplies and during the making we agreed to having certain tasks to make the process go faster.
If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to…
I find it helpful to come up with different ideas, sometimes my partner and I didn’t approve of each other’s ideas so we both came up with different ideas and decide on one of them.
Some things I think about before dividing tasks among group members include…
I usually just decide by fairness, I try to make sure everybody does roughly the same amount of work.
I show that I value feedback from others in my group by…
Trying to listen to what everybody has to say is hard because of all the mixed opinions, I try to acknowledge all feedback I receive. I show I value others feedback by fixing the issue, if my partner or group members disagree with something shown or said in our project, we will all agree on a correction.
I try to include missing voices/ perspectives by…
I like to have a time where everybody expresses how they feel about how the project is going and if they believe there should be changes made. Asking if anybody had any ideas is also a way, I try to include everyone.
One Goal
My goal for the rest of this school year and the next few to come, is to use my time efficiently. Recently I have not been using my class time wisely, I am often talking to my friends instead of doing my work. The slacking leads to me having a lot of homework, which then over piles and I can no longer keep up. As a result, I have created the goal of using my time efficiently. I can achieve this goal by shutting out my friends when it is work time, putting away my phone, and think about what consequences will happen if i decide to not work in class.
When buying a product, it is important to understand that the company is usually the one who benefits. Say an ad says buy one get one free, the company may be losing money but overall, they are still making a bunch of profit.
An easy way to persuade people these days is by using ethical persuasion, with social media selling products is simple. Especially in the beauty industry, little kids will buy anything that an influencer recommends. For example, a popular beauty influencer right now is Katie Fang. Other influencers and kids often buy products in her skincare and makeup routine.
I believe that bandwagon is a good way of advertising, with multiple people wanting to “fit in with the crowd.” using words like “world’s best” is an easy way to convince potential buyers that they will fit in if they have it. As I mentioned in my last little sentence, everybody wants to buy or have what beauty influencers recommend because they want to fit in with them.
Core Competency Reflection
One of the ways I ensured my group was clear on what we were doing was to… communicate what each person was in charge of working on. I made sure to my part and asked my partners if they had finished their parts. If they did not finish, I would encourage them and suggest everybody go into flex to work on it.
When there was disagreement within the group, I found it helpful to… come up with different ideas that everybody liked. Even though my group didn’t really disagree with anything, when coming up with what our product would do, I disagreed with an idea one of my partners had made.
When my group was not productive, we all decided to book flex in order to get things moving in the right direction. Since one of my group members was away there was a period of time where we didn’t work on anything. We had time over the weekend as well, but we all had other projects to work on. After we noticed when the project was due me and my group booked every flex we could together to work on and finish our project.
Is violence justified during a protest or revolution?
A) AI helped me with this project by using its artificial intelligence to answer my questions
B) I rewrote the words of the AI so that they are my own, same message different words used.
C) It depends, I do think that violence could be justified as a last resort. Overall, though using your words over violence is better.
Core Competency Reflection
My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include searching it up online, usually when I have an idea about what a pro might be for using violence. I searched it up to see if maybe some others would agree.
When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I try to talk even though I am usually shy with people I don’t know. I just necessary questions to get the project over with.
This year I enjoyed making new friends, I met a lot of new people this school year and I befriended them. I am glad I did because they make going to school so much better. One thing I haven’t enjoyed this year though is the amount of work and assignments. I am definitely not used to having so many at one time and having to study for multiple tests all at once. I’ve been finding high school difficult, at the start of the year I was very motivated to learn and get good grades but ever since winter break I’ve lost some of my dedication and drive. I am working on trying to keep motivated and keep up with my assignments and get this school year over with. Overall I did enjoy my grade 9 year and I am glad I got to experience it with my friends.
I chose this website because it has helped me with my edublog at the start of the year. When we had to site our work.
A Useful Educational Video
I watched this video one time during math when we were reviewing our fractions. It helped me understand more on what to do when adding mixed fractions.
A Useful Educational Image
I used this photo for an assignment for foods 10. It helped me get completion marks so that is why I decided to use it.
An Inspirational Quote
“You never fail until you stop trying” – Albert Einstein, Florence Griffith Joyner, Thomas Edison.
I decided to pick this quote because it reminds me that you shouldn’t give up. You have to keep trying to succeed.
In the Bannock taco lab, I had to put my communication skills to use as my group and I talked and made decisions about the spices, flavors, and vegetables we wanted to include. This lab was easy for me because I already had experience with cutting, cooking, and making dough. However, my role in this lab was focused on cooking the meat, so I didn’t participate in making the dough. Through this experience, I gained more knowledge in cooking meat and learned the importance of making sure there was no pink left. Moving forward, I am excited to improve my bread making skills and create delicious dough just like my dad.
These pictures show me, and my partner Lauren’s egg drop device named yolk, and my drawing of my 6ft and 9 inches golf ball tower.
Curricular Response
While creating my egg droppers and golf tower I started to understand more what the scientific method process is like. the packages that made me create and include a hypothesis, drawing, prototypes, and conclusion helped me a lot on reminding me what you have to do for the scientific method. Trying to figure out how I wanted to build my tower and egg dropper also made me think more about what would work out better for me. My golf tower worked out well it ended up being 6’9ft but when my group was making a practice tower it ended up much taller because the base was way wider than the top. As for my egg device, I learned that it’s better to make a big parachute rather than try and suffocate your egg in cushioning. Overall, I think I learned a lot from the two labs.
Core Competency Self Assessment and Creative Thinking
I most proud of my golf ball tower because me and my partner got it to be 6’9ft, we also put a lot of thought and effort into what we were creating. I believe we did a good job, even if we didn’t get the most amount of points, we still tried our best.
When me and my partner were having troubles, specifically keeping our gold ball tower up. We decided to take down one of the top pieces of newspaper to make it easier for the golf ball to balance on the top without tipping our whole tower over. As for me and my partners egg dropper some of the taped newspaper parts were unsticking because of the little amount of tape we used, we had a lot of tape left so after building the finished product we taped a piece of paper to the sides to act as a parachute and taped the places that were unsticking to each other.
My experience with the two science labs were great, I learned how to construct a proper tower, that parachutes are better than being capsulated during a fall/drop, how to better my writing for hypothesizes, how to identify a problem, lab safety, and so much more. The most important thing I learned though is how the scientific method works. It starts off with figuring out the problem, creating a hypothesis, making your creation, testing your creation, and then lastly writing a conclusion.
A) I demonstrated that I can create new things when I …
create my own prototypes and build a testing device.
B) I demonstrated that I can build on the ideas of others when I …
Take inspiration from their builds, look online what towers look like, and create something similar to what has already been built before.
C) When trying new things, I expect setbacks and failure and use them to develop my ideas. An example of this from the Scientific Method labs would be …
Testing out my egg dropper device that was covering the egg fully trying to cushion it, then afterwards realizing when people are skydiving, they instead use parachutes to help them fall slower and ease the fall.

The internet is one of the most used inventions in the world, and staying safe on it is important. One of the main things the internet mis used for is social media, it’s hard to make sure your being safe on them. Some steps I really recommend is making all your accounts private, don’t post anything inappropriate, don’t give out sensitive information, and do not click on random links. By taking these steps you should have a pretty safe internet experience, being positive will also help you and others feel like you have a safe space. By being kind to others on the internet you can make others feel better about themselves, have a better mindset, feel accomplished, and feel good about yourself. Even though social media is supposed to be a safe, fun, entertaining space there are a lot of bad things that come with it. For example, cyber bullying, hackers, leaked information, toxicity, and inappropriate content. Stay away from those kinds of things or people by blocking or reporting the content. Stay safe and to be kind to everyone.
Competency Reflection
– Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence include…
not exposing my age, keeping my last name private,
not mentioning my age, keeping my last name out of users, making my accounts private, not commenting anything rude on posts, and trying to limit my screen time.
– By doing… online, I make a positive difference to my peers.
I feel I make a positive difference to my peers when I compliment them on a post and support them by being there virtually like answering their questions or giving them advice. I try my best to make sure others feel good about themselves online.
My online support network (ex. Teachers’ TEAMS pages, Tech Leadership Edublog, Career Centre web-site,
Library web-site, Centennial school web-site, etc) is helpful to me because they…
help me be more organized with my assignments and make them easier for me to do. I can also communicate better with the school and search up helpful resources for me to use when I need. Overall, the online support for students is very helpful and I am very happy to be able to use them.
