PHE 10 AH Reflection

Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle include, focusing on mental health first and foremost, I find that at the end of the day, our brain has full control of what we do to ourselves, and if my mind is not mentally healthy I will either make bad decisions or not be able to make good decisions for myself at all. so mental health comes first, and I find after that its not hard maintaining healthy balance, after I cut time out for what I need to do, I just do whatever my mind feels is right at the moment. weather that is going out side reading a book, or even staying inside with a bunch of junk food, balance is at the end of the day very important.

Core Competency Reflection

I understand that my identity is made of many interconnected elements. identity will never be just one thing, because you will never be able to answer things like who am I in one sentence. identity is in the end up to you, we should decide what those things are but never stress over just one aspect of identity. I can identify and describe my qualities, i chose this one more because its something that I’m working on, describing ones qualities to fill out there identity is definitely something ill need to work on.  I can identify my strengths and identify my potential, i chose this one because I think that I’m very good at identifying and communicating my strengths and weaknesses. I can tell what is important to me and I can explain my values, and i choses this one because always been good at expressing what is important to me and standing by my values.

Linear System Group Assignment

purpose:

my group needed to come up with a linear system, and show how to solve it on a graph and algebraically.

Curricular Response

“Justify your mathematical decisions. Give reasons for your choice of equations and for your choice of algebraic method.”

to create the equations, first, we picked a point on the graph, linear systems have to have a solution that satisfies both equations, so we decided that we would pick the common point first and work both equations around that point, in this we picked (2,7). next we picked the slopes for the line, nothing to complicated, we picked -1/1 or -X, and 3/2. after that we simply started drawing the points on the graph along the slope starting with the point we picked out earlier. to finish off our equation we found where the line crossed the y-intercept to get out constant in the equation. so essentially, we solved our question on the graph, by using the graph to create our question. we chose substitution to solve this question algebraically, since both of the questions we already in y-intercept form this seemed like the most logical choice considering one of the variables were already isolated. then we multiplied it to get rid of the fraction, to make life easier, and just solved everything else from there.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

I ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. my group had great teamwork. everyone took terns listening and asking questions, working together to create answers. every question someone asked about what we were working on was answered. when I asked a question it was always responded to in a respectful manner. our group took time to explain all the questions that we asked each other as well.

Linear and Non-Linear Equations

Linear Equations

Text

Description automatically generated

This is a linear equation. I can tell from the graph because it is a line, linear equations are straight lines going in any directions, some of them are linear functions, this one isn’t however because it has a repeating x value. I can tell from the equation, because, this equation dose not have an exponent higher than one, if it did the line would be curved and then it would not be a linear equation.

This is a linear equation. I can tell from the graph because, it is a straight line, in this case, it is also a linear function, a one-to-one function as well, because this straight line has no repeating x or y values. I can tell from the equation, because there is no exponent greater then 1.

Non-Linear Equations

this is not a linear equation. I can tell from the graph because this is not a straight line, it is curved, however while not a linear equation, it is still a function, because it has no repeating x values. I can tell from the equation, because, while there is no exponents higher then one on the original question, y = (x+1) (x+1) can be rewritten to y = (x+1)^2, in which the question now has an exponent higher then one.

Self-Assessment

  • I explored mathematical ideas using technology when I used Desomos to graph the equations showing the difference between linear and non-linear equations.
  • I analyzed data and used criteria to draw conclusions when I discussed if each of the above graphs were in fact linear or non-linear equations.
  • I justified my conclusions with evidence when I used my knowledge of linear, and non-linear equations to use corresponding graphs, that justified my conclusions about them.

Personal Awareness and Responsibility: How I manage school-related stress.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I…

I am an introvert, but I think when it comes to improving my mood, I always go and talk to my support systems. They always have insight into the way I’m feeling, and especially when I’m stressed over school are a really good way to re-focus myself, calm myself, and boost my mood. I think after a long day of school I really can’t go straight to homework and need to have a good long chat with my mom, and that kind of just helps me unpack emotionally for the day, so I can go upstairs and focus on my homework.

– When I am sad, angry or frustrated about school, doing… helps me be more productive or calm.

My go-to is, go for a walk, sounds and scents calm me down, and I happen to live right next to the Coquitlam river. Which I was trying to portray with the image above. The sound of running water is very calming to me, along with, on a sunny day, basking in the sun is very refreshing. It’s just me and my thoughts, and that solitude allows me to re-center my thinking and breathing. While it doesn’t solve my problems, or my struggle my anxiety, it gets me to a place where I am able to get back to work. I judge this need for walks, by just listening to myself, I recognize that I am feeling a certain way, and if it is not bad, where I can recognize it and deal with it later so I can get the immediate task at hand done, great! However, if it is urgent, then the most important thing is to stop and take care of myself, and everyone is going to have a unique routine to do so, but for me being outside Is one of them.

– I can prevent some school-related stress by …

I try my best to generally stay on top of things, my assignments and homework, all get done productively, and handed in on time or early. I think the only exception to this is when I’m sick, and when I can’t do any work because my brain is just like “absolutely no”. Even then I still review notes from in class, and do as much work as my body, and mental state will allow me to. However, I’m not perfect and I still get anxious about school sometimes, but then again, those times are caused when my workload is not particularly manageable (usually caused by my own accord thought), and I have deadlines to meet. So defiantly, the biggest thing I can do to reduce my stress is make sure I am caught up on all my work.

– When distractions are getting in the way of my work, I can …

Moving to a different location helps a lot. The good old-fashioned desk in my room is where I typically get most of my work done, because I do not work well in other spaces, my brain gets distracted by the new surroundings. However, my room gets particularly stuffy sometimes, it is also not big, and not always clean, so, getting work done in that type of environment, especially when I do not have the time or energy to clean it, is hard. So, while the change of scenery does not always allow me to get my most productive work done, it still allows me to get my work done, and for someone with adhd where, dopamine does not always allow productiveness for the day, just getting work done, is a big step, which Is really the most important thing.

Another thing, for me, is that I am specifically sensitive to audio, so anything like background noises, construction, a dishwasher running, or a clock ticking, all those things can really make me lose focus. So, I have specific study playlists, so that I will not lose focus from lyrics, or catchy tunes, I also own a pair of noise cancelling headphones, that really help tremendously.

our utopian city (capitol)

communication and reflection

This project is about using values we believe in to create a world with said values. Take a thing like community, if that was one of your values, you could put something like a community center or a park in your city. For our project we used city creator, to build our city. the three of us worked well together, we were already friends, so it was easy to get along. We all brainstormed for the city values and helped create and design our city. We all shared our opinions and gave feedback to each other, we all took that feedback and worked together to create our city. In our group me and another member were responsible for designing the town, we worked together to create a town the reflected the values we chose. Another member wrote out the values explaining what we wall thought of together. I really liked working with my group, we all got along, and we were efficient with our time together. They were an easy group to work with and I enjoyed our time working together. We didn’t face any problems and any decision we made we made it together and discussed it thoroughly. I am very satisfied with the final product, it’s very pretty and I think the project reflects all our work together as a group. There is not anything I would change for next time because we all work well together.

geography project, what’s the world around town

reflection.

Was I able to identify how the geography impact the town / city with ease? How was I able to find how the physical geography impacted these areas? yes, it was fairy easy. I’ve been there before, so it was easy to find the things I wanted to do because I had an idea already.

b. How did the technology personally affect my learning? What were the pros and cons of using maphub.com? Be detailed in your response here. it was easy because, I had access to the internet, and I looked up things that I didn’t already know. map hub was easy because their was a video explaining things so I never got confused. I think this project would have been a lot harder if I had done it by hand.

c. Were you satisfied with the result of your design and solutions? yes I think it turned out well, I got to chose things, so I could be picky about stuff, and overall I think that it turned out well.

d. How would you refine your assignment in the future? I would pick places that are more in a circle so the lines aren’t, over lapping as much and try to keep the points closer together, but for now, I really wanted to include some points so I think that will just have to suffer.
