Communication: French 9
I showed growth in French 9 this year, and this class helped me show growth in my Communication Core Competency and my French Curricular Competency. One way I showed communication and collaboration skills is when we did “Quizlets” in teams. Doing this required me to practice collaboration skills because I had to communicate with my teammates and work together so we got the correct answers. Using “Quizlet” is a great way to improve your communication skills with different people because you have to talk and support each other for this to work. Examples of where I can communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in group work and competitive teamwork, and I can ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. Participating in “Quizlets” have helped me become an active and supportive listener, as well as being able to communicate clearly to classmates that I have not talked to before.

Personal/Social: Photography 10
When I am sad, angry or frustrated, doing photography helps me be more productive or calm. During my photography class, different projects helped me show growth in my Personal/Social Core Competency and my Photography Curricular Competency. One specific project that I did was an “Indigenous Research Project”. This is when I looked into an Indigenous photographer and took a photo that was inspired by them. My photographer has a strong connection to the land, and she likes to express herself by spending time outside with nature. I showed growth in my personal connection with nature and the outdoors and took my own photo showing my relationship with Centennial school and the nature that surrounds it.
My photo represents my personal and social life at Centennial school, and it represents my growth with personal awareness and social responsibility. It describes how I express myself and what my personal identity is. During photography class, I learned that I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy, and that I can take pride in my work and myself.

Thinking: English 9
When presenting my Book Report for English, I showed growth in my Thinking Core Competency and my English Curricular Competency. This presentation allowed me to share my ideas and knowledge about the book with my classmates, and it showed that I can reflect on my thinking.
The book that I picked to read is called “Out of My Mind” and it was written by Sharon M Draper. This book is about a girl with Cerebral Palsy, which means she cannot walk or talk, and the book shows her perspective of the story. An example of an idea I developed that was new to my peers is what other people’s lives are like living with a disability. From sharing this Book Report, I taught others that language is very powerful, and that it allows everyone to express themselves and show a connection to people around them.
After reading and presenting this book, I have shown growth in my Thinking Core Competency because I take more time to think and learn from different stories and experiences. Also, this project allowed me to grow my Creative and Critical thinking skills by creating an engaging PowerPoint presentation and being able to gather important points and information.

you totally deserve this award 🙂
