Out of My Mind: My Movie

My Movie

Plot, Character, Setting and Mood

Explain how you figured out what your Avatar would look like:

I was able to create an avatar for my main character because I had a clear description from the book of what she looked like. The book described almost everything about her physical appearance, and then the whole book was about her first person perspective in her head.

How did you choose the plot points?

I figured out the main points in my book by seeing what events matched each point like: Initiating incident, rising action, climax and denouement. Also, I looked at what parts of the book were the most important and made a big impact in the book. An example is when Melody got to be apart of real classes, and where she interacted with new classmates. I picked this for initiating incident because this really fit best, as it was what really the event that lead up to the climax.

Explain how you figured out the setting in your story. Why is the setting significant to the story?

I figured out the setting pretty quickly because the “quote” that I used was near the beginning of the book. This was very important to find out because the whole book was basically at the school, which is a big part in Melody’s life and learning experience.

Explain what the word mood means and how/why you picked the song that you picked?

For me, “mood” is the way that you are feeling, and it is something that you can express with emotion. When choosing the song for my PowerPoint, I wanted it to match the emotion of my book. Something not too dramatic as it is not a horror book, and something that is not too sad. I wanted something calm and happy, which represents Melody’s personality and attitude the entire book. When people listen to the music and watch my PowerPoint, I want them to feel emotion and connect to the slides.

Competency Reflection

Choose and write 3 of the prompts:

I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is:

Before I start an assignment, I make sure I read over the criteria and make a note of everything I need to include in my work. Also, I read through everything I need to do to reach “proficiency”, and then I think of ways where I can “extend”. I can show evidence of this because when I do long PowerPoints or big posters, I tend to forget small sections in the criteria. Reading the criteria sheet when you finish really helps because you can sometimes catch small things missing before you hand in your project.

An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is:

I can really connect to this sentence, because it is something I do when I am doing groupwork. Whenever the teacher tells me to get in a group and brainstorm ideas, my group and I work together to build upon each others ideas. Also, I feel like every class does this because when the teacher asks a question, a bunch of people contribute and pitch in different ideas.

I appreciate feedback on… and prefer it comes in the form of:

I absolutely appreciate feedback on my work, especially from my teachers because it lets me know how I can do even better, and not make the same mistakes again. However, I prefer it comes in the form of positive feedback, and just letting me know of things I could change: Instead of hearing all my “bad mistakes” and things “I did wrong”. I also like to hear my feedback in private, and it makes me uncomfortable when my “mistakes” are shared with the class. If somebody tells me feedback, I will make sure that I listen to it.

Chemistry Unit Core Competency Reflection

Artifact:

This artifact is a picture of the “Flame Lab” that I completed during the chemistry unit. During this lab, we tested different elements to see what reaction they would have with the flame. We did this by dropping some of the liquid element onto a Q-tip, and then we put the Q-tip in the flame. Then, we could see the different reactions by seeing what colour the flame became.

Reflection:

The Chemistry lab/assignment that I am most proud of would be the flame lab. I am most proud of this lab because it helped me gain more knowledge with different elements and reactions.

An area where I identity that I need growth and improvement would be having a greater understanding of all the different concepts (formulas and vocabulary). Sometimes I find that I have trouble grasping the new concepts and showing my understanding. One example of how I can improve in this area would be reviewing all my notes, and going over each area in Chemistry so I understand. Another way I can improve would be interacting with different labs, so I can see explanations about why things happen in science.

During this unit and especially during this lab, I demonstrated a strength in communication and collaboration. I showed my strength in communication during this unit because I communicated when I needed help better understanding a concept. I did this by asking my peers, and then going to my teacher and asking for an explanation or if I am on the right track. Also, I can connect these core competencies to my artifact, because I showed communication and collaboration during the “Flame Lab”. I demonstrated this because my partner and I worked well together, and we decided which who should do which role. By doing this, we supported each other to get the correct results during the lab.

French 9 Reflection

After this semester, I feel like I have definitely improved my knowledge in the French language. I have definitely improved with oral speaking, and I think that my pronunciation and fluency has gotten way better. What I find challenging is understanding how to have the correct grammar in French and what verbs to use when talking about different things.

If I had to pick something that I am most proud of, I would definitely pick my “Family Tree Project”. I think this project turned out well because I made sure I had proper time management, and I made sure I was reading the criteria. Also, the presentation portion went well because I practiced and made sure I was prepared.

In this project, I used some core competencies to help me with my success. Firstly, I used communication because I told my parents what I needed for my project. In this case, I needed a large piece of cardboard, and green spray paint. The second core competency I used was creative thinking because it helped me think of something “out of the box” and creative.

Core Competencies- Photography 10

Communication:

This photo demonstrates communication because it shows how I communicated with Amalie to get the perfect photo. By communicating, we were able to tell each other what the other person had to do for the photo to work. Some examples of this was “can you jump higher” or “are you ready for me to jump?”. Communication was very important for this specific photo, because the main part of this photo involves freezing the action when it is in movement. At first, it was challenging to find the correct settings, but Amalie and I worked together to find the correct “shutter speed” and “F Stop”. However, communication isn’t just about talking with each other, and telling each other what to do. Amalie and I communicated well because we communicated respectfully and efficiently.

Scale Factor Project Reflection

Core Competency Reflection

Some of the ways I work to build and maintain relationships are being respectful to everybody in the classroom, as well as when I am working with others in a group project. I include others into my group, and I make sure we all collaborate well.

One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to check in regularly, and work together when things get challenging. When you are working in a group, it is important that you collaborate and communicate, rather than doing your job independently.

I appreciate feedback on my work and especially projects, but I prefer it comes in the form of positive feedback, where the person is trying to help me improve, and not make me feel bad about my work.

“When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I…” My goal is to learn how to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, because sometimes this could be a little bit of a struggle for me. I prefer working with people I do know, because it is more comfortable and I work better with my friends. However, I think this is a good goal for me because I will need to be able to communicate and work with other people moving forward in life.

Favourite Recipe

Omelet:

Making and Sharing Reflection

In order to make this Omelet, there were many different steps that I had to go through to get to the final product. Firstly, I had to read my recipe and go over the different steps and method, and then I watched Ms. Bolli demo the recipe, so I would know what to do for the next day when I make the lab. The day after, I came into class and completed that six things that you have to do before you start a lab. These six things are, phone away, hair tied back, sleeves pulled up, recipe out of duotang, apron on, and then you wash your hands and start reading your recipe. When starting this recipe, you have to do your Mise en Place, which means getting all your equipment out, and then going up to the demo table to get your ingredients. The needed equipment for this recipe are two custard cups, a grater, a knife, a frying pan, a spatula or plastic flipper, a fork, a plate with cutlery, a cutting board and a lid. Once your mise en place is completed, you can continue the steps of your recipe, cleaning up as you go. When I finished making this Omelet, I enjoyed this by myself because this was an individual lab, meaning that everyone made their own Omelet. After enjoying this Omelet, I completed my reflection about it on my food folio, sharing my feedback with Ms. Bolli. From making this recipe, I can show that I can work independently, but also collaborate with my partner because we had to take turns sharing the kitchen.

Core Competency Reflection

Communication Prompt: As an active listener, I notice that I can communicate better with others, and understand my own task better if I listen to what others are saying.

Collaboration Prompt: One of the ways I insure my group is clear on the common purpose is to check in regularly, and make sure they understand what to do. For an example, when filling out the recipe page, I make sure they have all the correct answers so they know what to do when making the recipe.

Goal: One goal that I have that I have for myself moving forward is to make sure I am collaborating and working well with my group members, and making sure that we put all our effort into the lab.

One goal that I have for myself moving forward is to make sure I am collaborating well with my group, and making sure that we can all put the same amount of effort into the labs we do, while still making sure that we come to an agreement on things without arguing.

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I… can make sure that everyone is included and that we work collaboratively with each other, putting our differences aside. I am working on this goal because when I get put with somebody in the group that I do not know, it becomes awkward, and I think we could be better as a group if we work collaboratively. Sometimes it is challenging to work with others you have never met before, who have come from a different school or different country, and can be a completely different grade level. However, I can achieve this goal by making sure everyone knows each others name, and that we make sure everyone is on task, and doing their own job that benefits the group as a whole.
