Music Monday “LAND” Map Assignment: Self- Assessment

 Curricular Response

On my map assignment, I choose the quote “how do you put a price on nature” and the god bless America sign to visually represent it. I chose that quote because of the current system set in place. In today’s society Americans take pride in capitalizing off of stolen land from the ingenuous. I choose the god bless America sign to symbolize how certain Americans use God to justify their actions.

 Core Competency Self-Assessment

My values informed my decisions in this assignment because I believe that people should be able to live on their own land without it being stolen or being taken advantage of. I based the images and words off of certain things that are currently in the news to do with America. I found it easy. I was a bit confused at the start where to put certain pictures, but that was my only challenge.

English First Peoples 11 Identity Project: Self Reflection

Curricular Response:

I give descriptive sentences that aren’t run on but still have a decent amount of information. I don’t trail on with paragraphs. I only provide what is necessary to say in my work, to not bore the reader or confuse them. I need to work on my topic transitions between paragraphs. As well as learning that just because connecting two topics makes sense to me, it doesn’t mean it’ll make sense to the reader.

Core Competency Self-Reflection: “What is Completing Assignments Like For You?”

My troubles completing EFP work aren’t because of the subject matter. I write books and poetry outside of class, so I understand the work well. I do however have trouble getting started with my work, which often sets me back. I lack the motivation to sit down and genuinely work hard; this can be for a number of reasons. Once I get into an assignment, I don’t have any issues finishing it because I’m naturally good at English; I just get stuck.

CPR Reflection

My Learning of CPR

What Was Something You Learned That You Didn’t Know or Consider Before?

I didn’t know the proper way to do CPR before this course because I’ve never been taught how before. I also now know how to prevent heart problems in the future.

What is a key takeaway from the Theory or Practical CPR unit?

The main thing I got from the CPR unit is how to safely preform CPR on somebody who needs it. This course also taught helpful eating, exercise and lifestyle.

How does this unit connect to the nutrition unit learned previously?

This class taught me the importance of clean eating to protect your body, mind and heart. Similar ideas were discussed in the nutrition unit.

Core Competency Reflection Prompts

In this unit, I am proud that I accomplished proper chest compressions while doing CPR by continuing to practice until I got it right.

One lesson that stimulated my thinking about the importance of CPR was by imagining I was saving the life of somebody that I knew personally.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I take a walk to calm down and come back to class once I’ve self-regulated.

Core Competency Self Assessment

Communication

People Talking Clip Art at Clker.com - vector clip art online, royalty free & public domain

Communication is always important while working in a group setting, especially during a lab where chemicals are being used. My group and I made sure to talk with one another and make sure we were doing the correct step or putting in the right liquids. When a dropper spilled we all communicated with each other to get the mess cleaned up fast, but also safely. We could’ve moved faster as a group with our lab progress, but eventually we got the hang of things.

Sandwich Reflection

If offered by him, would you eat a part of Anpanman’s head? Why??

If I was offered a bite of Ampanman’s head, I would accept. It says on his Wiki page that his head is made out of ampam, a Japanese bread filled with bean paste, I’ve had it before and I liked it a lot. Also, eating his head wouldn’t even damage him permanently since when his head gets injured he can just grow a new one.

What is the most creative meal you have made or had? Would it taste good in sandwich form??

I don’t know what the most creative meal I’ve ever had was. I tried a bite of escargot once. It was not good. I don’t think putting it in a sando would make it taste any better.

Japanese Sandos

Japanese sandwiches or “sandos” are a snack made with two slices of fluffy milk bread with sweet fillings like fruit and whipped cream; or savoury fillings like pork, or egg salad. Japanese sandos are very different compared to Canadian sandwiches which have thinner slices of brown or white bread with mayo or mustard and meat and/or cheese. In Western countries, it’s normal for sandwiches to be a savoury lunchtime “meal”, whereas, in Japan, sandwiches can be sweet or savoury. I would love to try a fruit sando since they seem pretty good, and you can’t exactly go wrong with bread and fruit. Although they do have interesting flavour combinations that I would like to try, I don’t find Japanese sandwiches necessarily “creative”. It’s just the take Japanese culture has on sandwiches.

Data and Solutions

Rather than investing in stocks, I chose a GIC to achieve my down payment because I needed my investment to be guaranteed. I invested $80,000 into a three-year 4.2% GIC. After I did my calculations in Excel, this gave me $10,509,29. When I combined my original investment with the ten grand I saved per year. In the end, I achieved 15% of the purchase price of $800,000 that I had set for myself. The total amount I saved came out to $120,509.29.

Core Competency Reflection

If there’s a disagreement in my group, I find it helpful to hear both sides of the story. Once everyone listens, we all come to a compromise.

One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is going for a walk wearing my headphones. This helps me calm down and reflect on what we’re doing in class.

I respectfully advocate for my needs by talking to a teacher. If it’s something private or personal, I’ll email them beforehand.

I know the group is not working well together when I see people visibly uncomfortable. Also, when people are talking over one another or not talking at all.

Group Review

I found working with my group refreshing since I prefer working with kids rather than adults.

I contributed to the group by adding to discussions. My group members contributed to my learning by clarifying and answering my questions.

I did propose solutions to the group, and so did my group members we ended up using all of them. My group took everyone’s ideas and combined them, so everybody would get a say.

I would say I would give myself a three out of four because sometimes I would slack off, but most of the time I was working with my group.

Yokai Assignment

Which Yokai Did You Pick And Why?

I picked the Keukegen. I chose this Yokai because it reminded me of a Sesame Street character design, it was my favourite show as a kid.

Name Some Characteristics And Provide A Background History/Summary On Your Yokai.

The Keukegen is a Yokai who lives in dark places such as old homes, abandoned gardens, or underneath floorboards. The Keukegen is the size of a small dog and has long black or grey hair, they do not make good pets.

Do You Think Japanese Yokai Differ From Western Monsters And Mythical Creatures?

I think there’s a big difference between the two types of creatures, Japanese Yokai seems to have an origin story and a meaning for their creation. Whether Western monsters are seen as silly, with no meaningful plot or storyline.

Do You Believe In Yokai, Monsters, Ghosts, Or Mythical Creatures? Why Or Why Not?

I do believe in spirits even though I don’t think there’s an afterlife. My house is very old, so sometimes I experience paranormal activity. I’ve had a lot of unexplainable things happen to me over the years.

Online Safety: My Take

The internet can be an amazing place if you know what you’re doing. That’s why internet safety is so important nowadays. If you’re safe online, you can have a pleasant experience, such as joining positive communities and connecting with your friends outside of school. If you don’t know how to be careful on the internet, you can be exposed to scams, unsafe people and much more. Unsafe activities could include talking to people much older than you with bad intentions, accidentally falling for false links, or getting sucked into media expectations. These things can cause a lot of anxiety and depression for anyone affected. Fortunately, there are ways you can be safe online; such as keeping private information to yourself, not sharing passwords, and making sure to talk to people you only know personally. If you take these steps and always make sure to think before you do, your time online will be well spent and enjoyed.

I spend a fair amount of time on the internet and these are steps I take to stay safe. I will make sure I am feeling positive before I share something online and I look at stuff that will only insure I feel better, instead of worse. I only talk to people I know on the internet and take the extra step to confirm I am on a safe website. School systems and my parents have taught me these lessons as I’ve grown up. They’ve helped me a lot. Please take the time to be careful on the internet, you’ll thank yourself for it in the future.

Core Competencies

I appreciate feedback on my assignments and prefer it comes in the form of suggestions on what to improve on.

I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is when I ask my peers for input on my work, so I can know for sure what I’ve written makes sense to others.

I have valuable ideas to share about my work habits and do so by giving people advice on something they’re struggling with.

Independent Children

How Old Were You When You Started Doing Chores?

I did things to help around the house at about four years old. I did things such as helping bake, cleaning the couches and sweeping.

Do You Do Chores?

The chores I do are more difficult than what I used to do when I was younger, but I still do work around the house quite often.

Do You Think That Children Should Grow Up With Japanese Ideals Of Independence?

I think children should grow up with some of these ideals in mind. The only thing I’d change is that the kids wait a small bit longer before going outside on their own. Since there are still bad people in the world who might hurt them.

When Did You First Use Transit By Yourself, Go Somewhere On Your Own, Or Go To School By Yourself?

I have yet to do any of these things. My mom can be very anxious, especially with the current state of the world, but I’m sure as I get older, I’ll be able to go out and do more.
