Career Project

Curricular Reflection

In this project, I have described my career and life goals, personal growth, and initial planning for my preferred career-life pathway. I have done this by picking a career and making a plan to get there. Planning this took lots of effort and time researching info about the career, as well as post-secondary institutions and programs. I also applied this to my current life by learning about things like course requirements and how to work toward my future right now. I also made a ‘plan B’ job incase things don’t work out with the main plan.

Core Competency Reflection

I demonstrated that I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear organized way in this project by doing a PowerPoint presentation using pictures words, and a speech. I’ve also demonstrated that I deliberately learn things and that new ideas pop into my head by using websites like myBlueprint to discover what job I want to do as well as find alternative jobs to do. I can analyze evidence to make judgements and I have shown this by choosing what career to do. I had to weigh the options like salary, enjoyment, and difficulty of path to choose the career that fit me best. I have showed that I can tell the difference between fact and opinion by looking at the facts of how the job works and how to get there, as well as peoples opinions on the job and how it works. I considered all of these and how peoples opinions work with mine when considering what career to choose.

One goal I have for myself going forward is this I can statement:

I persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals and learning behavior.

In this project, I struggled with persevering and I procrastinated for much of the duration of the project. Moving forward, I would like to reduce time spent procrastinating and not working.

Physics Unit Core Competency Reflection

A picture of the assignment and data recorded

In the ‘Physics Fun’ lab, our whole group had an equal role. We took turns doing all the different roles and all played an equal part. I demonstrated the collaboration core competency during this lab. I communicated with my group members on what we should do next and how to do it and who fills what role. I can improve in the Critical & Reflective Thinking core competency. I could have improved because I rushed my calculations at the end and could easily have made mistakes from going too fast. I also didn’t check over my answers at the end to ensure they were correct.

Social Studies 10: Final Reflection

Semester Reflection

Social Studies 10: Reflection

This semester, I completed an independent inquiry project about Adolf Hitler and what factors led to his popularity. I collected information from various primary and non-primary sources and various sub-topics and I compiled them all into one final essay. I combined research on psychology, authoritarian ideology, and German history and life in the 1920s and 30s. I also practiced using research skills. One of the best pieces of evidence I used for this project was the official Nazi Party platform that I found on the Holocaust Encyclopedia, helping me learn the ideas Hitler stated to gain trust and political power. This topic is relevant in 2025 and it will always be relevant, as long as society is under threat from demagogues and people using their power for bad. Learning about Hitler can help us see the signs of another leader being a bad leader.

Core Competency Relection

I look for, develop, and weigh different perspectives and pieces of evidence, as demonstrated in my inquiry project where I had to compile information from various sources, considering each one in factors like accuracy and relevance, into one final essay providing a detailed write-up about the topic.

I can examine and evaluate to improve my own work; evidence of that is when I wrote my final essay for my inquiry project and had to spend much time reflecting and rewriting my project until it was a final product that I was proud of and could turn in.

I respectfully advocate for my needs by raising my hand and asking the teacher questions when I am unsure of what to do.

Math Self Assessment

By helping with group work in the classroom, I make a positive difference to my peers. I do this by helping people answer questions and helping them understand the concepts by teaching them, while they can also help me if I need help.

When I am sad, angry, or frustrated, taking a break to relax and decompress helps me be more productive or calm. Sometimes, I can also take a break by going for a walk to refill my water bottle or go to the bathroom. This gives me time to clear my mind and not have to think about anything so I can approach the problem with a good mindset.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I also like to take a break for similar reasons. This helps me come back to the problem with more energy and focus so I can approach the problem accordingly rather than just staying and trying without any energy leading to there being more mistakes.

An example of something I have spent a lot of time learning about is parabolas and graphing them and solving equations with them. There have been three units on them, as well as having to review them for the math final, which means I am very familiar with them and their uses.

CPR Reflection

My Learning of CPR

CPR Reflection

I learned how to preform CPR and how to react to an emergency situation. My key takeaway is how important it is to stay calm in an emergency and how helpful it is to have a team of people with you. This connects to the nutrition unit learned previously as having good nutrition and diet is one of the major ways to reduce the risk of heart attacks or strokes.

Core Competency Reflection

Examples of where I communicated clearly and purposefully can be seen when I was doing the practical CPR test and I had to pretend to communicate with a partner to assess the situation. Proper communication in this test was important as it represents a life or death situation and it’s important to know what is happening.

In this unit, I am proud of my accomplishment of learning proper CPR techniques. It means I will be able save someone’s life if ever necessary.

Learning CPR relates and is important to my life heavily. Learning CPR means I can preform CPR on anyone who needs it in an emergency and save their life.

Persuasion and Advertisement Unit Reflection

· Why is it important to remember who benefits from the advertisement when you view an advertisement?

It is important to remember who benefits from the advertisement so that we don’t make impulse decisions about buying products. Companies will never give you something if it means they lose money, so if it seems like they will, that means there’s more to it than it initially seems.

· Choose one form of persuasion and explain why it is effective in persuading you/an audience: logical, ethical, emotional

Emotional persuasion works because human brains are very easily tricked by simple things and will make people feel like they NEED to buy something, and it’s very hard to un-convince someone when they are skillfully emotionally persuaded.

· Choose an advertising technique and explain why it is effective in selling a product.

Testimonial or plain folk advertisement techniques are effective because they are relatable. It feels more like it’s your friend earnestly recommending a product to you rather than a business trying to sell you someone.

Core Competency Reflection

· I showed others that I truly valued their conributions by…

  • Including their contributions in the project.
  • Listening to what they were saying.
  • Making sure I heard their opinion, even if they didn’t speak up.

· Some things I thought about when dividing tasks among my group members were:

  • Who had what skills and tools, so people would work on things they were good at.
  • Who wanted to do what task
  • The remaining tasks would be divided so everyone has the same workload.

· I knew my group is working well together when I saw:

  • Discussion that was even, not one person dominating the conversation.
  • People disagreeing with each other, but still resolving the conflict and deciding upon an idea.
  • Everyone generating good ideas and building off one another

My Project

Collaborating Core Competency Reflection

Some things I think about before dividing tasks among group members include are: (1) making sure the work is divided evenly, and (2) making sure the work plays to peoples strengths. I know the group is working well together when I see people collaborating and listening to each other’s ideas, and good discussion where everyone plays an equal part. If the group is not productive, we can move to a different, quieter space to get things moving in the right direction. I show others that I truly value their contributions by listening to them and including their ideas in the final project, or even if I don’t agree with them, telling them why I don’t agree instead of dismissing them.

One goal I have for myself going forward is being less ‘bossy’ and listening to my group members’ ideas. I can achieve this by remembering to ask my partners what they think of an idea instead of just putting it in.

AI mainly assisted me by helping me find sources and a summary of what they say. I didn’t use what the AI said as my argument, I just used it to find a basic summary of a few sources, and then used it to find sources.

Because I didn’t use what the AI said in my project, I only used what it said to see what kind of information I would get from a source. I didn’t ever copy and paste or just reword what it said and put it in my project.

I agree with the position I argued but only in rare situations. I think the use of violence should be an absolute last resort in a revolution and only when the situation is dire, when people’s basic rights are being damaged.

2 of the next prompts

  • My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include using Perplexity AI to help me find sources, then reading the sources to see what they say.
  • I compile and synthesize information to draw reasoned conclusions, such as when I looked at all of my sources to see what arguments could be made, and I thought of some of my own arguments and compiled that all into one script that I could read out.

Blender Buildings Scene

I demonstrated the communication core competency by asking questions when I needed help and by listening to the teacher. I demonstrated the personal/social core competency by persevering when the project was difficult. Finally, I demonstrated the thinking core competency by forming ideas to make my project, reflecting on my project so far and how I could improve on it, and by analyzing my project to see where its strengths and weaknesses were.
