During this lab, I had to use my communication skills to ask questions and give instructions. When doing group activities, especially working with acids and bases, you have to communicate with your partner about what you’re doing. I asked about which acid or base i should put next and I asked to make sure if i had the right liquid. When you communicate, it helps you and your group member(s) and you understand whats going on.
From listening to John Henderson, I feel like I could understand and get a feel of what actually happened because I had it directly told to me by someone who experienced it. The way he told his story,’ from him being really young, and staying at the residential school for eight years made it seem more real. I think it really relates to Rita Joe’s poem, ”I Lost My Talk”, because in the poem she describes what loosing her language was like; so that connects to all of the residential school victims’ experience. It also related to John’s experience at residential school, because he talked about how he didn’t know any english and all of the people that ran the school only spoke english, and they tried to take their language away from him and the other kids.
I am very passionate about dance. It has become one of the main events of my life since I was about 8 years old. I really enjoy practicing doing makeup. I find it very therapeutic just to try out different looks and techniques. Shopping has become one of my favourite hobbies, mainly shopping for clothes. Ive loved clothes and making outfits since I was really young.
Future Plans
In the future, I want to continue dancing and maybe even get into a really good dance school. I also really want to become a model. Becoming a model is usually what think of when someone asks ”What do you want to be when you’re older?”. Being in a heathy relationship is really important to me, so in my future, i really hope that becomes a part of my life.
Values
I really value my family and my friends. Without them, I would probably be very lonely, and thats something that I fear for my future. So I really hope that they stick around for as long as possible. I also value kindness and trust. These two traits are really important in a person because you want someone who is really nice to you, and with kindness comes trust, and thats really important.
Skills
One of my main and favourite skills and dancing and flexibility. Ive been working on becoming flexible when I was just 6 years old when I decided to take gymnastics. I like showing off the tricks Ive been working on because I like seeing people reaction. Everyone is always so shocked or even scared that I’ll injure myself. I also think I’m good at taking pictures. I really enjoy taking pictures wherever I go because I like documenting my life and sometimes sharing it on social media.
Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in working in group projects. This is important because you must communicate with your peers effectively because its their project to and everyone has to agree on what you’re going to do, and everyone has to know what’s going on. You would also see me doing this in class when answering questions. Answering questions in class is important because it lets the teacher know that you know what’s going on.
One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to ask if everyone is on the same page. When you work with a group of people, you must make sure that everyone knows what is going on with the project, what everyone’s job is and how everything is going to work. Once and a while, its good to check in on everyone and see where they’re at and make sure they’re understanding.
I know the group is working well together when I hear/ see them communicating with each other. Wether it be sharing ideas or answering questions, it’s good to see group members helping each other out. Also it’s good to see people doing things that are on task and doing what they’re supposed to be doing because it can be really frustrating when people in your group aren’t doing their part and you’re left doing it alone. So it’s really helpful when everyone helps out.
Something I think I’m good at, and want to continue is dancing. I’ve been training in dance since I was about 8 years old. My strongest and favourite style of dance is acro. If you’re unfamiliar with acro, it consists of flexibility, tumbling, and partner lifts. I usually do a lot of the flexibility because I am not the greatest tumbler. I try to work on my flexibility as much as I can, but since I do it so often, it really takes a toll on my body, causing me to always be injured. However I want to continue doing this for as long as i can!
Describe something you really liked in the work you did. What made it special to you?
I really like the work that I did in textiles 9, last semester. The main projects I made were a skirt, a sweatshirt, and a skirt made from old jeans. These are special to me because I’ve always loved clothing and making things, and having a class where you do both of those things was really fun! I would definitely take this class again.
How have your experiences, family history, heritage and/or peers helped shape who you are today?
Most of my personality comes from my friends and family since those are the people that I am around the most. In addition, I get a lot of inspiration for makeup and clothing from social media because I really like seeing what the latest trends are and what trends are coming back. I also get inspiration from people I see in person! I’m not very educated about any of my family history, so I can’t say I’m influenced by them.
How do you make good decisions? What influences your decisions?
Before making decisions, I think about how it could effect me or possibly others in the future. An example that happens quite often would be me not being able to decide if I should buy a clothing item or not. Some of the questions I ask myself in the moment would be something along the lines of “Will I wear it often?”, “Is it worth the price?”, “Is it easy to style”, “Do I already have something similar?”, “Will I still like it after a while?”. Most of the time, I think I make good decisions that make sense to me.
What makes you unique?
Something that makes me unique is I am a hybrid. I am I half Vietnamese and half Canadian. My dad is Vietnamese, and my mom is Canadian. Another thing that makes me unique is something I had stated earlier; I am a lot more flexible than your average person. Some of my friends even ask “Are you even human?” Or “Do you have a spine?”. Yes, I am in fact a human, and I do have a spine, even though sometimes it may not look like it.
I know that my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences, including sharing what I love to do with the internet. For example, I almost always post pictures of cool tricks I’ve learned from dance. I post these to show my friends or to inspire others. I like to show off what I can do because maybe one day, I be hired into a dance company from them seeing my posts. Some negatives being that people can save and edit these pictures or videos in a negative way, and use them against me. Some may even leave hate comments, which don’t affect me too much, but it could definitely harm others who receive them. So, I adjust my actions to carefully looking over my posts to make sure that is exactly what I want to be seen by the internet.
Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence include avoiding harmful and offensive posts and not sharing too much personal information. Since I play online games, I and many others are exposed to real people. In most of these games, you can interact and talk to real people. Talking to strangers behind a screen is way less intimidating than talking to strangers face to face; therefore people can become really comfortable with this and share a little too much than what they’re supposed to. I’ve had access to this for a really long time, so I have grown to learn what and what not to say online. For example, if you tell someone that you have to get offline, most times it’s best not to share why. An example would be “I have to go to school”. This would give that person a lot more information than you would think; like, approximately what time zone you’re in because you would most likely be going to school during the day, this would narrow it down to where you might be located. It would also tell them that you’re still in school. Even though there is a wide variety of ages of people in school, with enough research, you can find someone’s age and many other things about them.
Some of the ways I work to build and maintain online relationships are trying not to put harmful contents or comments out for the public see. Since I like to put myself out on the internet publicly, I need to be mindful of what I post. Posting negative content publicly can be used against me which is never a good thing so I always need to look over what I post. Having a public account means that I get comments from anyone who sees it. Most of the time, my comments are positive and kind, but every now and then I get something not so nice, which isn’t a big deal to me but if I want to respond to that comment, I would do it in an affective way. For example, responding by proving them wrong, or questioning them. Most likely this will make them feel silly about themselves for saying that. Or sometimes I will just delete the comment.

What are your strengths and abilities and how are you using them?
One of my strengths are being able to become the character by using different tones of voice and doing actions that would make sense to the character to let the audience know what kind of character I am.
What could you improve on?
I think I could improve on keeping in character the whole time. For example, if I’m walking off stage, I would go off how my character would, as opposed to just walking off normally. I think I could also work on the smaller things like if I turn around, I turn towards the audience, or if I’m talking to someone, then I angle myself towards the audience so they can see my face while I’m talking.
This family of 4 needs a schedule and a plan for their dinner this week. As a group, we need to figure out who and what each person will make and when they will make it. We must think about their cooking skills, free time, cooking time, and when the whole family is at home. We also need to think about what meals will keep them full for any activities they have after.

Monday to Friday dinner schedule
Justification:
Monday- Teen 2 cooks Monday because that’s when they have the most free time while everyone else is more busy. They made grilled cheese sandwiches because it’s easy, and they don’t have much cooking experience.
Tuesday – Parent A is cooking because they have quite a bit of free time and a good cooking experience. The Vegetable Thai Pad is a filling meal and has good nutrients for things such as sports. For teen 2 for example, it can be used for tomorrow’s lunch or breakfast, as leftovers
Wednesday – Teen 1 is cooking Wednesday night because they wanted to help their parents make dinner, right before they needed to leave for an activity. They chose to do chicken noodle soup because it’s a filling , enjoyable meal and there can even be some left over.
Thursday – Parent B is cooking because they have 2 hours to make a meal before they go to their evening activity, and they also need to get a chance to cook for that week. They made black bean tacos because they parent B has an activity at 7:30 and this is one of the easiest and quickest meals available.
Friday- Teen 1 & 2 are cooking together because they have a lot of free time that day. They are making spaghetti because it is a quick and simple meal that they can both cook that the whole family can enjoy.
We all discussed what we would all do for this project; and since we all worked together for Friday, we talked about who should cook, and what they should cook. We shared information by filling out the table we were given for their schedule. After it was all filled out, we distributed the justification part of this assignment by giving each person a day that they worked on for the schedule, and working together on Friday.
We used technology to look at the instructions and the schedule of each family member to determine which and when each person should cook. We then used it to collaborate on the shared word document and share information. I also used technology to research the recipe that we had to come up with.
For this project, we split up the days of the week amongst us in pairs. My parter and I did Monday and Tuesday, while the other pair did Wednesday and Thursday. Once we were all finished those, we all worked together as a group to work on Friday. Once we had filled out the table for the week plan, we each filled out 1 day for the ‘justification’ portion of the assignment. We looked at it and gave feedback to make sure it was what we all wanted.
For this project, with a partner, we did Monday and Tuesday, and then we did Friday as a group. I came up with pretty much the whole plan for Monday and Tuesday, and my partner gave their opinion. For Friday, I came up with the meal that we had to come up with, and the rest was filled out by everyone else. For the “justification” part, I wrote Monday and Friday, and my partner wrote Tuesday, and the other pair in my group did Wednesday and Thursday. I also did proof reading for almost all of them. For our meal that we had to come up with, I researched about it and put the link for it. I was also the one who wrote the “problem” portion of this project.
Some things I think about before dividing tasks among group members include making sure everyone’s roll is equal, and making sure that one person isn’t doing more work than others, or the other way around. I need to know that everyone knows what they’re doing so they can do it all correctly.
I know the group is working together when I hear them talking to each other about our project and what they should do, and how to make it better; and them putting their information for the whole group to see, and so we can finish our project.
I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is that I completed my portion of work that I was given for this project and more to the best of my ability. I look at the criteria, and make sure I did everything that I needed to do, and think about if there is anything else I can do to go above the criteria.
I remain open minded as I explore viable options or alternative approaches, like when others tell me their ideas, I am open to their ideas, input and opinions, and with that I can either agree, or build off of their ideas to potentially make it better.
Collaboration is really helpful in understanding assignments because you get to hear everyone else’s thoughts and opinions. Most times I also feel like working in groups is easier because I like to have other people’s input. I also like giving people my opinions so we can build off of each others ideas. This connects to my core competency because it’s your job to communicate with others so you can do as well as you can with your project. A skill that I’ve gained from this is knowing how to combine my ideas with others and make connections and make better ideas. I will need to continue to grow in stepping out of my comfort zone and taking leadership in the group, instead of always being a follower.
Prompts
I appreciate feedback on my work and I prefer it comes in the form of constructive criticism; meaning that they tell me what was wrong and how I can fix it and how I can prevent it from going wrong ever again.
I make ethical choices such as trying to get all of my work done quickly and effectively in order to not be stressed out about having a lot of homework.
I know that working in groups can have both positive and negative consequences, including someone doing more work than the rest, not communicating, distractions. So I adjust my actions to trying to keep communication going and making sure we are doing equal amount of work with minimal distractions by reminding each other to stay on track.
I can respectfully advocate for my needs by raising my hand in class and waiting for a teacher to come and help me or I can physically find someone to ask.
When I am sad, angry or frustrated, taking a break and relaxing helps me be more productive or calm.
Some of the things I do to stay mentally and physically healthy include: working out, dancing, stretching and hanging out with friends.
By doing my work quietly, and not disturbing anyone in the classroom, I can make a positive difference to my peers.
One of my biggest goals is to keep myself organized. This meaning my school work, personal belongings, schedule, routines, etc. I chose this as my goal because I think it will be really helpful to keep everything in order, especially for my future. To achieve this goal, I will make sure to regularly clean my room, organize my backpack, and fill out my calendar for any upcoming events.
