Core Competencies Self Assessment – Titration Lab

CollaboratingI can apply constructive strategies to navigate misunderstandings and conflicts.

Final Result of Sadie and my titration lab.

I demonstrated communication and created strategies to avoid misunderstandings and conflicts during our titration lab through swapping roles and providing feedback. During my partner’s and my first titration trial, she was responsible for dropping the acid into the base, and I was responsible for mixing the solution. She quickly added to the solution, and seemed to slip, which caused too much base, ruining our trial. We both agreed that we should switch roles, as I had a steadier hand. Neither of us got offended or upset about the role swap, as we both communicated clearly and agreed that it would allow us to be more successful. After the switch, our second, third and fourth trials were complete, and our solutions were titrated correctly. Throughout the lab, Sadie and I communicated with each other, agreeing when to add acid and when to stop, making sure we were on the same page. I also feel that because Sadie and I are friends outside of class, we can take criticism and suggestions from each other during labs without getting hurt or offended, which makes us the perfect lab partners!

Curricular Reflection

During the Career and Life Education 10 class, I developed a good idea of what I would like to do with my career in the future. My goal to become a pediatric nurse requires lots of hard work and dedication. I have grown during this course because I am now aware of the requirements and necessary steps to apply to various post-secondary institutes. I think that will be very helpful in the future because as I complete my final years of school, I am aware of the courses I must take in order to reach my career goals. My initial plan for my career pathway has shifted drastically compared to the beginning of the course, which shows the importance of CLE.

Core Competency Reflection

I can gather and combine new evidence with what I already know to develop reasoned conclusions, judgments, or plans.

I chose this one because I am able to contain information that I have learned independently or what I have acquired from others. This allows me to research and find new information to build onto what I already know.

I can develop a body of creative work overtime in an area of interest or passion.

I chose this one because when I feel passionate about something, I look forward to working on it. This means I can create a very well thought and nicely presented project. This was shown when I created my presentation because I put a lot of work and time into it and had an overall successful outcome.

In familiar settings, I can interact with others and my surroundings respectfully.

When I am in a familiar setting, I am able to connect with my peers and build relationships, therefore getting better ideas from one another. This is valuable during projects because it is important to get different points of view on work.

In familiar settings, I communicate with peers and adults.

I chose this because when I am able to connect with peers and adults, they can help to guide me through any questions I may have. By asking questions I can do my project and meet all criteria.

PHE9 Reflection

My Artifact

PHE9 Reflection

During PE 9, I think that my strength was being an encouraging team mate. When we would play sports, I think that I would cheer on my team mates and celebrate their successes. Some examples would be when someone would score a point during soccer, basketball, field hockey etc. I would try to high five them or tell them ‘good job’.

A stretch that I had during PE was being enthusiastic about the unit we where doing. I found myself complaining lots and be unmotivated to play the games we where doing. I regret not being more enthusiastic because I feel like I would have had a more positive experience, because most of the time, the games ended up being fun.

Some things I can do to alter my stretch would to show up with a more positive attitude . I would like to do this because if I have a more positive attitude during activities, I will end up have a better and more fun experience.

Core Competency

I chose Field Hockey

I find it easy to be part of a group.

I can reflect on my thinking.

I can make positive change.

I recognize different points of view and can disagree respectfully. I chose this as my goal because I think that as my goal because I if I don’t agree with something, I am not very respectful. I would like to be more calm, cool and collected moving forward.
