critical and reflective thinking skills are good to develop chess strategy so you can be better rather than getting crushed almost constantly and I am refining these competencies by playing and learning new openings or defences.
SOCIAL STUDIES 9 REFLECTION
my artifact

curricular competency reflection
this was a speech I did for the French Revolution, I thought it was pretty good when I wrote it, but I always hate anything I’ve ever made aside from music afterwards. Anyways, I thought this speech if you can ca it that, was a good demonstration of me using evidence. Evidence to back up that I was using evidence to back up my speech was… you know, I used evidence from the text books and stuff to put together some sort of “resistance” against the monarchy as a broke person. Other than that, it’s pretty bad, I see why I got developing buttons all I could think of for this weird reflection that I’m writing so late.
core competency reflection
I think this project helped me grow my already expansively creative brain, by that I mean I used creative thinking, because that’s all I’m good at. Anyways, evidence, I had to be a little creative and reach deep into my smooth brain to use a little bit of old English and still make an actually understandable speech. That’s about it so I’m gonna drag this so it’s considered a paragraph. I’m not a good writer and you can tell. Alright, good enough, I’m sorry you had to read this.
desmos marbleslide: lines

core competency reflection
I can identify my strengths and limits, find internal motivation, and act on opportunities for self-growth as shown in what i decided to do above by pushing myself to go above what was being asked. I could have done this puzzle much easier than i did by simply using one line with the equation y=-0.4+6{x<6}. Instead i decided to make it a bit more complicated by putting another line to push myself to put another of depth to complete it, proving how i can find my internal motivation and act upon an opportunity for self growth.
Reviewing Unit 1 and 2: Integers & Fractions
Personally, the part of unit 1 I found the easiest was operations with integers because its really easy as long as you know the general principles of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing them, like 2 negatives makes a positive and a negative makes a negative, easy stuff when you understand the easy concepts. The one i had some trouble with was square roots, I HATE square routes, purely because my smooth brain cant multiply big numbers with no calculator, so any square root past 10 I don’t have memorized. I learn new material best when I don’t zone out for like 5 minutes and come come back to see an equation I couldn’t even begin to comprehend in front of me and end up panicking before realizing it’s really easy. “I persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals, learning and behavior” is accurate-ish, there’s a not-so-complex process to me facing challenging tasks, step 1: see problem, step 2: waste time, step 3: panic, step 4: see step 1, step 5: realize its super easy, step 6: do problem, step 7: call it a day.
My first year
my grade 9 year
This year I learned that I very much enjoy both metal and woodworking, I excelled in both of those classes greatly and got to make some stuff to give to my mom, I even earned a reward in metalworking for being the top student. This year I overcame the challenge of starting the school year as a not so good writer and managing to become a half decent writer with a whole semester and a half of practice, even though I still have trouble with topic sentences. I’m most proud of my almost perfect metal and woodworking grade, specifically metalworking because Mr. Peterson’s chill like that and I just really enjoyed the class. My stretches are probably getting higher than a proficient in any class that I don’t find enjoyable, like my Spanish class (no offence Sra. Toure) or my English class, it was a good class, but I still can’t write topic sentences.
A useful educational website
yes, the website I chose is very situation specific to one of my classes, but it still helped. Lichess is a very useful website that I use as a method of “Studying” for my chess 10 class. the many different features such as teaching the basics of pieces, teaching checks and checkmates, and many other things.
A useful educational video
I’m very aware it seems childish but I’ve always struggled with math, especially multiplication of large numbers/decimals. this video just so happens to give help with both of those because you can use the method used for large numbers for decimals as well.
A useful educational image

I chose this image because it was the best one that generally taught me to brainstorm really anything. I also couldn’t find any other images that made sense within this goofy context.
An inspirational quote
“Everything happens for a reason, and part of that beauty of life is that we’re not allowed to know those reasons for certain.”
– Aron RalstonI chose to share this quote because Aron Ralston is a big inspiration for me, I’ve probably watched 127 hours 200 times by now, its one of my favorite movies of all time. and an educational reason I chose this quote is when I’m just sitting in my bedroom stressing out about school, I would remind myself of this quote, that everything happens for a reason, and push through the best I could.

ADL persuasion and advertising project
My Advertisement

persuasion and advertising learning reflection
I used the testimonial technique of using a famous person to advertise. I did this by showing Kirk Hammett, the guitarist for Metallica playing a Gibson Les Paul, emphasizing the Gibson logo with the text “he plays one. why don’t you?” to persuade people into thinking that they need a Gibson guitar because Kirk Hammett plays one. i chose the colors and background by finding a picture of Kirk Hammett playing a Gibson guitar because the ai feature wasn’t working too well to generate a good picture of him. I came up with the magnifying glass to emphasize the Gibson logo from watching a video on my phone about how magnifying glass works and thought to myself “hey, i could use that for my ad to show the logo off”. people who aren’t in my class should know the advertising industry is mostly manipulatio- I mean, persuasion to get your target audience to buy the product.
Core Competency Reflection
I can get new ideas or build on or combine other people’s ideas to create new things within the constraints of a form, a problem, or materials. I believe this was shown by my ability to go off of the video about magnifying glasses that I saw and use it to show the logo of the company I was advertising. I generate new ideas as I pursue my interests. pursuing my interests is actually how i came up with the idea to advertise gibson guitars, procrastination just helped with the magnifying glass thing.
hunger games mutation project
My Creation

core competency reflection
i can form new ideas and create new things. i can also build off the ideas of others. i chose this one because during my and Elias’s work to create a use and weaknesses for our creature we just kind of bounced ideas off each other and settled for the few we deemed good enough. I can develop a body of creative work over time. i chose this one because over time of me and Elias bouncing ideas around, i managed to make a design for our creature, took some design elements from other things, took some from a general idea of what we wanted. i find it easy to be apart of a group. i chose this one because i do, especially for presentations, I’m not a good presenter, so its better that i have someone else to help with the actual presenting part so it’s not just me bumbling nervously in front of everyone. i demonstrate respectful, inclusive behavior. i chose this because if it were a three person project i would be willing to include anyone to work with me and Elias, i would just be incredibly nervous because im not good in social situations.
Spanish speaking country presentation reflection
Something that went well with my presentation would probably be my excessive information, of course i didn’t say all of said information, I got too lazy and nervous when actually presenting. something that could have went better is my actual presenting of topic, because I was increasingly nervous throughout the whole thing and decided at least a quarter of the information on some of my slides could have just been skipped over. i also probably should have written some kind of script so i wasn’t just reading off my slides, which is what i ended up doing. something I would do different would write a script so i wouldn’t be reading directly off my slides, like I was doing this time. the only curricular competency i can think i demonstrated would be creative thinking because of my… interesting choice of image for the title slide, as well as my absolutely beautiful yap session about Roberto Agustin Miguel Samuel Santiago Trujillo Veracruz.

core competency assessment
no artifact 🙁
communication
I can work with others to achieve a goal, an example of this being during the flammable lab when my partner and I switched who put the chemical in the fire and who recorded with little to no argument about the order. When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I try as hard as i physically can to not make it awkward, and i fail miserably.
thinking
i can tell the difference between facts and opinions, because like, who can’t, if someone told me the sun was a planet id think that was an opinion, or just pure stupidity. I remain open minded as I explore viable options or alternative approaches, like when I didn’t beat my friend Isaac (Simpson) to a pulp after he said Pluto deserved to be a planet.
personal/social
i can advocate for myself in the situation that I can make sure that i believe Pluto isn’t a planet and almost beat Isaac (Simpson) to a pulp. I make ethical choices such as not beating Isaac in order to keep myself from getting beat by Isaac.
digital footprint

in todays society, it’s very important that the youths are safe online, because whatever it is they tend to do while their brains rot away on their “iPads” tends to stay on the internet for very, very long periods of time, and that’s why we’ve been tasked with explaining what to and what not to do on the inter webs. A very significant effect of the digital landscape is education, colleges and universities have been using applicants online presence as a means of deciding if they fit well in the school, a really great tactic to keep out them online weirdo’s. Even employers looking for people to hire and wash dishes for them or something are starting to check for negative online presence, to keep out them online weirdos, like they should be. but, there still are positive sides to being chronically online, because if you’re not an as- *cough cough* terrible human being, employers or colleges and universities have better reason to accept you into their school or dishwashing job or whatever it is someone applies for these days. despite the few positive effects, there’s still a lot of negative ones, like the mental health issues that may come with being chronically online, like anxiety, or the feeling of isolation and loneliness, as well as the physical health issues, like eye strain from staring at a phone all day because you have your brightness all the way up or all the way down, and even worse, a terrible sleep schedule. these are all very real issues that people have from being chronically online, so instead of parents giving them a little slap on the wrist and telling them to “quit it” here’s some actual ways to monitor your kid online, you could engage them in conversation about their tech use, give them a screen time limit, if you have the time, go into these strange online experiences with them, for Christs sake, monitor your kids before they start rotting their brains even more.

personal/social competency reflection
By doing absolutely nothing but waste time or do homework online, I make a positive difference to my peers by not being stupid and barely posting anything on anywhere. it’s a really great idea to just not post on anything, like I do. Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence include going to sleep at a normal time, instead of 3:45 AM and getting 4 and a half hours of sleep. sleep is important, sleep at a scheduled time and your sleep schedule wont be as messed up as my friend Alejandro’s is. I make digital ethical choices such as actually using my brain and thinking about what i’m putting on the internet instead of just putting it there and regretting it later. It’s surprising how little people actually think before they do something, like post on the internet, its just dumb too.
