I appreciate feedback on… and prefer it comes in the form of…
I usually appreciate when I get feedback on tests and prefer when it comes in the form of going through the test. Tests are usually to quiz you on your knowledge about the subject you are learning about and whenever I get something wrong, I usually don’t know it. It helps me when the teacher goes through a test after it is marked because I can see what the right answers were. It’s even better if the teacher explains how to answer the question correctly, in detail, so I am able to get an even better understanding.
My goals align to some of my strengths and qualities because I am usually good at having a routine and I’m good at being able to remember that I have set goals and am also able to keep up with them. I make decisions based on my values by recognizing that I should or shouldn’t do something because of something that I value or something that is important to me. I have shown that I can manage and support my wellbeing by always knowing when I need help or if I need a break from something that is stressing me out. The strategy I will use to monitor and progress in my goals is have a calendar that I can write stuff down on and keep track on my workout days, homework due dates, my routine, etc. I have advanced myself and took ownership of my learning by improving on work when I get feedback and asking questions when I get something wrong or if I don’t understand something.
Egg drop challenge craftGolf tower challenge craft
Curricular Response
Building both of these crafts improved my understanding about the scientific method. To solve a problem you really have to observe and think about the problem. For example in the golf tower challenge, the problem was trying to get the tower to stand. In order for it to stand we had to make the base bigger and stronger. In the egg drop challenge, the problem was that we had to protect the egg so it didn’t crack. We then had to think and guess what would protect the egg, and then experiment with our guesses.
Core Competency Self Assessment and Creative Thinking
I am most proud of the golf tower challenge because we were able to complete it and get the tower standing. With the egg drop challenge our egg did not survive. Some strategies I used to overcome these challenges were brainstorming and working more with my partner. My partner and I brainstormed before we built so we had an idea on what to do and build. Working as a team helped us complete the build and coming up with more ideas. Based on my experience with the two labs, I feel like I have a better understanding of the scientific method considering I had no understanding of it before. I demonstrated that I can create new things when I am interested in it and take the time to plan it out. I demonstrated that I can build on the ideas of others when I already have other ideas so I can relate and compare both of our ideas. When trying new things, I expect setbacks and failure and use them to develop my ideas. An example of this from the Scientific Method labs would be when I experimented with my first golf tower design which didn’t work. I manipulated and changed my first tower design so it would stand better and hold the golf ball.

Internet safety is important as it can reduce your digital footprint. This is important because what we post is out there forever. It can change what people think about you online and affect future opportunities. In some situations, being cautious with how we use social media can help us protect ourselves and others from possible threats. There are many activities some may do online that are considered unsafe. For example, oversharing information. Such as sharing your location when posting, sharing account information, and allowing everyone to see your content. Another example could be being too public. Like, creating a public profile, accepting friend requests from people you don’t know, and talking to random people online. There are several steps everyone can take to stay safe online. Some of those steps include creating a private profile, only accepting friend requests from people you know, limiting who can view and comment, managing who can send you a message, restricting location settings, and changing privacy settings. Remember, we are not bound to post every single moment of our life.

Personal/Social Competency Reflection
I value doing well in school. This includes getting grades that I’m happy with. These values inform my decision about how much social media I use in a day. I could spend less time on my screen so I can focus more on studying and homework. In addition, less screen time allows me to have more time to do some of my own interests. All this contributes to a healthier mindset.
I know that my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences. These consequences can occur from something such as oversharing. Oversharing can attract a lot of attention and followers, which many may view as positive. It can also be a red flag for future employers which would be considered as a negative. I adjust my actions to not overshare but still post relatable content.
My online support network is helpful to me because it provides a safe online environment. I can access information I know to be true from the library and Centennial school websites. I can also post personal work on Edublog without the risk of getting judged. If I feel unsafe, I can reach out to others in the support network.
