Art 9 – Core Competencies

Core Competency “I can” statement Artifact Reflection
Personal & Social Personal Awareness and Responsibility I can recognize my strengths and take responsibility for using strategies to focus, manage stress, and accomplish my goals. Juxtaposed Plant Watercolour  Before doing the Juxtaposed Plant Watercolour drawing, I have to think about the specific draft since it was my first time to do watercolour drawing. Because I wasn’t in the class when the watercolour drawing practice was held, the drawing itself was a burden for me. So, I searched for some videos about watercolour and tried to catch up on the skills. I learned a few strategies from various videos and started to draw the first draft of my watercolour drawing. As the drawing should contain the juxtaposed image, it also took a lot of time to look up some references. I eventually decided to mix Arctic and Desert, I carefully placed each one. At first, I mixed water and paints and slowly layered out the background. My background theme was Arctic, so I did a lot of layering to emphasize the difference between glaciers. Cracks were layered more in order to clearly show where the boundary was. For cactus, I sometimes mixed the colours, or layered them out. It was a little bit stressful for me at first, but it was fun to see the drawing slowly accomplished. By engaging in this assignment, I was able to control my stress, use strategies in proper way, and successfully accomplish my goals.
