My Linear Equation Word Problem Assigment

Kylie Jenner bought diamond encrusted Birkin Bag three years ago. Today the bag is worth $480,000. She expects the bag to double in price over the next four years.

a. Write the appreciation equation in function notation for this scenario.

b. What would the value of the bag be after 5 years?

Self Assessment

Creative Thinking: My mathematical inspiration for this project came from another word problem created by another student. I came up with the idea of the bag cause I knew I wanted to do an appreciation problem, and something Im interested in is fashion. I chose the Birkin Bags  cause most fashion items actually depreciate, while because Birkin Bags are so exclusive they rise in value. I found this picture of a Birkin Bag on google images. However I couldn’t get a picture of Kylie’s due to licensing.

Critical Thinking: I used my own personal knowledge and did some light internet research. I made sure my equation worked because I reversed it and checked if it would play out the same if i did it the other way around. 

Core Competency Goals

I want to be more positive in myself and peers

By thinking more positive about how I value myself and others around me I believe my life can feel a lot less stressful. Some things I can do to achieve this goal are, self reflection and looking on the bright side.

I want to be more curious and ask questions

Sometimes I feel like I don’t ask the questions im wondering or forget to even think critically by asking questions. By thinking deeper when being given new concepts I can have a deeper understanding within the concept.

I want to work on my listening skills

I often find myself going off track in my mind while in the middle of a lecture. By making sure im actively listening throughout the whole class I can show, and have a better understanding of the content.

Curricular Competencies Reflection

In this course I really challenged my communication skills through public speaking, visual presentations, and writing. I always tried to make my paragraphs as perfect as can be, by planing my ideas and having a production plan before I started my final copy. In this assignment specifically I demonstrated connection skills to ads we’ve seen in the past, and comprehension from the Hunger Games book to show our true understanding.

Core Competencies Reflection

Creative Thinking: Others find my feedback useful because I provide a new solution rather than shutting others ideas down. One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is having all ideas infant of me to work around and expand on. An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is adding colours and new fonts to there advertising technique.

Tabletop Game Reflection

What is the purpose of a business plan?  Which section/question of your tabletop game business plan was the most difficult to complete/answer?  Why?

A business plan allows you to visually see all the aspects of your business, and help you make important business decisions. Figuring out how to split up where the profits go to. We wanted to create a successful business by keeping a good brand, and expanding our brand, while still putting money in our pockets.

What core competencies did you demonstrate with the Tabletop Game Assignment?

I demonstrated Thinking by getting new ideas in areas in which I have an interest and building my skills to make them work. I can think “outside the box” to get innovative ideas and persevere to develop them. I can think “outside the box” to get innovative ideas and persevere to develop them.

Making and Sharing Reflection

I make a step-by-step plan for production by talking with my group members, taking notes, and asking the teacher questions. I can identify tools, technologies, materials, and processes for production. This helps me because I can quickly know when and what to use it for. I work collaboratively and individually well, while I read through my recipe and plan in my head, then deliver my ideas to my group members.

Core Competency Reflection

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include asking questions to my teacher or students. As an active listener, I notice other questions my peers ask so I don’t need to ask the same one. I show others that I truly value their contributions by applauding and thanking them while also creating a team and inclusive environment. I need to work on collaborating better with people i dont know to prepare me for the world.

What are 3 interesting points that you learned from your assignment?

Some things I learned about are the four Ps of marketing and how much impact they have on someone’s company and brand. How pricing affects your whole brand image and overall customer status. And, how many little things in your store can improve your sales drastically.

I worked on collaborating as this was a group project and we had a group conscience. In my group, I encouraged others to voice their opinions and thoughts. I communicated by sharing my learning in an organized and detailed way.

In this project, I demonstrated communication in my group. I showed I can communicate for a purpose by staying on task with my group and redirection my partners when they fall off task. I listen and respond to others and consider their ideas instead of my own.
