Core Competency Reflection

In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by writing all of our ideas down and then revisiting them later for review and revision. By filtering out ideas it can allow for a quicker more effective project and provides an outline to follow through the making of the project.

I show that I value feedback from others in my group by asking them how I can fix my mistake or area of improvement and ensure they have my thanks. By accepting and applying feedback it shows appreciation and commitment to a good group mark.

In the future I hope to not let my emotions affect how I work and my fellow group members. I need to respectfully advocate for my needs by calming myself down before I come to class. Or let my group members know how I am feeling ahead of time.

English 12 Writing: Self- Reflection

Curricular Response

In this writing sample I practiced my pruning skills. My paragraph started with 100 more words! I am proud of that outcome as I haven’t had much experience with pruning. Other strengths included string evidence from the text and acceptable reasoning behind it. In future writes I hope work on my transitions and to vary my text. I use the same words often and the writing can seem repetitive.

Core Competency Self Reflection

I enjoy writing when I am able to organize my thoughts and ideas before hand. I find this useful as it gives me a guide to build off of while writing. I find it makes it easier to see a common theme on one piece of paper rather than an essay worth of unorganized writing. When writing the thing that takes the most time for me is relating evidence from the text. Although I usually seem to figure it out, I often take the most time in this part of writing. An enjoyable part of writing for me is when I am writing about something I am either interested in or want to learn about. It gives me extra drive to write! Outside of English class I journal however it is in an informal tone.

When I am feeling down about school, I remind myself that none of this actually matters! I always remember my performance at school does not define me as a person. Its evident that students remind themselves to remember their worth and they are so much more than a report card.

When I make mistakes, I don’t beat myself up. Instead I make note of my mistake and try a similar problem again later.

I can prevent some school-related stress by planning ahead. I always like to plan when I am going to do my assignments/studying ahead of time. Then I know when what is happening and I don’t need to mindlessly stress.

When I am sad, angry or frustrated about school, doing periodic resets helps me be more productive or calm. I usually like to take a quick 5-15 minute break in-between studying. Whether it’s consuming content so I don’t have to think for 10 minutes or standing up and activating my body again.

When receiving feedback from my teacher and classmates I communicated my understanding in a progressive way. I also communicated them to go deeper into their feedback and show me how I can make it better. When I gave feedback to my classmates, I made sure to communicate in a constructive and uplifting tone. I wanted to also point out things that they did an excellent job of.

Curricular Competencies Reflection

In this course I really challenged my communication skills through public speaking, visual presentations, and writing. I always tried to make my paragraphs as perfect as can be, by planing my ideas and having a production plan before I started my final copy. In this assignment specifically I demonstrated connection skills to ads we’ve seen in the past, and comprehension from the Hunger Games book to show our true understanding.

Core Competencies Reflection

Creative Thinking: Others find my feedback useful because I provide a new solution rather than shutting others ideas down. One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is having all ideas infant of me to work around and expand on. An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is adding colours and new fonts to there advertising technique.

Making and Sharing Reflection

I make a step-by-step plan for production by talking with my group members, taking notes, and asking the teacher questions. I can identify tools, technologies, materials, and processes for production. This helps me because I can quickly know when and what to use it for. I work collaboratively and individually well, while I read through my recipe and plan in my head, then deliver my ideas to my group members.

Core Competency Reflection

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include asking questions to my teacher or students. As an active listener, I notice other questions my peers ask so I don’t need to ask the same one. I show others that I truly value their contributions by applauding and thanking them while also creating a team and inclusive environment. I need to work on collaborating better with people i dont know to prepare me for the world.

What are 3 interesting points that you learned from your assignment?

Some things I learned about are the four Ps of marketing and how much impact they have on someone’s company and brand. How pricing affects your whole brand image and overall customer status. And, how many little things in your store can improve your sales drastically.

I worked on collaborating as this was a group project and we had a group conscience. In my group, I encouraged others to voice their opinions and thoughts. I communicated by sharing my learning in an organized and detailed way.
