Chocolate Crinkle Cookies
Making and Sharing Reflection
The chocolate crinkle cookies we made were by far my favourite recipe this semester because of their ooey, gooey chocolate goodness and overall unique texture of the cookie. Thinking critically, I would say the overall success of this recipe was substantial because of the efficient clean up, my ability to communicate and work with my fellow group members, the outcome of cookies, and experience following. The experience that made this recipe so special was that we gave out our cookies to staff members as a “thank you” for something they do for us. Along with the cookie, they received a handmade card that thanked them for all they’ve done and continue to do. I really enjoyed this aspect of making this recipe, thereby leading to part of the positive association. I enjoyed this recipe so much, I make it at home to share with my friends and family.
Core Competency Reflection
One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to… have a group discussion prior to cooking/baking. This is done as a precaution to make sure there aren’t any accidents are mistakes made in the kitchen. It is also done because if everyone is assigned a job, as a group, we are able to work faster and more efficiently through the production and cleanup of our recipe.
I know the group is working well together when I hear/ see… one another constantly communicating, asking questions for verification, and hearing my group mates ask what they can do when they’ve finished their assigned job/responsibility. I also know the group is working well together when I see everyone pitching in and working together during cleanup to ensure everybody is contributing to all aspects of the cooking experience as well as collecting and developing skills from it.
I show that I value feedback from others in my group by… asking questions and opinions throughout cooking/baking to make sure everyone is expressing their thoughts and we can all be a part of the process. I also show that I value my groups feedback with having an open mind, hearing everyone’s thoughts and opinions, and considering their ideas as opposed to just shutting them down immediately.
When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I… start by introducing myself and being very friendly to ensure everyone feels open and welcome throughout the duration we’re working together. I also like to ask them a lot of questions about themselves so I feel like I can be this way with them too while in the kitchen.
Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in… this is something I’d like to keep working on as I don’t see myself consistently contributing to class discussions and I feel it would positively reflect on my ability to understand recipes on an even more educated level. I plan to achieve this by asking questions when I have them, and responding to questions asked to the class when I know the answer to prove and showcase my understanding of the concepts of the recipe.
