Reflection
Competency: “I can gather, select, evaluate and synthesize information”
Throughout this semester I have tried many different strategies to help me retain information. Making notes from the pages we are given in class has been helpful when we have a test that requires knowing a lot of material. This can make studying more efficient since I have all the important information written out and I know what I need to review. If we have tests that has less challenging questions or short answers I will use flashcards. This helped me learn the inventers of important inventions during the industrial revolution and what important things happened to people involving the confederation. I have learned better ways to retain information for tests that are longer and challenging. I will bring these skills to social studies 10, and hopefully improve even more as that class goes on.
Competency: “I can explore and engage with materials and sources”
When we learn new information in class, I always try to review it outside of school. I use all the resources given to use to study and review. I make sure I memorize all the correct answers on practice tests we are given. If we have a kahoot, I will do it many times leading up to any test since I find it helpful for retaining the information. I make an effort to engage with materials we are given. When I thoroughly go through and use materials from this class, it always improves my performance on test. I will continue to do this during social studies 10.
This class has taught me a lot on the differences between middle school and high school. I now know how challenging it can be, but thankfully I have learned efficient ways to study. Something I would like to improve on before social studies 10 is my time management when I have another test or assignment for a different class. It seemed to be common that I would have social studies tests the same day as I had a test or assignment due for another class. This effected my test performance often and left me knowing I could have done better. If this happens again, I will follow a plan on how to put in equal effort for both classes.
