Core Competency Reflection

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I… Talk to Mrs.Chyzowski for 5 minutes and once I’m done talking I am re-focused and ready to continue my work. This also boosts my mood when talking to her because she is very nice and supportive and gives me lots of help during assignments. I developed this skill over this semester and I am continuing this skill.

By doing… my work and staying focused in the classroom, I make a positive difference to my peers. I lead by example in class and my peers saw me doing my work and followed me. I developed this skill throughout the semester and continued to build on this.

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in… Class discussions, I give and explain my ideas clearly to the class. In the future, I want to build on this and continue to grow and become more confident in speaking and sharing my ideas.

describe career-life goals, personal growth and initial planning for preferred career-life pathway.

After taking this course and completing this project I now know much more about my career path than I did before. My career life goal is to become a firefighter and have a good work/life balance, while being able to support myself financially. before taking this course and completing this project I did not know how to plan for the future or spend/save my money and be financially smart. completing this project has helped me plan ahead for the future and prepare myself for what is to come.

I can tell what is important to me and I can explain my values…. in my presentation I explained my values and what I think is important to me about firefighting. I explained in detail what I value most about my place of work and job.

I understand how my values shape my choices…. I chose this because I can understand and see how my values shape my choices and decisions. An example of this is my presentation, the presentation was about firefighteing and i included how my values shaped the way I look at the job.

I use strategies to help me find peace and I sustain a healthy and balanced lifestyle…. I chose this because we learnd about this early in the semester and I really understood and continued to learn about myself and how to keep a healthy life balance. I continue to work towards a good balance now and think about how I will maintain that in the future.

I participate in activities that support my well-being and take responsibility for my well-being…. I chose this because it ties into the competency I talked about before, after learning about how to keep my well-being i have practiced and engaged in activities that support this. Examples of this would be listening to music and going to the lacrosse box to help me centre myself and maintain a good balance.

I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way… I chose this statement to work on because I believe I can do a better job of sharing information during class. I plan on forcing myself to speak up during conversation, in hopes of getting better at this skill.

What was something about the author’s writing style that you liked or disliked when reading your book club book? I enjoyed the way the author’s writing was fluent throughout the book giving vivid character descriptions.

I worked cooperatively with other members of my group and was willing to help with any task. when we had group descussions and assignments i gave many ideas and theories to what might occur in the book. I aswell gave oppertunities to the members in my group to share their ideas and be in a judgement free space.

I was able to focus on what we needed to do throughout the process of our task and kept working even when I found something challenging. I think I could improve my skills on staying on task throughout the whole period. next time i will encourage myself and others to stay on task the whole time and not get side tracked with other conversations.

Squid dissection.

I can work with others to achieve a goal… during the squid dissection I worked with a partner to dissect and look at the squid. first we drew the squid and measured it my partner then cut the squid open and started examining it. while he did that I did the measurements for the squid. my partner and I both had jobs, working together to complete a common goal. next we located parts of the squid once we could see the insides and labeled them. during this lab I showed I can work in a group by helping my partner with the dissection and as well as doing my own job. I supported my partner and made it a safe environment for him to share all his ideas.

Life Saving Measures

  1. You don’t need to do the classic 30/2 method while giving CPR. performing chest compressions is the only thing you are required to do as a civilian as well as call 911.
  2. Performing CPR can only help someone and cannot kill them anymore. performing CPR can only help someone and cannot hurt anyone more, at this point it’s only helping them.
  3. You are protected by the good samaritan act if something were to go wrong. for example if you have drugs with you and call 911 because someone is overdosing, you will not be punished for the drugs you have.

these presentations have given me information I didn’t know before. the topics we covered were very helpful, if I was out with friends and see someone have an emergency I would be more comfortable helping. knowing what to do gives me more confidence if I had to help someone in a situation. learning about nolaxone was interesting, I didn’t know you could get a free kit from shoppers drug mart. that would be a useful thing to carry around incase of an emergency.

Critical and Reflective Thinking Competencies Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements. In a situation I believe I could analyze the evidence around and make a good decision. For example if someone went into cardiac arrest I believe I could help them. I would be able to see what’s happening and react to the situation quickly. This will help me in my future considering I want to become a firefighter.

Goals for semester 1

my support network includes the following people, my tutor, my mother and my friends. I will plan to reach out to them when I am struggling to keep up with my classes

I want to celebrate my accomplishments such as getting a 3.0 gpa or higher, so I will plan to use my time wisely and work hard inside the classroom.

The Reading Process

When I first started reading this book it was very challenging. The vocabulary was very new and I had a hard time understanding what they were saying. as the book progressed I started to understand the words the were using. Characters became more familiar to recognize and i could have a better understanding of the book.
