My goal was to make a really nice floating table project with nicely cut hockey sticks on top. I haven’t quite yet acheived this goal because I am not quite finished yet but i will be able to get it done in the next couple days and i”m happy about the way my project looks so far. Something I would have done differently is take more time top cut my pieces morre square so when I go to weld they are perfectly square right away which would have saved me time in the long run. If i werent succesful i would go back and fix what I did wrong if it could be fixed and I had the time to do it. I am very proud of hopw my dice and floating table look because they both look great in my opinion
My research topic was chemistry of instant ice packs which were created to help relieve pain fast and efficiently. The main chemistry concepts of this topic are , how instant ice packs are evidence of an endothermic reaction. which is obviously cold the products of these instant ice packs is water and ammonuim nitrate. A problem this instant ice packs at times can have are if they get left on your skin too long you can burn your skin. Another problem they have is when they are disposed they turn into plastic waste. A couple interesting facts of instant ice packs is they’ve been around longer than you might think. in 1959 instant ice packs were invented by Albert A Robbins. Another insteresting thing about instant ice packs are they they don’t have to be frozen just snapped to become cold which is what makes them so special.
Core competency reflection
I can use evidence to make judgements or decisions as demonstrated in this . I did this by claiming how instant ice packs are very special which they are. Because they don’t even have to be frozen to be put into use just snapped into play.
An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is, I showed whats in the which is water and ammonuim nitrate and how the chemical reaction works
I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work evidence of that is, I didn,t get to choose the topic of instant ice packs it was given to me. I had to learn about these which were totally new to me. and show my evidence of my learning in my infographic project.
My Topic I Chose is “ 60s-70s Muscle cars are the best…
2. Summarize the most Important interesting parts of you project
One of The Most Interesting parts of my project was my whole list of 1970 Chevelle engine options which was a pretty cool fact to see. Another one was all the cars I listed which can be in the hundreds of thousands even millions sometimes which was pretty crazy.another great part was my real life comparisons to 60-70s Muscle cars
3. Explain how you gathered information and expressed ideas in your project. Give an example of something you found
Mainly the ways I got information for my project was EX watching classic car restoration tv shows Which is where I get a lot of information I’ve learned over the years from watching these kinds of shows.
4. Explain your thinking in what ways is this significant and relevant to life in 2024
this is significant to life in 2024 Because it shows how much better cars and the world used to be compared to todays world
Core Competency Reflection
. I use evidence to make judgments or decisions as demonstrated in my.
In my inquiry Project I demonstrated this by using trusted sources. To gather information to add to my project
. I can examine and Evaluate to improve my own work evidence of this is
an example of this is my rough draft compared to my final draft. By reading it you can really see the difference in between both of them.
. I have valuable ideas to share about and do so by
I have a lot of valuable ideas in my inquiry project that I think a lot of people would find very interesting. I know that all the info in my inquiry project is very interesting to me and I would like to think others see that the same way I do
a) Something I didn’t know or consider before was what an AED is an how it works. I’ve seen them before at hockey rinks and didn’t realize how effective they are and that anyone can be trained to use them although they can be used without training as well. AED’s provide people with easy to follow audio and visual instructions. They can save someone’s life that are experiencing a heart attack or cardiac arrest.
b) A key takeaways from the practical CPR unit we did in class was that CPR is a first aid technique that can save someone’s life in an emergency. As well I learned that if someone is choking (holding their hands over their throat, etc) you perform abdominal thrusts on the person to dislodge the item they’re choking on.
c) This unit connects to the nutrition unit we learned previously because eating unhealthily, such as fast food, processed food and sugary drinks can lead to a higher chance of having a heart attack. This type of diet can lead to obesity which can be a leading cause of heart attacks. As well, this unhealthy diet can contribute to blocked arteries which can also lead to heart disease.
Core Competency Reflection
Communication:
In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend understanding by clearly communicating when I don’t understand something and asking for help when I need it. As well, I checked in with peers to clarify what I had missed when I was absent one day due to illness. I also participate regularly in class discussions and try to contribute positively to conversations.
Thinking:
One area of CPR that I would like to spend more time learning about is having a deeper understanding of the specific causes of a heart attack and cardiac arrest. Knowing this information will be valuable for my own health. Heart disease runs in my mom’s family on both sides so I want to be aware and make sure I do my best to avoid it.
Personal/Social:
On this unit I am proud that I accomplished learning how to perform CPR and passing the unit. When we began the unit I was uncertain that I would be able to do CPR because it made me feel a little queasy to be honest. I was thinking about the chance that something like this could happen to me as well. I am proud though that I learned a new skill where I might be able to save someone’s life with one day.
A Demsos graph is a graph that we can graph equations and plot data points. We used the Desmos.com website to make our graphs. This is my graph below of my equation.
Domain of My Graph:
The Domain of my graph is x is greater or = to zero
Ordered Pairs: (0,0), (1,1), (4,2), (9,3), (16,4)
Mapping Diagram:
What do the Domain and Range mean?
The domain of my graph represent the x axis values on my graph and the range represents the y axis values.
Function or Not?
My graph is a function because when I use the vertical line test, my graph intersects at the most one time which means it is a function. If a vertical line crosses over twice it’s a non-function.
Also in my mapping diagram if every input has exactly one arrow pointing away from it, it is a function. If one of the inputs has no arrow pointing away from it, it’s not a function.
Self Assessment
An example from the assignment where I represented the same mathematical idea in multiple ways was when I showed what my equation was, graphed my equation and used mapping notation to show the domain and range of my equation.
I used mathematical vocabulary when I explained what the domain, range and function of my graph were which are math terms.
I used formatting in my assignment when I chose to use clear font that was easy to read. As well I made my headings of each topic in bold font so it was clear to the reader. I also numbered my questions so it was easier for the reader to understand which questions I was answering.
crictical thinking is a competency I’d like to work on because I might need to design or develop things during the school year to do well in school this year
Creative thinking because in lots of subjects in school you need to be creative when you think
This year I learned how different everything about high school is from middle school, like the schedule with separate classes and separate rooms and work in general. In high school I have many different teachers as opposed to middle school and having one homeroom teacher for most classes. I really enjoyed Power Tech and Metal Shop because we got to do some things I enjoy doing and understand well such as taking apart an engine and working with tools and machines. A challenge I overcame this year was being able to sit for longer periods of time in a class. This was something I had difficulty with in the past but I feel has improved so much this year. A goal I have reached was getting a proficient grade in all of my classes in the first semester which included; LA, Socials, Power Tech, PE and Digital Literacy. I worked very hard to get this by asking for help when needed and doing all of my homework. A goal I haven’t reached yet is getting a proficient in Math and Science this term but we will see how that goes by the end of the year. This year, I realized I learn best when my teachers physically show me how to do an assignment one on one when it is something I am having difficulty with.
I chose this website because it is something I have personally used it to get better at Math. You can choose which topic you want to work on and which grade level. If you don’t understand the question you can work backwards and practice easier level questions.
A Useful Educational Video
I chose to share this video because Square Roots was a recent topic that we did in Math. The videos from the Khan Academy Channel are usually very clear and easy to understand.
A Useful Educational Image
I chose to share this image because it represents an important part of digital literacy. I made this picture myself that included words that represented things that can happen online when we don’t always know who is behind the screen. This is why a chose a ghost for my symbol.
An Inspirational Quote
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” – Wayne Gretzky
I chose this quote because it is true, if you don’t try and do something it will never get done. You’ll never get the practice you need to learn the new skill.
