My Grade 9 Year

This year I learned how different everything about high school is from middle school, like the schedule with separate classes and separate rooms and work in general. In high school I have many different teachers as opposed to middle school and having one homeroom teacher for most classes. I really enjoyed Power Tech and Metal Shop because we got to do some things I enjoy doing and understand well such as taking apart an engine and working with tools and machines. A challenge I overcame this year was being able to sit for longer periods of time in a class. This was something I had difficulty with in the past but I feel has improved so much this year. A goal I have reached was getting a proficient grade in all of my classes in the first semester which included; LA, Socials, Power Tech, PE and Digital Literacy. I worked very hard to get this by asking for help when needed and doing all of my homework. A goal I haven’t reached yet is getting a proficient in Math and Science this term but we will see how that goes by the end of the year. This year, I realized I learn best when my teachers physically show me how to do an assignment one on one when it is something I am having difficulty with.

A Useful Educational Website

https://ca.ixl.com/math/grade-9

I chose this website because it is something I have personally used it to get better at Math. You can choose which topic you want to work on and which grade level. If you don’t understand the question you can work backwards and practice easier level questions.

A Useful Educational Video

I chose to share this video because Square Roots was a recent topic that we did in Math. The videos from the Khan Academy Channel are usually very clear and easy to understand.

A Useful Educational Image

I chose to share this image because it represents an important part of digital literacy. I made this picture myself that included words that represented things that can happen online when we don’t always know who is behind the screen. This is why a chose a ghost for my symbol.

An Inspirational Quote

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” – Wayne Gretzky

I chose this quote because it is true, if you don’t try and do something it will never get done. You’ll never get the practice you need to learn the new skill.

ADL Social Studies- Ethical Judgement

Reflection Questions- Is it justified to deny rights of people in order to industrialize?

A) How did the use of AI assist you in developing this project

It helped us by finding the information we wanted quicker then just searching for it like usual.

B) How did you ensure that the work you created was still your own, rather then just a product of the AI

The work I did was all my own because I cited all the pieces of information I found from websites and the rest of it was stuff I remembered from learning about the Industrial revolution in class.

C) Did you agree with the position you had to argue? Why or why not?

I agreed my position to an extent because I’m not saying denying human rights is right but at times it had to be done.

Core Competency Reflection

  1. One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to… talk to my partner and collaborate ideas. Even though we are doing this apart for most of the assignment so we can make sure we each get a good grade.
  2. I seek, develop and weigh options as demonstrated by… writing and changing stuff constantly and thinking about what would be the best thing to say in my information that I think is good.

Power Play: The Movie

My Movie

“Plot, Character, Setting and Mood”

I chose the Avatar I did for Coach Connors because of the physical description that they gave in the book and how I imagined him by that description. They said he was more fat than muscular and I imagined him looking like an NHL Coach that I know of named Jay Woodcroft. The book said he wore a suit so this is what I chose for him to wear. It also said Coach Connors looked friendly so I chose a face that looked friendly to me.

I chose the avatar for Cody because I know he is a 15 year old. He’s a teenager and plays rep hockey so I chose a character that I felt represented this. The book doesn’t give a specific description for his appearance so I chose clothes that would represent a teenager.

I chose the plot points I used because I felt that they represented that part of the book the best. They gave a good description of each of the parts of the book I included such as climax, rising action and denouement.

I was able to figure out the setting of the story which was the hockey rink because that is the place that Cody spends the majority of his time. It’s the place he loves the most. It’s the main place where he develops relationships with his new team and his coach.

I chose the song I did for the background because it represents a mid tone and I feel like it has ups and downs. It’s a basic and simple song but I feel like it shows a courageous part to the story where Cody comes forward about what is happening to him. There a couple parts of the story where they are playing a hockey game as well and I feel my choice of music suits this.

“Core Competency Reflection”

Some skills I developed to make my creative ideas better are learning how to put pictures in that I found from stock images on power point. I also learned how to use the designer feature and make my project look better.

I respectfully advocate for my needs by focusing and asking for help when I needed it. I went to the tech center during Flex and got some help with my project.

I can contribute and work with criteria to improve my own work by reading the criteria properly and doing everything that is asked. I checked things off as I went along and asked questions when I didn’t understand.
