Digital Footprint – Keeping Myself Safe

Sharing Knowledge

  1. Why internet safety and being positive is important: I think internet safety is important so you don’t have your accounts hacked by hackers online. It’s good to have strong passwords and not give out a lot of personal information. You shouldn’t start talking to strangers you don’t know as it is unsafe. Mostly, don’t post bad things or send bad texts because they never will disappear. Once things are on the internet, it’s hard to get rid of because it can be screen-shot or saved by others.
  2. Examples of unsafe and negative activities: Some examples of unsafe and negative activities are cyberbullying somebody online which is a horrible thing to do. Also, giving out personal information as I already said because there are online child predators that are targeting kids. Falling for scams is something that people need to try and avoid because some scams can be very realistic so whenever you buy something online, take some time to make sure it isn’t a scam. The worst thing of all is making a terrible mistake online because it can always come back to haunt you later in life when you think it is gone.
  3. Descriptions of the steps everyone can take to stay safe: Remember to keep your systems updated so security threats are patched up. Remember to only use websites that feel and look reliable and that have a number of good reviews. Double check information you see online because it might not be true. Backup your data so if it is hacked it can still be recovered.

Competency Reflection

I know my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences. It can affect me positively because it can allow me to talk to friends online and share photos that are important to me with them. It can affect people negatively because it can make them feel depressed because they may feel like they don’t have as many friends as other people or as many likes as they hoped on a picture or post.

My values around sports determine how much time I am able to spend on my personal devices. I love playing many sports and not spending tons of time on my devices because staying active in sports is important to me.
