Social Studies 10 Core Competency Self-Assessment

Creative Thinking

For my project, I used creative thinking to design a rotting table as a memorial, symbolizing how Jewish families were torn from their homes during the Holocaust. The idea of using real wood that rots over time captures the emotional decay of their lives and homes. A strength of my project is how the table physically represents the disruption and trauma these families faced. However, I could improve by making the memorial more interactive, perhaps including plaques or a way for visitors to reflect on the history behind it. This would make the memorial more engaging and help people connect to the message even further.

Socials 10 Midterm Reflection

Collaboration Prompts:

Some things I think about before dividing tasks among group members include how much work each slide will take to do and how much work each person can take on. If I feel like the work can’t be evenly split between the group members, I usually take on more work than the rest so we can finish on time and get a good mark. One strength that I have is being able to create a long presentation, but a weakness I have is getting each group member to contribute more to the project.

My strongest curricular competency is inquiry. I generally tend to research more on the subject than needed to be able to write or create a better presentation or assignment. For example, in the slideshow provided, I researched all the major points on the Battle of Verdun and watched multiple YouTube videos explaining the battle to understand it completely. My weakest curricular competency is most likely cause and consequence because I can’t always think of multiple causes for one consequence, making it my weakest one.
