Persuasion and Advertisement Techniques
Persuasion and Advertisement Unit Reflection
It is important to remember that you do not benefit from advertisements. Advertisements are not created to help you, they are designed to promote the company’s product and get money for themselves. Ad’s will always use persuasion techniques to get your attention and desire. It is never that good.
Ethical persuasion is effective because people are often trusting individuals. When a doctor tells me to eat more protein I have no reason to distrust them. They do have several years of experience and learning in the field, don’t they?
Bandwagon works because people want to be cool like everybody else. When everyone I know wears their hair in a ponytail I don’t want to be the only one left out. Bandwagon uses people’s need to fit in, to their advantage. They imply that without this product you are the outcast, missing out. No one wants to be the one person that does not fit in.
Core Competency Reflection
This is how I selected images and words to create impact for my planned audience:
I used the words “Whenever, Wherever, Forever” because I know repetition and terms like “forever” are intriguing. If a rich person in the Capitol of the Hunger Games saw these words they would be curious.
I used to think_______about advertisement and now I know______because …
I used to think that advertisements were created to show people innovative products that could actually benefit me. I now know that this is not the case at all. I know this because I understand the different types of persuasion and can see when terms and visuals are used simply to intrigue me. The product is not truly a “great deal” they use these terms to convince me it is.
One strategy or activity that stimulated my imagination on this project was…
I took advantage of the visuals in PowerPoint and Canva. I enjoy designing things using colour schemes and I stimulated my imagination by using a colour pallette I like and creating visual patterns to make my presentation interesting to see.
