Core Competency Reflection
“I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself.” I chose this one because after completing the poster board and putting everything together I became proud of the work I completed. Proud of my paragraphs, information and just the design of the board in general. I showcase a sense of accomplishment and joy the moment I walked into class with a smile on my face, proud of what I created.
“I recognize my emotions and use strategies to manage them.” I chose this because when working on the project I started experiencing stress and anxiety, feeling this project was to much work and thinking I wouldn’t finish it in time. Eventually I started taking deep breaths and closing my eyes for a few minutes to calm down. If that didn’t work I took a ten minute break to refresh my head calming those negative emotions.
“I can develop a body of creative work over time” I chose this because over the week I put together a beautiful project with all kinds of information. I printed pictures and paragraphs and cut them out using a different type of scissors, before gluing them on colored paper and sticking it to the board. I also fixed my artifact, by making it look more like Bolivian traditional topper.
“I can tell the difference between facts and opinions” I chose this because when researching information and going on websites a lot of people posted opinions rather than facts. This projected helped me further identify the difference between facts and opinions, having being careful to be able to pick out the facts rather than the opinions.
“I can persevere over time to develop my ideas, and I expect setbacks and failure, but use that to develop my ideas.” My goal is to be able to develop my ideas over time and expect setbacks and failure. I always focus on the positive side of my work, making sure everything is prefect, thinking nothing will go wrong, when in reality there would be set backs. As for developing my ideas, it takes longer than expected, and it doesn’t really change anything, meaning I can’t develop most ideas further than what I’ve already got. I hope to achieve my goal by putting more time towards the planning period and brainstorm period of future projects to be able to further develop my ideas, as well as to teach myself that setbacks and failure will come, no matter what I do and that nothing is perfect and I should respect that.
