Textiles Arts and Crafts Core Competency Self-Assessment

My Artifact

Critical Thinking Core Competency:

I used the critical thinking core competency to help problem solve how to do different stitches. Since this was the first time I hand sewed I am very proud of how this project turned out. I took time to think out the details of this project and chose the appropriate stitch for the design.

My Artifact: Halloween Birthday Card

Creative Thinking Core Competency

Prompt: I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others.

I used creative thinking when making this card by making sure I took my time coming up with my idea. I made this card for my sisters birthday. I came up with the idea and thought about how her birthday is near Halloween so I made it Halloween themed. I used creative thinking to ideate my design and thought about what materials I needed for the design to be successful. This is my favourite card since I came up with the design on my own and combined two holiday themes to one. I like how cute the ghost came out as well as the pumpkins. I used coloured paper to create clean shapes and solid colours. I also talked to my groupmates about other things I could add and we came up with adding spider webs. So I added that at the end to give it some more detail.

Facing a Challenge

The first time I tried this problem I made a mistake with isolating the variable. I needed to get the radius (r) on its own. The first time I attempted this problem I made a mistake by subtracting the 6 before I combined it with 1/3 since they are like terms. This gave me 12=1/3r^2 which is incorrect. The correct way to solve the solution is to combine 6 and 1/3 to get 2. Then after it is simple because you have 18=2r^2 so you just divide both sides by 2 and square it. This gave me the correct solution of r=3. The problem solving resources I used was I checked the back of the workbook since it gave a solution. I used that solution to help me identify my error and correct it. The concepts I used for this problem was isolating a variable, combining like-terms and radicals. Next time I encounter a challenging problem I will ask my group members or my teacher for help.

Spanish Dialogue Self-Reflection

This was the first spanish 11 dialogue I’ve done and it went pretty well. My group and I did well to add lots of emotion and gestures to our script. We had some grammar mistakes in our script like forgetting accents or mis-conjugating the words. But, I think we used our creative thinking skills with our story line and added funny and interesting elements. We communicated with each other what we wanted to say, how we wanted to act it out. We bounced ideas off each other and developed a fun script to present to the class. Making sure it included all the elements that needed to be in there.

Critical Thinking

Titration Lab

This is my Titration Lab, I used critical thinking a lot during this lab because it had lots of questions and I have never done a Titration before. I learned about lots of equipment I have never used before and got to try it out. There was critical thinking involved while preforming the lab since you had to stay on task and make sure that you do everything correctly so it is accurate. Also while filling out the lab analysis and conclusion since you have to critically reflect on what you did in the lab, how you did it and why you did it. I liked this lab because it was challenging to make sure you got a pale pink that lasted 30 seconds and didn’t put too much base in or else it would go a bright pink.

English First Peoples 11 Reflection

My Artifact:

This is my Character Infographic I made for the short story of A Mountain Legend about Jason the main character.

Curricular Competencies Reflection

Create and Communicate: What did you learn during this assignment or task and how did you grow in your writing, speaking, or representing skills?

Through this assignment I learned that characters actions in a story subconsciously tells us more about them. It isn’t always the author saying ‘he had long black hair’ it could be the character getting frustrated their hair is in their face and they need to tie it up. I grew in my representing skills since doing an infographic means adding visuals while finding ways to represent certain things. An example would be trying to apply a nature theme to the whole infographic.

Core Competencies Reflection

Thinking

One of the major core competencies I used during this assignment was thinking. I used a mix of creative and critical thinking for completing this project. I used critical thinking while finding examples of Jason’s attributes through the text and making connections to characteristics. I used my creative thinking to format and design my infographic to make it look appealing and connect it to the text. I needed to use both styles of thinking to be successful with this assignment. I hope to continue to develop and use my thinking skills in future assignments.

This is Romeo’s Instagram profile, I used a lot of creative and critical thinking to complete this project. I did this by using the competency of thinking. I used creative thinking to explore new ideas of how would Romeo use Instagram and what he would post. Thinking of different things to post on his story and use as highlights. I used Critical thinking to refer back to the original story and make sure all the events line up in the correct order. I also used my creative thinking skills to make up the small details of the post like the location, captions, likes and comments.
