ADL – Collaboration and Solutions for Financial Literacy

Data and Solutions

This was my group’s original calculations (Sam’s hand-writing).

Total Loss (Negative Stock Simulation)

Total Profit

My group and I showed are calculations and answer through Excel.

Justification:

The strength of our solution is that we can play off our down-payment. Compared to our weakness of using only stocks, which can be incredibly inconsistent. You have the potential risk of only making a little over $12.5k over the next 3 years, if the stocks take a negative turn – and this will not payoff the down payment. Also, using stocks would fit my risk tolerance, as I have a medium risk tolerance, and I have learned how to handle financial stocks. I also have more knowledge on stocks compared to any GIC’s.

Collaboration:

I found I was helpful working with my group, as most of us understood the concept of this project fairly well. My contribution to my group was shown by me finding solutions to the questions, as my groupmates’ work was finding out the crucial numbers to put in the equations. My group decided to use Sam’s solution, as I worked together with him and knew where his numbers and calculations were coming from – resulting in a correct answer. I would rate my ability to collaborate with others in my group a three. I chose this number, because we were not all collaborating with each other at times.

Core Competency Reflection:

Collaboration: I was able to show my collaboration skills by having conversation with my group on which solution was best to payoff the down payment. Our group was able to come up with a few ideas. The end result was using stocks, as our group agreed on.

Communicating: My communication skills were demonstrated in a beneficial way. I pointed out a correction in our group’s calculations. This made a significant impact, as we finally discovered the solution to this problem with my correction.

Responsibility: I displayed my responsibility as I was able to complete this assignment on time – just like my excel graphs and charts. I also showed my responsibility by admitting my mistakes when we were calculating the answers for this assignment.

Collaboration: Another way I collaborated with my group was when they were proposing ideas. I was giving them the platform to speak and was thoroughly listening to their thoughts, answers and corrections.
