Our success with the golf ball tower and egg drop was very different. For our egg drop we did not use a proper base, and that hindered our height. Compared with the egg drop, we had a strong base which got us second place. This shows how we got a better understanding of the scientific method, as we were able to create a stronger base for our egg drop project. Once we noticed our weak base for the golf ball tower challenge, we tested our base for the egg drop challenge numerous times – trying to perfect it.

Core Competency Self Assessment and Creative Thinking

I am more proud of my team’s egg drop challenge, as we significantly improved compared to the golf ball tower. My reasoning is that we were more aware of our lack of a strong base and improved it. It was a huge factor in our egg drop challenge success. The strategies we used to overcome our problems was to stay calm and think hard about how to solve our dilemma. When we stayed calm we were able to maintain our frustrations and work well with each other, and thinking about our problems we were able to identify the problem and fix it. Our experience with understanding the scientific method went well, as my hypotheses were always true. I also was able to fully understand the variables in a hypothesis, and how they can change easily. I demonstrated that I can learn new things when I can visually view or create the “new thing”. I demonstrated that I can build off the ideas of others when I critically think. My demonstration can be shown with my addition of the bottom part of the container. When trying new things, I expect setbacks and failure and use them to develop my ideas. An example of this from the Scientific Method labs would be with the base of of my team’s golf ball tower. I was able to profit of my mistakes and create a better more durable base with my team’s egg drop challenge container.
