Reflecting on My First Year

My Grade 9 Year

I have learned about past revolutions in social studies, new forms of writing in English, and exponents and integers in math. I am most proud of my end result of each class as I learned many new things as well as ending with a good grade. This year I enjoyed joining many sports teams such as the school football team, the school soccer team, and the school basketball team. One goal I accomplished this year was to achieve a starting position at the minimum of one game for each school sport team I joined. One thing I look to improve is to go to more educational classes during flex blocks rather than going to the gym and the weight room.

My Favorite Website

Spotify– I chose Spotify as my favorite website as it was one of the key things that kept me focused on my work without being distracted. It also helped me outside of school as it helped me warm up before a sports game and just for entertainment when I was bored.

My Favorite Video

This was my favorite video as it helped me the most preparing for Spanish tests about numbers. It taught me how to spell, pronounce, and count numbers up to 39.

My Favorite Image

This is my favorite image as it represented my time with the Grade 9 basketball team and how much of a team we were. I feel this image described the friendships I had with teammates and other peers that were involved with sports.

My Favorite Quote

“Just because you are in the storm, doesn’t mean the game is over.” I chose this quote as I feel it means a lot as it is saying if your life is going bad, that doesn’t mean it’s over. It references the game “Fortnite” as when you are in the storm, it does some damage, but that doesn’t mean you can’t win still.

Reflection Questions- Is violence justified during a protest?

A) I used AI by collecting websites and information from Perplexity, and putting the information into my words and collecting ideas to write down.

B) I got ideas from AI, and put them into my words to write down cons against violence. It gave me reasons, and I added to that and wrote it down.

C) Yes, I liked the position I had, as there were more cons than pros, and majority of people agree with no violence. I feel I had the advantage in this project as mine was easier to get information for.

Competency Reflection

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in- when I am giving suggestions what to talk about during the podcast, and helping my partner find information about his argument.

Persuasion Project Unit Reflection

Why is it important to remember who benefits from the advertisement when you view an advertisement?

It is important as it wont be as useful if you don’t apply to the category which is either an age group, or a hobby.

Choose one form of persuasion and explain why it is effective in persuading you/an audience: logical, ethical, emotional

Ethical- I think logical is effective as when you see someone well known, you will automatically think they use that product and you will buy it.

Choose an advertising technique and explain why it is effective in selling a product.

Testimonial-Michael Jordan is in it, which people see and makes them get attracted to the add. When you see something stand out, either a colour or person, your attention goes straight to it.

Core Competency Reflection

  • One of the ways I ensured my group was clear on what we were doing was to ask questions and make sure we know what we are doing at all times. Check with a teacher before starting.
  • I showed others that I truly valued their contributions by asking if i can help with anything. Also, to make sure that we are up to date meaning our advertisement is on time and we are not behind.
  • When there was disagreement within the group, I found it helpful to talk about why one idea can be agreed on. I gave information why my idea would be better, and we ended up agreeing on it.
